The very idea of Mormon "news," other than which old white guy is "called" to some position, is ridiculous. The church has demonstrated time and again that the only "news" it wants to hear is what it approves of. If the Desert News wants to be a newsletter for the church it should just be honest enough to say so.

This "apology" doesn't seem much like an apology to me. If what he means is that the news coverage will be more objective and not slanted towards Mormonism, he failed in his column to convey that. The statement seems to reaffirm the idea that the paper is unabashedly trying to do more to serve its Mormon audience and is trying to be an LDS church mouthpiece rather than be unbiased. That's my two cents.
