it's the Pac-10 not Pac-0.....LOL!!
Just a word of advice to this kids. Make sure you work hard to keep education your priority one. Motivate yourselves to study hard and play hard. The best of luck to all of you...
Look, attend the University of Utah! There used to be a time when we were proud to call our boys Utah Boys...play at home, the U is a respectable program, and has placed several players in the NFL. More importantly, you can play for your home school, be proud of who and where you came from, and have your friends and family to cheer you on. I live in Nebraska and they still have the Nebraska Boy mentality...and it is great to see....
Are we supposed to feel sorry for John because he is tired of attention and potential scholarship offers from D-1 schools? Please, if you're tired of it John, just tell them you don't want any contact until September when you would like to visit campus and attend practices and games. If they don't respect your wishes and call anyway during the summer, then you know they won't respect your wishes in other areas of life either and you can eliminate them from consideration. They do not control you, so don't whine that it's getting old. If you didn't want the phone calls, you could put a stop to them.
And I agree with "seriously" above, that you should consider local schools. Utah and BYU are good programs, with BYU currently ranked in the top 20 and projected to be in a BCS bowl after this coming season. It may be flattering to be recruited by USC, UCLA, LSU, and others, but with your talent you would be a starter at the U or BYU sooner and get ample media attention. The Y has lots of O-lineman who have gone to the pros if that is your goal.
College Football is a waste of money...
Here's the difference. Nebraska can lose an early game, a conference game and still play in the Big 12 Championship game. Where, if they win, they go to a New Year's Game and recieve 18 Million dollars.
If, no WHEN, BYU or Utah lose their first game this year they are relegated to a before Christmas game in Las Vegas against the FIFTH place team from the Pac 10 AT BEST.
I'd say that is a little bit different.
In the included picture, he's posing in a Florida Gators t-shirt. Maybe he's already made his decision.
and he has a USC wristband. I guess he is going to both schools!
I agree with the idea of staying in the State and play for one of the schools. If you go to them big schools, you could be overlooked and ended up cheering from the sidelines. Stay in the State of Utah kids...
Nebraska is in a great conference, they play a very competitive schedule. These kids don't want to stay here because of the lack of exposure in the MTN conference. Up untill this year you could barely see them on TV in Utah!.
Nebraska recruits outside their state more than anyone!.
So John should settle for BYU and the MTN conference when he could go to USC in the PAC 10 or LSU in the SEC, get real dude. How many players were drafted in the pros this year from Utah and BYU. Don't tell me I already know. I could count them all on one hand, no half a hand. LSU had more guys drafted off one team than the entire MTN conference. And why all the anger, I sense a bit of jealousy here.
If you are one of the top players in the country at your position then I say go to one of the top schools in the country. I forgot the linebacker's name from SLC who went to USC over BYU and Utah. He was considered one of the best at his position but I heard a lot of comments that he would forever be lost on the bench at a school like USC. Well now he is starting there and widely considered one of the top if not the top FB in the nation at one of the top programs. The amount of NFL eyes watching him the rest of his career is many times more than if he stayed in state. There are very few Utah kids, like Martinez, who truly are considered one of the best in the nation at their position. But if you are then certainly go for it. If you are LDS, there are always good institute programs at these other universities and it can actually be funner with a small, tight-knit group of LDS friends and you stand out more. The Y and BYU will have plenty of other good players to choose from.
Hey Martinez,
Don't go to the coast or the flat lands. Come and check us out in Boulder Colorado. Like the background of your picture, we have the mountains to enjoy and we can make you part of one of the greatest Offensive Line in the country...
Do what every blogger here does in his own personal life, do what's best for you, John.
Staying near home at BYU or Utah will make it easier for your family and friends to attend your games. You'll probably get to play more because you'll be a starter earlier in your college career.
On the other hand, if playing for a big name school is more important to you, go for it.
For those athletes who want a scholarship to get an education I have an idea -- start studying and going to school now. Work as hard at that as you do at athletics, and you can get an academic scholarship, and you'll be well paid the rest of your life.
Play for fun, study for school.
Poor kid...
All he wants to do is play football, but he has half of the coaches around breathing down his neck, essentially challenging him to not make a mistake.
Just play ball, and ignore the clipboard jockeys.
...is actually a fullback - Stanley Havili (also attended Cottonwood High), and he's being touted as one of the top FB's in the country. Go Colts!!
It doesn't matter what school you play for. If you're good enough you'll get drafted. If your not you may be a free agent. Put education first, football second.
It isnt complicated, scarlet and gray look good in the fall. OH-IO
Wanna play for a winner. Head to LSU. Scarlet and gray may look good in the fall BUT Purple and Gold look really GOOD with a BCS Championship. If he is good then he will not sit on the bench. Les Miles plays his players. Be prepared when your time comes is all he asks. Geaux Tigers!!!!!!!!!!
