Type II diabetes don't need to take insulin. Some do, but most take oral meds. I've got Type II and the diabetes educator said they like everyone in insulin because you get better control over your blood glucose.
Oral meds aren't new for type II diabetics.
I was on oral meds for my type II diabetes for years and they have side effects like constipation and diaherria. I have been on insulin for a few years and I have better control of blood sugars and less side effects. The shots are easy to take because of the advancement in needles. Just a little tiny sting. I am at best sceptical of more oral meds.
Since I developed Type II Diabetes a few years ago, I have been able to completely control my blood sugar levels using oral medications like Metformin. My blood sugar levels are absolutely in the normal range. The new blood glucose monitors that need only small pricks on the upper arms and are therefore less painful than pricks on the fingertips are also encouraging more regular testing and real time adjustment of blood sugar.
It is therefore amazing to me that a man like Larry Miller, for whom cost is no object, should have lost control of his blood glucose and developed serious complications. He can surely have an assistant do the hard part of monitoring, medicating and meal planning for him.
