Regardless of your feelings or your purpose, I would like to thank you, Ed, for
reading Deseret News. If any Christian-based principles entered your mind, then
the Savior has planted a seed. Let's hope it is nurtured and that it grows

The news showed coverage of LDS missionaries and members dressed distinctly in
yellow t-shirts (men, women, old and young) preparing sandbags with non-LDS
volunteers, which were dressed distinctly in clothing, some of which were
dressed in athletic shorts. They all worked together for good with their
differences (in clothing and beliefs). Shouldn't we all do that?

My parents had the awesome priviledge of serving in Nauvoo a couple of years ago
and my family was able to visit at the same time. I am so grateful of DN of
reporting what is going on! This is the only site I've found that is
reporting what is happening to the area. And because of this, I've been
able to report back to my parents what is happening in the area. Keep up the
good work DN!

The story is about people, working together for the sake of people, history, and
their land. It is no more complicated than that. Just witness the beauty of
good souls, doing good.

I live thousands of miles from Nauvoo, yet I do have ancestors who lived there.
I turned to this site to see what the flood was doing there and of course I
assumed the community would do all it could to preserve the historical,
residential and commercial resources of the community. I imagine everyone there
works together regardless of faith. It is only logical that the LDS church
would utilize all its resources in the region to assist in protection of both
LDS and non-LDS buildings. I live in an area where the Mennonite faith is very
prominent. They too do so much good in helping in welfare services. If my
community was flooding I would have great confidence that they would do the same
as the LDS in Nauvoo. And I would have no problem standing beside them filling
sand bags. I would also have no problem with the news coverage focusing on what
the Mennonite church was doing and would not feel bad that they did not mention
me or my LDS, Catholic, Jewish, and athiest friends that were also doing all we
could to deal with an immense tragedy.

My brothers always try to discourage me from posting too much on boards by
saying "Don't feed the trolls".
Troll has a specific meaning in internet speak. Someone who goes around, finds an article, and then shoots off an attack on it is clearly a troll. This is even more evident if you read the discussion from the previous day on people helping against the floods in Iowa. For someone to wrest a passage from Matthew into an attack on the report on people helping save lives in Iowa, suggesting that the people doing this were doing it just for publicity and not to help someone is inconsiderate and mean at best.

Oh my! how many nit-picking bantering onlookers we see in the face of crisis !
Just stop it ! and be glad, as I was when I googled Nauvoo for flood watch
status, to see the Deseret News report that they are getting the help they need.
Here's a challenge to those who are unhappy with the content of these news
articles in Deseret News: hop on the first plane to IL, trek on down to Nauvoo,
roll up your sleeves and get to work! Then re-post your experience and
we'll do our best to see that you get your name in the paper! In the
meantime, or otherwise, whatever the case may be - see if we can all care and do
more for those in need than nitpicking the content of the reports. And if you
are fortunate enough to be high and dry under fair skies be glad for a good day.

Actually, I don't believe there are many, if any, Nazareens still living in Nauvoo, but like all local news organizations, the Deseret News typically reports news that is interesting or has ties to the local population.

I'm with you. I hope and pray that things go well in Nauvoo.
This has to be another Des-News' very funny blog. I have a hard time reading the comments because I laugh so hard. my husband thinks I have lost my mind with so much laughter. Sometime when I go to bed a night I laugh myself to sleep after reading some of the insane comments. Some of the hateful comments I find funny as well. people are funny.

I have been worried about the status of Nauvoo with all the flooding. I am so
glad to know that it is safe so far. My prayers will be with them, as well as
all people affected by the floods.

The LDS church is so blessed to have such a spiritual and humble group of people
helping out there in Nauvoo to keep the water out. Hopefully their hard work
will bless the Nauvoo area and all its victims.

I have read some pretty derogatory comments about trolls here. Just wanted you to know that we have feelings also. We laugh and cry, just like you do. We feel pain and joy, just like you do, and we wish a better life for our little trollsters, just like you do.

We have been wondering about Nauvoo and were pleased to see this article and the
information supplied. Thanks you. I guess everyone wants to be congratulated on
