Taking over the FLDS trust and prosecuting every borderline case (16-17 year olds) of underage marriages is not the way to build trust.

To the contrary. If the government can't be trusted to protect others it can' be trusted to protect you. Prosecuting all protects all.

I wonder if Merril Jessop is going to be in on these talks? Or is he still in hiding?

I recently drove through Colorado City and Hilldale on a return trip from the Grand Canyon. Everywhere were "No Tresspassing" and "Keep Out" signs. Electronic gates spanned the roads into the compounds of larger homes. For me, it is a sad commentary on how the government is currently treating these people when they have to live their lives in fear and be wary of any and all intruders. The faces of the children I saw were not joyous or carefree, but showed suspicion and fear of me, a stranger. If they have agreed to stop underage marriage, I say we back off and let them live in peace. The government ought to be more interested in underage pregnancies in poor and blighted ares than in a thriving and viable community of the FLDS.

Isn't polygamy against the law?

Isn't polygamy against the law I ask you?

How is it we turn and look the other way?

If these people are law abiding citizens as they claim. How can they still practice polygamy?

I know those who were raised in the polygamist relm. One Jessop I know... you couldn't find a more hard working carpenter. He told me he left the life, but he has sisters there still.

So we either legalize it or.... stop it.

What is this?

This is truly sad. Their children are horrified of anyone that lives outside their communities. If you have never lived their lives you have no idea what they are going through, so what gives any of us the right to decide for them.
My motto is don't judge, because eventualy karma will come back and bite you.

Still Shocked

Chuckless55. I am sorry to have to ask but you say ""The government ought to be more interested in underage pregnancies in poor and blighted ares than in a thriving and viable community of the FLDS". From what i understand and i freely admit i am not an expert but if i do understand correctly the FLDS is a thriving community because many of the children dont go to school and work in concrete plants etc so they can bid for contracts cheaply. Also they have alot of money because they get lots of social security for their hundreds of children. Now i do agree that underage pregnancy is a problem every where. But the reasons (again if i understand correctly) the FLDS are thriving all seem a little wrong to me.
But you are sooooooo right underage pregnancy is a problem young girls of any creed colour or religion are not equipped to deal with it. Its damn hard work. hahaha. (said in jest i love my kids)

16-17 year olds are not "borderline". The cases represent clear violation of the laws of the state. Taking over the UEP trust was justified based on how it was being run.

I think the government does more to go after statutory rapists than many of you give it credit for. The thing is normally it is single cases at a time and so does not get media attention.

RE: Still Shocked

"if i understand correctly"

Are you talking about understanding the "Aligations" of the hate groups against the FLDS that the government has been investigating for ten to fifty years and still has no evidence?
