It's nice to see Utah living up to, or should I say down to, the image that the rest of the nation has of it. They know they can't beat Obama in the election, and that their votes will be irrelevant, so they resort to hate and racism. The great racist state of Utah. You should all be proud. And then to make money off of your racism. Yeah, what a great state.

"PC means "polite conversation" about as much as homosexuality means "committed, loving relationship"."

The first couple to get married in San Francisco today was a lesbian couple who have been together for over fifty years. If that's not love and commitment, I don't know what is.

I've never seen so many bigots stereotype an entire state just because two people made a racist toy - intentionally or not. Just how is being a bigot superior to being a racist?

Oh wait... I don't have a valid point of view - I'm from Utah!

Please don't lump us all together. There are plenty of Utahns who do not support this type of toy and who respect others as simply being people.

I am tired of people telling me I was created by a god. I could get offended by that boy's remark. I am living a fabulous life due to the amazing workings of this astonishing universe. The fact that I made it against such astronomical odds is fantastic. What a rush.

Well said, Amy. Congratulations and best wishes to all of those committed, loving couples who at long last, or even in the heat of the moment, are able to now enjoy the ties that bind.

To all that have sarcasm against this I guess you have never been up against racism. Well then you are in the blond and blue of Utah so I would guess you haven't been quite there in the experience that is put upon the people of color.

really? | 11:56 p.m. June 16, 2008
this is for "Dear Who???". Are you for real? I have been called more names by black people then I ever have been by white. Do I have black friends yes, brown and white also. And the racist of them all are the blacks. I worked with one black, very educated man, someone brought in a white cake, and he refused to eat any. I asked him why he didn't have any and he told me because it was white. He told me no he associated it with the color of people and he refused to have any, he said chocolate was the best because that was the best skin color. My daughter also had a black boyfriend, the racist names he called her would have curled your toe nails. You really need to get out more, and really see what the world is like. People of all colors have racist issues.

"Are you for real? I have been called more names by black people then I ever have been by white."

I think your complete and utter ignorance of the racial history of this country--since you professed not knowing what "Jim Crow" laws were--might have a wee bit to do with that.

"And the racist of them all are the blacks."

This is so untrue. I live in the South, where black people have TONS of very legitimate grievances. I have worked with lots and lots of black people in different, and not one has ever been mean to me because I was white. I was the only white person in an African-American literature class, and no one was rude to me or made me feel unwelcome.

This is not about individuals being "mean" to individuals. It is about INSTITUTIONALIZED racism such as that in the LDS Church. It is about official policies such as banning blacks from holding the priesthood. It is about degrading doctrines officially taught by leaders of an organization.

The LDS Church's teachings that Black's were "less valiant" spirits in the pre-existence and were therefore sent to an "inferior race" are undeniable. Look up all the talks on the subject by Elder Mark E. Petersen, a member of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. Look up Elder Bruce R. McConkie's statements on the matter. The LDS are the most racist religion in America! Look it up!

And here are the prophetic words of LDS Church President Joseph Fielding Smith:

Not only was Cain called upon to suffer, but because of his wickedness he became the father of an inferior race... Moreover, they have been made to feel their inferiority and have been separated from the rest of mankind from the beginning (The Way to Perfection, p.101).

I think the comments made by Obama's minister were much worse than anything said by the LDS church. And what does the LDS church have to do with anything? We're talking about a sock puppet.

I Love the Obama Monkey. I want one!!! I think it's freedom of speech. Sorry if it offends anyone. Black people don't worry if what they do or say offends me. I so tried of the double standard. Sorry I have rights too. Thank You Joan
Anonymous | 10:49 a.m. June 17, 2008
joan, you are a part of the problem... that's all i can say
ryan f | 12:07 p.m. June 17, 2008
to joan mercer - i would imagine that all the black people of the world don't really appreciate you speaking for them. there is no double standard - racism is racism, regardless of what color the person saying it is.

Those of you who either weren't around in the 50's and 60's or just live in la la land most of the time just don't "get it"! This is the kind of stuff (portraying blacks as monkeys) that was used as subversion in literature throughout that time by racist evil hatemongers, the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazi's and many others. READ YOUR HISTORY BOOKS ONCE IN A WHILE!!
I guess I am not surprised this comes from a state that approves of 12 year olds marrying 50 year old men and inbreeding is the official state sport.
Zombie McCain | 9:06 a.m. June 18, 2008
"A McCain MUMMY, or better yet, a McCain ZOMBIE

I'm voting for Obama, and I would've liked one. "

THIS PLAN. IS WIN.

on a side note...

Are Zombies racist?

Utah Primary Results:

Barack Obama 74,538 56.7% 14
Hillary Rodham Clinton 51,333 39.1
John McCain 15,931 5.4 0

I do not believe all of Utah is racist or Obama would not have won the Primary in Feb.

As for the sock monkey not being racist WTF are you talking about? Throughout history African Americans/Blacks have been compared to monkeys/apes.
Save the evolution theory along with all the other protests implying it was not racist.

Racism is so rare in Utah==omly because she lived in an all white area!!
And yes Utah has it's share of racists along with any other state so do not act dumb. I spent summers in Utah with family and saw it for myself.
To: Katerina | 9:46 p.m. June 18, 2008
Nice stats but lets get it real in Utah. It is more pallatable for a man of a shade of skin darker thea the average Utahn to achive office then a women, that is very clear among the majority of Utahns.

As far as John McCain well he was running against a mormon, enough is said there.

So thank you for the comment but the stats would prove detrimental to your argument if you put it in front of educated people.

A million political cartoons portraying Bush as a big
eared monkey and nothing but giggles...

This uproar coming from a society that wants to believe the monkies are their Grandpas...too funny!
Tank | 5:11 p.m. June 19, 2008
Geno so what are you getting at? Are you one of those confused bible thumpers that do not believe in evolution?
Beautiful, we have the Scopes trial all over again.
Just when I think I can no longer be astonished at a person's take on an item...along comes the Thumpers.
