Way to go!

Nice example and dedication. That is a great life lesson for the students to be learning.

Just one more example of the great work being done in public education in Utah.

Thanks Principal Sagers!

Can we get some of the female teachers around Utah to run with him? Seems like every school I go to has a group of "waddlers". At least 4 or 5 ladies that can barely make it to the faculty room to buy their next soda. They usually are carting around one of those 100 oz. big gulps in the morning before school as well.

What kind of example is that. Look at what Dr. Sagers has done. Any of them could do it as well. They might even get the insurance company to finally reduce their rate instead of increase it by so much each year.

Is there a polite way to tell them?

Thanks for showing us a great example of perseverance and strength to accomplish a tough goal!

re Utah Teacher: Wow that was not very nice! You better be careful when you start pointing your finger at others you have three fingers pointing back at you!!!!! I sure there is something not right in your own life that you could work on instead of being spiteful to others go look in the mirror!

BTW way to go what a great story and example for us all!

Utah Teacher: You are rude and I certainly don't want YOU as the example teaching my children how to treat others....especially women.

What Mr. Sagers has done is commendable and great but who is paying for the rewards? $50 to teachers, Subway sandwiches and trips to Raging Waters, where do the funds come from? The kids on the west side of the valley don't get things like this. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% in favor of getting the youth more physically active but I'd like to know where the funding is coming from.

Also, is this the Paul Sagers who used to work out in Magna at Brockbank Jr or Cyprus (I forget which)? Just curious.

Way to go East students!!

Paul,
Congratulations on achieving your goal and leading by example. I knew your late brother John quite well in High School and he was a persona of physical fitness. I'm sure he would be proud.

Um, UT teacher was stating that more teachers need to do something like that, and I have seen exactly what she's talking about. I don't think that was mean.

Anyway GO LEOPARDS!!!! Where was this guy when I went to East??
good job | 3:21 p.m. June 9, 2008
Sounds like he has had a couple of good jobs. The first in Granite to sit around and gain the weight and then in Salt Lake to spend time losing it. It looks like from the outside there was not much time to do things for students and teachers.

To Wow:
East High is not just an East Side school. Many kids from the West Side of Salt Lake (Glendale and Poplar Grove) attend East High. The article stated that the PTSA provided the Principals gift, I would propably be a good guess that they helped with the rest.
To good job: | 4:58 p.m. June 9, 2008
Did you read the whole article? He got up at 4:30 am to work out every day. He took time out of his sleeping, not out of working with students and teachers. Also, helping students to be healthy will benefit their education as they are better able to learn . . . And teachers are better able to teach when they are healthy. Give the man the credit he deserves. He accomplished something huge, and helped others while he did it!

Great work. Of course he was doing stuff for the kids and teachers as well. Just setting such a great example is the best lesson he could teach both groups. Thanks for the inspiration.
