About Time

action is taken on this issue and we need to see who opposes it or wants to sidebar the discussion for latter. If vouchers got the public to do a referendum, this issue should cause voters to make law themselves via the voting process if the Senators and legislators don't want to do this. Return public service to public serve. Whether they are LDS or not, perhaps the story of King Benjamin who labored with his own hands to support himself and not burden his people is a good analogy for our own representatives and senators to remember. Give up the extra campaign money and either give it to your party or let it go to the rainy day fund.

Good Luck!!

Until it is 100% illegal to accept any kind of gift - the system you have in place will be a corrupt one.

Cynical

Ethics? Yes, this is a good thing but they talk out of both sides of their mouth. Redefining marriage, not regulating pornography on the internet and other liberal views show a complete lack of ethics.

Ethics

Same differance as liars and cheats
We have people that are not doing the peoples business
Quite clear this story was a mouth full
We have people that keep getting elected because
R is on the front of their name
You have the same creeps with no ethics making stupid laws
My point
They have taken over and you do not count

My heart is with the people
Not the City, County or the State

No I am not running
This is the questions you need to ask people that want elected
First quwestion is Why?
Those that are in office in Utah has lost sence of direction
They should be in the jails they build

hahahahahaha

Ya, right! What a crock! It is impossible to regulate "pocket lining" for the legislatures. Evidence shows this is the reason they are in politics.

Dixie Dan

Republicans need ethics? I thought the Republican values were in line with LDS standards. Isn't that the reason so many people in Utah are Republicans?

Go Mascaro!

Go Mascaro Go! Give us back our government!

RightLeftUpDown

Anyone who uses "Liberal" or "Conservative" as a derogatory term should not be allowed to Vote.

There should be ZERO tolerance for this junk. A gift from a lobbyist is a BRIBE. Get rid of them, get rid of (most) the corruption.

uncannygunman

I think there's a glitch in the D-News computer system--it keeps serving up this same article year after year after year!

Wuh?!?

Remember when GWB was going to bring ethics back to the White House?..... Bwahhh... That was funny.

Enough Said

When Washington gave his final farewell speech he commented that when party wins the people loose. Abraham Lincoln commented that when the interests of the party are set aside the people win.

Too bad Utah legislators have not figured this out yet. That also goes for federal politicians.

GOP/DEM

I would be surprised if this bill see's the light of day. Or it will get so watered down it won't mean anything. A one party system like we have in Utah is deplorable! We need more democrates in office to monitor the republicans. I had always thought/believed the GOP was for lower taxes, but after reading where Utah is in the top 25% for taxing it's residents we need to clean house and get some true members voted in that believe tax money is all ours not just theirs.

Want to get the positive support of the 'Conservative' money-grubbers when such a bill is in committee/up for a full vote? Those pursuing the legislation need to make the process fully transparent, even doing everything possible to not allow for parliamentary maneuvers that push it into closed meetings.

Insist that no closed/behind-the-door meetings are allowed but that the process is out in the open and fully reported on, done in the spirit of the bill itself to outlaw taking any gifts or perks from lobbyists...

In fact, Utah needs to lead of the rest of the nation and the Federal government itself, in passing a law that requires all lobbying efforts to be in a conference room with all legislators from both political parties present and they present their case in a panel forum, where both sides can openly hear, review and comment on the desires and/or issues being presented by lobbyist.

The law should bar lobbyists from accessing law makers personally at anytime 24/7! And no legislator or government employee shall be allowed to work for, consult with, have interest in, or receive any value whatsoever from any company/interest lobbyists are affiliated with for 4 years after leaving office-or-state-employment.

Well said!

Dixie Dan, you're spot on. Further evidence that the people of Utah are nothing but cattle. Vote the party no matter what? Yeah, right!

MY SLC

Ethics reforms? Legislature? like this is going to happen in Utah? Yeah right.

Go Becky!

There is one Republican canidate for the Leg 20, and she is FOR ethics! The powers in place do not want her because they know she wants the change, wants ethics in place, unlike the current power holders. Go Becky Edwards!
