I sure hope Hibbert doesn't turn out to be the next Greg Ostertag for the Jazz.

Sounds like he could be Collins replacement. I certainly hope so. The Jazz could use a big body like his. Hopefully, he's reasonably agile and a good post defender. We don't need another big slow guy on the court (aka Ostertag).

Wiley Old School

You can bag on Ostertag all you want but if the Jazz had had a circa 2000 Ostertag coming off the bench this year, they'd still be playing.

Wow, just what we need, another unathletic, slow big man who can't play 40 min per game when asked. If this were international it would be fine, he could camp under the basekt, but here he will have to actually stay with a man and guard him. More of the same matador defense if we draft this guy. If they are intent on drafting a big in this draft, they need to move up to get McGee or hope that Lopez is available. We really don't need much more offensive firepower, what we need is someone athletic enough to stay with the elite bigs in the west (Duncan, Stoudamire, Chandler, Aldridge) and still be quick enough and explosive enough for help defense to bail out Boozer. Stay away from Hibbert....the comparison to O-tag is probably correct, only Hibbert is not as athletic or as bulky/tall (Hibbert just under 7'2", O just over and heavier by 20 lbs.) as O was...not sure about his work ethic either as he really did not improve over the year in college much.

i hope you guys know that the only big man to ever shut down SHAQ was ostertag. just to let you know that lol

Hibbert would be a great fit for the Jazz. He adds size and strenght. Some of you are comparing him to Tag. Well, guess what!!! Tag was outstanding when he played hard. Now the difference between Hibbery and Tag is that Hibbert can really shot. He can block shots and get rebounds. With that said, just think about how much this would help Memo, Boozer, AK and the rest. A ligitimate Center that can also pass the ball. Maybe if you would have seen him play in college, you may think otherwise. Draft Hibbert if available at 23 :.)

Re: rvalens2

I agree. Anything to get rid of Collins. He wastes space sitting on the bench and wastes money getting on the court (whenever he does). Is there a point to him being on the team besides saying the Jazz have a legit 7' player?

mike

Since when did backup centers start playing all star centers like duncan, and stoudamire. Nobody in the starting 5 is going to move so it would be a great backup at center, then millsap can come in for boozer. Plus his work ethis has to be better, he looks nothing like the fatso named Ostertag. We just need some blocks and he averaged 2.8 a season. Good pickup for the jazz.

Jimmy's Sneakers

Jimmy told you guys that this would be the pick several weeks ago, so learn to love it or at least accept it.

For some reason everyone likes to compare Roy to Big O, but let Jimmy ask you, is that such a bad thing? Jimmy would be happy if the #23 pick turned out to being a 10 year starter, do you haters have any idea at how many #23 picks wash out of the league after their rookie contracts?

Oh, and FYI, Duncan, Stoudemire, Chandler, Aldridge, were all picked well before the #23 slot, if you want a player of that caliber the Jazz will need to trade up into the top 5.

Ummm ...

Did the Jazz trade Feseno? At pick 23, we need to find someone who can push boozer in practice to teach him how to play defense!!

Agree With Wiley

People love to bag on Ostertag, but most of that comes from the amount of money he made. You remove that from the equation, and he was a very serviceable center. He wasn't athletic, but could rebound and was good for 20+ min of solid defense.

Remember bigs like that don't come around that often, take him if he's still on the board (my thinking is someone will have the same opinion and take him sooner). Most Jazz fans watch and understand the offense, but its the defense that needs help. I'm personally tired of watching booz play ole' defense, and memo only try when he feels like it. We need a defensive presence!

Eye Dee Ten Tee

The Jazz are not only the best team to never win a title, they are also the best team who never has had a great center. Tag was the best, until our favorite used car salesman signed him to a huge contract. After that, he would only show up to 5 or 6 games a year. (He shut down Shaq because he had the Mailman helping with the double team)
Anyway, my expectations of Jazz centers are not that high. If they can get someone who can let Okur play the number 4 position more often, I will be happy.

Adam

We need a defensive presence in the middle. I don't care if Hibbert can shoot well, I care about his defensive ability. If he can close up the middle and block some shots I'll be happy. We need a big guy who can clean the boards and stop people inside.

Whether Hibbert is the right guy, I'm not sure. I just know we need to get that kind of defensive presence on our team.

Stop It

Hibbert is not the answer. Number 1 Sloan doesn't play rookies or young players(except D-Will). Fess will be just as good as any rookie big man at 23. Trade for a BIG, we have alot of options with our present roster. I personally think Okafor or Mohammad from Charlotte are way better options. Also don't be too surprised if Fess doesn't improve in a short time much like Brewer did. This team does not need much, just some minor tweaking.

Rich $

I can't stand these posts of people complaining about Hibbert being too slow and unable to play 40 minutes. We don't need him to. He's going to play behind other guys, maybe 20 minutes at best. He doesn't have to be really quick because we play half court ball and he is a BIG improvement over Collins. Also, take a look at the guy and watch some Georgetown games, especially from two seasons ago where he played pretty good against Oden, who by the way will be joining our division this year. We don't need another untalanted Stanford twin either.

Jimmy's Sneakers

Jimmy thinks that the Jazz should take Plaisted out of BYU instead of Hibbert. Plaisted has true star potential. Jimmy thinks that he would be a total steal at #23.

Good on the Jazz

If they pick up a big, then good on them. That is what they need. They need someone to come in and be a force in the middle. Someone to make the other team think twice about driving to the hoop. I like Hibbert, he's a whole lot better than Lopez.

As far as the Sloan-bashing for not playing rookies or young players... uh... what about Millsap, D-Will and Brewer? The Sloan bashing has to stop, open your eyes and see.

HOFFA

Why they can't do Brazil? Jazz need big body and BYU is close. why not me or Trent in the middle to give some help against Pau Gasol. I yell at him in Portuguese. Why you not give a chance?

PurplePeopleEater

The Jazz can use all the height they can muster. And, you can't teach height. Hibbert, along with Fez, would really help the bench and give us better than what we've had in case of injuries to our few other big men.

We need tall people in this next draft. No one less than 6'9" should even be looked at, no matter their talent level (except for another Jordan or Kobe, but we're not drafting that high!).

I like the fact that this guy's personality and manners fit the Jazz type of player. He'll fit in nicely, and Fez needs some competition to keep him on point in improving.

Comparing Hibbert to Tag is a joke. That was obvious from watching his college clips. He's a better scorer and is reputed to be a great passer, which fits right into the Jazz offensive scheme.

For fans saying Hibbert isn't the answer because Sloan doesn't play rookies, do you even understand pro basketball? Drafting ANYONE isn't supposed to be that year's fix. Drafting is for the future of the team. Duh!

draft

We need size, but we also need athletic big men. Have you watched Booz and Okur run lately. The last thing we need is someone lumbering down the court. If Hibbert can't run......don't draft him. Here's to hoping Milsap continues to improve and he makes Booze tradeable! I'd trade Booze for Miami's number 2 pick today. Here is hoping the Jazz pick Hardin from Cal.....6.11 and athletic. He can block a fes shots, rebound and he can run......you can teach him some moves later!!
