Awesome! It's incredible to have these types of discoveries right in our "back yard."

It was only through the efforts of quarrying the rock that these fossils came to light. I wonder how much work was done by the treehuggers trying to stop the quarry?

Can't be! The earth is only 6K years old.

Why would a paleontologist who believes in evolution be surprised to find any new types of fossils?

BigNick

they really should leave any and all bones alone, would you really like someone to dig up your bones??

not surprised

The paleontologist would be surprised to find something new in this area as what has already been found seems to cover the evolutionary record. Finding something new somewhere else, well that's another story.

Dinosaurs were not birds! Scientists are smart?
What do dinosaurs look like anyway? Barney the purple dinosaur or Big Bird? DUH!

What a great find :) Look forward to hearing more as things progress!

Part of the article says:

"A huge haul of dinosaurs has been uncovered in Utah...Nobody anticipated the scale or the scope of what was there. Once they started excavating, they realized that the magnitude was far more than they had expected,"

Keep digging,
according to a very accurate history book,
there are many more fossils to be found:

Genesis 7:21-24 (NIV)
21 Every living thing that moved on the earth perished birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.

22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.

23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.

24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

"The biblical account of Noah's Ark and the Universal Flood is perhaps the most implausible story for fundamentalists to defend. Where, for example, while loading his ark, did Noah find penguins and polar bears in Palestine?" -Judith Hayes, In God We Trust: But Which One?

Well folks, as a member of the team from Burpee who unearthed these bones, all I can say is thank you for the opportunity to work at such a perfect location. Very few of these bones needed to be "quarried." Most of them are covered by a layer of loose dirt on top and then entrenched in a very soft rock, workable rock. For many years, this site has been looted by the few local people who knew where to look. Now, this special place (found by us by those same smart local people) will receive the adequate care and attention it deserves from both Utah specialists and even world-wide Paleontologists.

Likely, this site will not produce any "new" dinosaurs, as the rock formation in which they lay has been studied thoroughly in many nearby locations. However, because of it's size (over a football field in length) and the amount of bones found only in a few short months, this site's potential for revealing insights into the behavior, diets, etc. of dinosaurs is great. It is a fantastic site, and I am honored to be a part of it.
