Two goals in my little, narrow world: Don't draft a thug and draft a guy who loves hard-nosed defense.
Gary | 9:32 a.m. June 16, 2008
I'm not a Jazz fan, but being in Utah I like to keep track of them. This guy doesn't fit in with the Jazz. He has trouble written all over him if he doesn't get the playing time or the money HE thinks he deserves.
Jimmy's Sneakers | 9:36 a.m. June 16, 2008
Jimmy still likes Plaisted. Jimmy thinks that he is the man for Utah.

I say draft the 7'2" Hibbert and alternate him and Fesenko backing up Okur at center. Okur can also move to PF when Boozer comes out while Millsap can back up Andre in addition to Boozer. That way we develop two 7 footers and Okur, Boozer, and Millsap can still have their playing time. With a 7-foot guy back there, Williams can get more aggressive on defense and probably boost his steals per game. We'll also get more rebounds. There, I should call Sloan and tell him I've got it all figured out for next year. Of course, if I'm so smart, why am I posting messages here and not coaching. :)
re: Jazz Fan | 9:53 a.m. June 16, 2008
I'm impressed. Most fans don't seem to recognize their limitations. You do. Good commments too. You seem to realize we're all guessing at what might be. If we were better guessers, we might coach.
Jimmy? | 10:21 a.m. June 16, 2008
Jimmy, Plaisted is NO GOOD for us!
looktothesky | 10:49 a.m. June 16, 2008
You are right, i would consider suicide if the jazz draft Plaisted. Just kidding though, lets just get hibbert and a good point guard to back up williams, and price, and hope the jazz toss collins and hart.
TJ | 11:05 a.m. June 16, 2008
Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy. You can't be serious about Plaisted. I sure hope you are being sarcastic. I would say the Jazz should draft Hibbert but if he is gone then they should look at Jawai from Australia. Those would be my two choices in the draft but who knows maybe the individual work outs say something different. I would like it if these articles talked most about the workouts and informed us of who impressed and who didn't.
Joopiter to Marz | 11:31 a.m. June 16, 2008
I honestly dont think that our draft pick, way at 23, will help us all that much for at least three years. I think if we want to get better this year we need to make some moves with people we've already got. Obviously Hart and Collins NEED TO GO, but who else? People are talkin about Okur and Boozer being gone after next year. I'm thinkin Okur stays and as much as I like him, Booz leaves. So why not get someone for him now? What do you think about trading Booz for someone like say... Chris Kaman? He can play defense, shot block, rebound, and play with his back to the basket. I know their salaries dont quite match, but a scrub here and there wont make much of a difference. Besides, then we could move Okur to PF, which I think would be a more natural fit for him, especially since he guards all the bigger better PF's anyway. I say trade Booz while he still has some value, even though as I said, I quite like the guy.

Taking Plaisted

Draft pick wasted.
Plaisted | 11:47 a.m. June 16, 2008
I think someone is posing as Jimmy regarding Plaisted. But I do think Plaisted will surprise a few of us and do ok in the NBA. The reason is that he really is extremely athletic for his size. The NBA is a fast-break run and gun league and he just might fit there better than he did in college. Give him a few years to develop a face up move and a jump shot and he may actually surprise. But I think he would come with way too much baggage and local negativity to make it on the Jazz - and the Jazz do not fit his up and down the floor style as a Golden State or Denver would.
Walker | 12:00 p.m. June 16, 2008
I agree that our 23rd pick will hardly be an impact player for us in the immediate future. Truth is that we need to drop Andrei AND Booz, though I like them both, pick up Shawn Marion or someone of his type that will fit in with JS's style and ensure our cap is able to surely fit DWill in.
Another Luther Wright? | 1:00 p.m. June 16, 2008
Considering this guy's expectations about Utah, I don't think he's smart enough to play in the NBA. Remember Luther Wright?
smith49 | 1:21 p.m. June 16, 2008
seriously? plaisted? cmon you guys, the guy is a second round pick at best. he may be athletic, but he is not capable of bangin' inside with the bigs in the nba. i would be very surprised to see him last more then a couple of seasons in the nba. as far as our draft pick we should definetly take hibbert if he is there, unless someone better drops to the jazz. i also agree that the jazz should start shoppin boozer. he will opt out after this comming season and someone will offer him the max. package him up and get something for him now while they can.
Wake Something | 2:19 p.m. June 16, 2008
Come on everybody. Plaisted might be an okay pick if we pick him in the second round... but I think the Jazz need to shop one of their second round picks and their first round pick to move up a spot or two and get Roy Hibbert. There is no better option for the Jazz than Hibbert this year (who by the way will have an impact on the Jazz this year if selected). The Jazz then need to shop Jason Harts expiring contract and possibly one of our swing men, and pick up Earl Watson from Seattle to play behind Deron. Seattle is basically trying to do as poorly as possible right now so I think that trade could happen. Or, the Jazz need to buy out Hart and pick up Earl Watson through free agency. Sorry Hart... you are a good guy, but go enjoy your millions of dollars on a beach somewhere.
Johnny | 3:07 p.m. June 16, 2008
To Plaisted, 11:47 AM:

The NBA a fast break run and gun league? You must watch a different league than I do. Other than a couple of teams, that is not the case. That's one reason why, for the most part, the average NBA game is BORING, unless you have a rooting interest in one of the teams.
Trade Deron Williams... | 3:07 p.m. June 16, 2008
I think the Jazz should trade Deron Williams while we still can. He was a total ball hog, and thats the main reason why Boozer looked bad, because Williams didn't pass to him and messed up the Jazz's chemistry. We should trade him and try to get someone with experience like Sam Cassell or Robert Horry, guys that have been there and know how to get the job done.
Re. Trade Derron Williams | 3:19 p.m. June 16, 2008
Maybe we could get Mutombo here too. He is the big man that we have been missing all along. Good call, let's send that no good D-Will packin'.
Re: Trade Deron Williams | 3:20 p.m. June 16, 2008
Are you freakin nuts? You'd struggle to if you had two seven footers running at you.
Trade who??? | 3:32 p.m. June 16, 2008
Trading D-Will is a horrible idea. If Deron Williams was a ball hog then why did he average over 10 assists a game and only around 20 pts per game? He is one of the best point guards in the league. If he wanted to be a ball hog, he would have a much higher scoring average. D-Will only scores a lot when he feels the rest of the team is not playing. You more than likely don't watch the Jazz. It is like trading Kevin Garnett for Jaren Collins.
Trade Derron Williams | 3:41 p.m. June 16, 2008
Ronnie Price is ready to lead this team. Let's use D-Will to get the pieces that we really need.
Gargantuon | 3:48 p.m. June 16, 2008
Whoever says trader Deron Williams is not a true Jazz fan. He is the glue of this team, and we would melt down like the Miami Heat without him. Thats crazy talk.
Re: Trade Deron Williams | 3:51 p.m. June 16, 2008
Not only did Williams make too many shots this playoffs, he had too many assists. If fact if we could get his turnovers up and his free throws down and he'd sprain both ankles and get arthritis we'd have Sam Cassel for nothin'! Or we could just get big O back have him start at point and have memo back him up. Guaranteed first night sellout.
Hart is the man | 3:53 p.m. June 16, 2008
Jason Hart is the one to run this team. Dump D-Will and Price, get Plaisted in place of both Boozer and AK. Hart feeding to Plaisted in the only way we make it to the finals. Losers like D-Will and Boozer only bring this team down. And if Sloan had the foresight to start Collins alongside Plaisted we just may appoach Celtic of old success. And if Sloan can't do it bring in Austin Ainge - he has solid D-1 coaching experience and has been named a Celtic Scout. I think that ought to do it!
Funny | 3:55 p.m. June 16, 2008
Thanks for the post about trading D-Will. It gave us something to comment about. By the way, I hear Booz is going to be on the olympic team, maybe someone on that team can teach him how to defend.
Anonymous | 4:00 p.m. June 16, 2008
Idiots, how do you fall for that Plaisted joke every time?
Re: Trade Deron Williams | 4:09 p.m. June 16, 2008
To whoever thinks Williams is the glue that holds the Jazz together, get a clue. Didn't you watch the playoffs? He deliberately discluded his teammates and single handedly passed the series over to L.A. With Ronnie price running the point, we would've swept the Lakers. I agree we need someone like Mutombo, or perhaps if we got Ostertag back with this new lineup and Price running the point, we would've beat the Celtics in 6 for the championship. Unfortunately we'll be stuck with Willams for a few more years.
Re: Trade Deron Williams | 4:45 p.m. June 16, 2008
Williams gave Boozer plenty of opportunities, but Boozer couldn't follow through once. Williams is a great player and unlike many of the players on our team he has heart and he comes to play. Rather than planning their vacations before the playoffs are even over. Trading Williams would be a very big mistake, get a clue.
We need more Plaisted | 4:44 p.m. June 16, 2008
To bad Cummard is out of the draft, or we could have traded D-Will and Booz to move up in the draft and take Plaisted and Cummard, then the Jazz could win the Mountain West every year and then loose in the tournament to a mediocre team. But really D-Will needs a forward that doesn't give up when he is having a bad shooting game, I would rather see Millsap, at least he blocks shots and rebounds every night. The Jazz hopefully will get Hibbert to help with the soft interior defense. Maybe I would trade a 10 year old D-Will for 96 Sam Cassell, but i'd have to think about it
arc | 5:13 p.m. June 16, 2008
I, for one, was not impressed with Boozer this last year. He seemed to be one of the reasons the Jazz lost. I think we should trade Boozer.
jazzsmack | 5:54 p.m. June 16, 2008
Jazz and the jazz fans will kicking themselves for missing out on Jason thompson.

He is the big steal in the draft.

the jazz really neeed to move up a few spots in the draft.

Having seen footage of hibbert he does not look as slow and unatheletic as everyone is saying. My guess is there may some motivational problems with him or he is a late bloomer and is behind other in his developement.
Joe | 7:34 p.m. June 16, 2008
Ostertag, Mutumbo, Plaisted, HART?????? Those names on a starting line up will take 30 wins off of an already improving Jazz team. D-Will, Boozer (with a little practice on his offense), Okur, Kirelinko,... and I think we'll really start to see Brewer shine defensively and offensively, are doing a great job. Getting Hibbert and rotating around the perimeter is key for the Jazz.
Trent Plaisted | 8:20 p.m. June 16, 2008
Will you guys stop bad mouthing me?
Wow | 8:43 p.m. June 16, 2008
You guys really can't sense the sarcasm regarding Williams? Really? I think you all need to go back to the first grade!
Anonymous | 9:08 p.m. June 16, 2008
D-Will is da man! you trade him, jazz are nothing.
What? | 9:43 p.m. June 16, 2008
Who ever thinks we should get rid of D-Will should be put in a crazy home. He is the best think that ever happened to the Jazz. He the player we should be building around. I do think we should trade boozer, collins, hart, and draft picks to miami to try and get beasley. I also think we should trade Kirelinko to try and get iguodala or dalenbert. That's the way to go.
Send Boozer to Miami | 10:10 p.m. June 16, 2008
The only time Gasol, and Odom were not scoring on Boozer was when AK was guarding them. I didn't like AK guarding Kobe, Kobe will always make his points. The long arms and bodies of Gasol, and Odom were to much for Boozer and his already awful defense. Boozer was our down fall in the playoffs. Send Boozer to Miami for Haslem Udonis, and Mark Blout which should meet the trade requirements. Move Okur to PF- Millsap to PF/SF, and AK to SF - Haslem, and Mark can back up at C/PF . Draft Hibbert( You can't teach height) and start giving more junk minutes to Kyrylo (there is some good potential there).
paymon | 10:41 p.m. June 16, 2008
i think we should trade hart for chris paul then collins for dwight howard after that we still need to improve so trade kirilenko for lebron james AND Kobe Bryant in some kind of four team trade also involving memphis because they really know how to deal players over there. then we can trade boozer for garnett. then trade brewer for lebron james kid. after that trade jerry sloan for phil jackson. and get pete maravich back in a jazz uniform and i think we will have a decent chance at a championship...

Re: Trent Plaisted

Sorry Trent ... the people who post here didn't think you would be reading the Deseret News. Otherwise, their posts would have been even worse.

Take heart though, you have at least one fan ... Jimmy's Sneakers. Uh ... make that two fans since he likes to speak in the third person.

paymon your an idiot.. | 12:35 a.m. June 17, 2008
You have to be the biggest idiot in the world.... this isn't a video game where you can trade junk for stars... step back into reality..
Listen to Jerry Sloan | 5:02 a.m. June 17, 2008
Jerry Sloan has stated D-Will is maybe the smartest player and on-court leader he has ever coached. Considering JS's love for Stockton, that indicates he sees a lot of Stockton in D-Will. That should be enough for any Jazz fan to keep in mind before spewing ridiculous talk of trading D-Will for anyone. Price is a good backup, but please, he is no more capable of being the starting point on this team than Howard Eisley or Jacque Vaughn were when Stock was still playing. Does the team need more pieces to reach championship level? Yes. Just like former Jazz teams, those pieces are: a power forward who doesn't choke in big games; a true scoring/rebounding/defending center, and two solid outside threats to prevent defenses from packing in on our power forward/centers (Korver is one, who is the other?). D-Will is as good or better than Chris Paul, but playing in UT hasn't helped his national popularity and media attention. Was there a team on national TV less than the Jazz last year? If you are advocating trading D-Will, you must know more about the game than Sloan and Phil Johnson. Put down the X-Box and come back to reality.
sloan hater | 11:12 a.m. June 17, 2008
Williams is a good player, but he is not worth
80 million. If he was worth 80 million we would
be in the Finals right now. Williams, has played in
over 300 NBA games right now.He is not a young NBAer
now, and the Jazz are a veteran team. Dont, buy into
the young team, anymore. Harpring,Andrei, Boozer,Collins, Korver,Okur,Hart, they have all been
around the block
bob carlisle | 12:37 p.m. June 17, 2008
the jazz should have one goal this off season get rid of hart and collins. those are the players that have no talent. we have cj, use him. get a quality center in the first round get a back up point guard in the second.
Jazz fan in Carolina | 12:50 p.m. June 17, 2008
paymon your an idiot:

you're (proper grammar) the idiot. Paymon is a comedian. That was hilarious, what he wrote about trading kirilenko for Kobe and Lebron!!
Carlos Boozer | 3:48 p.m. June 17, 2008
I wanna go to the kings so i can win a championship! Like they did in 02'!
Deron Williams is the man!!! | 4:03 p.m. June 17, 2008
DWill is the best player the Jazz have had since Malone & Stockton! He will be one of the greatest point guards to play this game & if you want to see him do that in another jersey then the jazz blue then your an idiot! I cant wait to see some more Dwill Jazz basketball!! I would pay 100 million to have him on my team!!
Jimmy's Sneakers | 4:14 p.m. June 17, 2008
Jimmy thinks Williams is pretty good. Jimmy doesn't think that he is as good as Jason Kidd or Baron Davis, but he is good. Jimmy thinks if the Jazz trade him it should be for Camby and Kleiza from Denver.
moron | 7:04 p.m. June 17, 2008
This kid could not pick up the Jazz offense!
Mike Buys | 7:08 p.m. June 17, 2008
The Jazz better hope thier is some length that they can draft, until they do that they can't contend with Boston or LA. Boozer was exposed in the playoffs because he is'nt long. Get some athletic length like boston and LA and we can contend for a championship next year, there is know doubt about it. We have the best point guard around, and Boozer is a big time player don't get me wrong. Are you listening Jazz management?? This does'nt get done and we are out in the first or second round again.
Dee | 7:35 p.m. June 17, 2008
