Thank you American Vets | 1:04 p.m. June 5, 2008
My grandfather served in WWI. 3 of my uncles served in WWII. One didn't come home.

While I agree to a point that this man deserves our thanks and help, I still have to wonder about all of those American Vets who don't have the resources to help themselves. And what about the ones who served in Vietnam who didn't even get a thank you.

So THANK YOU!!! ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED IN THE MILITARY OUT OF LOVE AND RESPECT FOR THIS GREAT COUNTRY. And Thank You to those of you who served because you signed up for the educational benefits offered. MOST of all THANK YOU to the families who's loved ones never came home. They offered the ultimate sacrifice so I can write my opinion on this board and live in a free country. God Bless our Service Men and Women!

This is discraceful! This young mas should be treated as any wounded veteran would be. He has served our country and deserves our gratitude and respect.

WE CAN'T EVEN TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN TROOPS, WHY SHOULD WE TAKE CARE OF HIM.

Utah is a magnet for refugees? Perhaps that is NOT the reputation SLC wants - the taxpayers will pay for it in the long run. Look at Texas, Arizona, and California - the influx of people has nearly bankrupted these areas. Please THINK about the concequences of this unofficial reputation rather than react emotionally.

GIVE ME A BREAK. CAN'T WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN VETS FIRST?

What a chance for the Mormophobes to jump on board! Let's criticize the LDS Church even though they might not have known anything about this before this article. And whose organization is publicizing this guy's plight? Why, it's the LDS Church through its newspaper! How ironic!

Seriously, brother, go to the closest LDS Chapel and ask for the bishop. I guarantee you'll get some help. Also visit a free legal services clinic. And all of you out there, take the time to call Sens. Hatch and Bennett and your congressmen and see to it that this fellow is taken care of.

And for the sake of God, you anti-Mormons should lay off the bashing and pitch in to help this fellow, too. His plight is no more the LDS Church's fault than it's the anti-Mormons' fault.

Doesn't it seem silly that thousands of people go through the airport daily, and yet somehow the LDS Church is supposed to have a GPS on every one of them? Its not like there is an LDS screening area at the airport with someone there to take your name and ask you if you happen to be a disabled veteran deserving of assistance. Come on. Lets be reasonable here. Just a good reminder to keep your eyes open. That's all.
Get over it | 3:06 p.m. June 5, 2008
If you don't like refugees, don't start wars in the first place. Blame Bush-Cheny for starting the war not the poor refugee.
Mike H to Mike R | 3:30 p.m. June 5, 2008
To Mike R "When did this become the Mormon Church's responsibility"? The moment that they declared that they are the only heavenly sanctioned Christian Church. Where much is given much is expected. More specifically it is every members responsibility see to see that our brothers in need are taken care of.

Thank you Diyar, For your service, after Bush ripped the lid off of your country and plunged it into absolute chaos.
The message for Americans was wrapped neatly in the US flag - The road to Middle East Peace for Israel went through Baghdad, and ensured that Iraq couldn't threaten Israel's plans for future expansion or hamper the atrocities inflicted on Palestinians.

The destruction of Power Plants, Water systems, Holy Places, Hospitals, and Schools allowed the funneling of billions for reconstruction to Neocon Cabal owned business based in Tax Free countries.

Thank you for risking your life for our causes even after billions of Iraqi money, historic treasures & antiquities disappeared.
Thank you for standing by our troops, holding fast to the dream of Democracy that was peddled to you and the world with purple thumbs, as Bush fixed elections & installed hand picked puppets who would sign your oil rights and profits away.
We gifted you with 100% unemployment, hunger, monkey courts, summary executions, & a giant power vacuum. We fostered the extremism that would fill it by ignoring their anger, fear, grief, desperation & topped it off with vicious mercenaries, Abu-Garaib, and lies.
Diyar, I'm sorry.

Mike H:

"More specifically it is every members responsibility see to see that our brothers in need are taken care of. "

As much as is possible and reasonable to do help, I would agree. However, it is not our responsibility to guarantee that there can be no want. We balance the different obligations to our neighbor with our means to assist and go forward making the best use of the means the Lord has blessed us with. We have no responsibility, however, to insure that no want is possible. That is not what this life is about.
Another vet. | 5:22 p.m. June 5, 2008

Thank you for the very sincere thank you that has been offered.
Many veterans did serve this country out of a sense of service only to be betrayed or ignored when we came home.
It is strange that many veterans that fought communism are now fighting the tough side of capitalism.....cheap labor and cutthroat economics of this world. The gas prices we see every day are a result of selling capitalism to one of the former communist enemies........how ironic.
Thank yall again for the thank yous you sincerely delivered.......Hire a vet if you can.
Hire a vet before you hire an illegal alien at the very least.

The apparently Bush derangement suffering, KMansfield, joins the Deseret News' headline writer's grab of an opportunity to exploit this soon to be a Great American's temporary plight.

For any actual American (and the accident of one's birthplace and despite that it says otherwise in many millions of US-haters' passports doesn't qualify any to be so designated) knows well that if Sa'id Diyar's bona fides check out his plight is temporary and his future is both assured and secure.

Welcome to America, Sa'id Diyar, My Eyes -- and thank you for your service! Shukran, Aayuni!

Did anyone know anything about this guy before this article? Stop placing blame on people and organizations as if should know everything that is going on in the world and take some action on it. Now that we know we can do something. Now, DO IT!

I served two tours in Iraq with the 5th Marine Division. One tour in Ramadi and one in Fallujah. I want to weigh in here and remind the people against the war that Americans are NOT killing Iraqis. Other Islamic extremists are killing them (some of the Iraqi)! We have rules of engagement and can not fire at anyone unless we are fired upon first or percieve eminate danger! Those of you who think you know so much about the war, I invite you to enlist in the Military (the Marines if you got the guts) and go over and see for yourself before you make judgement calls that make you look foolish and ignorant! God bless America, the greatest nation on the planet! I fear for our country's future, not from terrorists but from enemies from within. I see many of them hiding in the Democratic party! don't you?

This is absolutely not a morman or catholic issue. This man had no choice of where he came in the US.He was assigned to SLC. Please remember the United States declared war on Iraq and the US INVADED his country. Iraq did not ask for any type of military assistance. We invaded Iraq. Diyar made less than 150 bucks a week as a full time translator putting his life in danger each day.How many of you would put your life on the line for less than 600 bucks a month to help the military that INVADED your country? Had he stayed in Iraq after he was injured he would have been killed because he helped the US. He worked as an interpreter to support his mother and siblings. How many US kids would do that? It makes me sick to see how ignorant so many people are to struggles of others. To all those who have true compassion and empathy thank you. And yes please let us pull together to put some pressure on L-3 Communications. They have a responsibility to this man and all others who were injured while working for them.

Sorry to hear of your disappoints my friend, and thanks for your valuable service! Don't expect to be treated any better than US soldiers that are returning wounded from the battlefield, though. They're not exactly getting the Hilton treatment either, trust me.

Hope things work out for you. As a former soldier, I can tell you that when your time is up and the government is done with you, they are DONE with you. Knees in the breeze, so to speak.
U.S. Soldier | 10:20 a.m. June 6, 2008
This man is a HERO. Who cares what country he's from. His sacrifice and willingness to volunteer to help keep YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES safe should put your sorry words to rest. He doesnt want sympathy, he wants respect and to be appreciated for how he risked his life for the good of all mankind! He should be praised and respected for the actions he took not only for his country, BUT FOR OURS! Such a small request for such a huge price to pay for freedon and independence! Shame on all of you who argue about whether or not he is one of ours and if we should take care of him! I am an American Soldier and I believe that American or not, he and so many others fought bravely for us all and they deserve every effort to repay them for their sacrifices!!! Give the respect and gratitude you owe for living in a country where you can whine about soldiers needs being put before your own. WE keep this country safe for you! Pittiful. The day you stand up and fight, is the day you deserve to bitch.

I don't understand, although L-3 may have lost the translation contract, why doesn't he go work for the company that won it?
I see translator gigs all the time on DoD contractor websites, and it can all be done over real time satellite feed, VoIP compressed encrypted channel, standard .mp3 files, or whatnot. He could work from home, or on a military base. I'm sure his personal sacrifice and military connections could get the OPM to fast track his clearance?
