As a historian constantly looking for sources available on the net, I am excited
to learn about this great resource. I have been searching for a valid record of
a CW pension for an LDS convert from Italy who came to Utah in 1854. After a few
years, he joined the US Army at Camp Floyd, went with his regiment to Virginia
in 1861, fought in the Peninsula Campaign under McClellan, was seriously wounded
at Gaines's Mill in June 1862 and was discharged in 1863 with a pension. Using
Footnote, I was able to locate an image of his pension record. After returning
to Utah, he established a photography and jewelry shop on Main Street in Logan.
It was still in business (run by descendants) when I needed to buy an engagement
ring in 1852. Historiams should celebrate this business.
