"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
'Nuff said. Still wonder why he ain't appealin' to us Mermans?
Being an excellent public speaker and being able to motivate people is great, IF your message is the right message.
Read Senator Obama's words very carefully and then decide whether his message is your view of America.
When someone tells me he's going to take away from the rich the ability to create jobs that employ the rest of us by letting government seize the money that would normally go to job and business creation, when someone tells me he's going to destroy the stock market by transferring health insurance reserves to the government instead of letting those billions and billions of dollars stay in the stock market, when he says that he's going to solve all military problems by talking to blood thirsty killers who can't wait until a talking head replaces America's mighty military, then I get really, really nervous.
When I read his message, I can plainly see that Senator Obama has given up on America, that he has no faith nor trust in American values, that he thinks that he and he alone can safely lead us to eternal happiness. I believe that we all rejected that message a long, long, long time ago.
No, the LDS believe in self reliance. Obama is a socialist. If he has his way, the Government will take over nearly every aspect of lives.
I've wondered the same thing,
What is Obama's position on abortion?
It takes a big ol heap of soaring rhetoric to get me past the slaughter of millions of innocent children.
What is Obama's position on the sanctity of marriage, preserving the family, granting special rights to those who engage in homosexual behavior?
I haven't heard Obama talk about those issues much. What is he hiding?
Some folks look for a little more than "soul-stirring addresses" hen choosing a President.
For example, experience; also a little experience would help; and then there is the lack of experience; did I mention experience?
Lemming-like? Those of us who are looking for an individual with wisdom, judgement, and experience are not finding it with Obama. That some, such as yourself, appear to be listening to the melodious sounds emanating from someone akin to the Pied Piper seems to be a much more apt analogy.
me a lemming for not voting for a Jimmy Carter second term. Nothing Obama says is new. It has all been tried before and failed. It has been said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Are you insane for wanting Obama?
He does say some impressive things and has very good communications skills. If that's all I were looking for in a presidential candidate, perhaps I would vote for him. However, I also care about a candidate's positions on issues, and on that front he is very different from what I want. In fact, by favoring repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, he is even further left than John Kerry. Also, despite his talk of "change," I'm not convinced that he would change anything or even try to change anything.
Re: Mike Richards -
Change IS the right message.
With an unwinnable war, the economy tanking, the air getting worse and worse, "staying the course" is suicide.
But people living in "Pleasantville" never see the necessity of change. But it happens anyway.
"No, the LDS believe in self reliance. Obama is a socialist".
LDS doctrine is socialist or United Order, or haven't you heard? The doctrine and covenants says, there should be no rich or poor.
The church back when this was church practice, didn't force it with the gun. They enforced it with, "do you want to go to heaven?".
Government redistribution of wealth is wrong only if you believe that the workplace passes out wealth correctly in the first place. If you are correct in believing the CEO making millions, even when he runs the company into the ground, is correct, while the company hires temps to avoid paying health care is correct, then yes government redistribution of wealth is incorrect.
I happen to believe those in power stack the decks in their favor, taking more than they earn and deserve, leaving the rest of us with less than we earn and deserve. Therefore I don't believe that semi socialism or redistribution of wealth is wrong.
What is off-putting to me is the degree of arrogance of the Democrats to constantly barrage us with "if you vote for Obama (in other words: agree with us) then you must be an intelligent free-thinker...if you vote republican you are no better than a slack-jawed sheep wallowing in your own filth waiting for the republicans (or mormons if you like that little twist) to come punch your ballot for you..." If that attitude is indicative of the democratic movement, then I want none of it.
Believe it or not, intelligent, thinking people can have discussions and indeed disagreements without stooping to slanderous/libelous statements like we see constantly from the left. It only reveals the depth of your desperation to be validated as being "right". How pathetic really.
By the way, I wanted to vote for Edwards, mainly as the lesser of all the evils we had to choose from this year, but he dropped out too soon. Now I am probably going to vote independent.
I was having a discussion with a dito head about Obama. He repeated that Obama had hardly any experience. When I pointed out to him that neither did Lincoln, you should have seen the look on his face.
Eric - thanks for your words today. I hope you weren't counting on a lot of agreement from regulars who write here. But I see that some do agree with you and I just wanted to let you know that I agree with you as well. Let's hope that the majority of Americans do the same come November.
So, re Craig, if you don't think the workplace distributes wealth correctly, then having the Government distribute wealth by force would be the preferred alternative? Ever hear of the phrase "two wrongs don't make a right?" or "freedom?"
I go to church and pay tithing. If I decide not to pay, or if I don't pay what the bishop considers my full 10%, I don't have to worry about the Danites showing up at my door and demanding I open my checkbook or else. Just how long can I get away without paying my taxes before the government steps in and confiscates whatever they feel necessary. Being forced to live the United Order, being forced to attend Church, to not watch any of the wrong programs on cable; does that sound like the Lord's plan? And how much of what Obama proposes is voluntary?
Obama sealed the deal for me when he disparagingly referred to some voters clinging to their religion and guns.
Finally, many Book of Mormon characters spoke very impressively, with a fine command of the language, including Nehor, Korihor, and Sherem. It didn't always work out so well for those who followed them, did it?
LDS teachings are that you become self sufficient and help others (of your own free will).
Socialism is that the government takes from you by force and gives to whom it will. Socialism breed dependency, LDS teaches just the opposite.
What exactly is semi-socialism. As long as you make more money? Is it socialism that benefits at least one person? You? Are you aware of how much money the Obamas have? Are they redistributing their wealth voluntarily? Of course not. Charity and the United Order are based on personal charity and goodness. If you hadn't noticed, it didn't work very well in the early days of the Church because the people were not ready for it. And you think that forced charity (i.e. socialism) would work today? After having lived in socialist countries for almost four years, I can tell you that they are not the Utopia that so many people in the US dream they are. Redistribution of wealth has proven time and time again to only favor the few in power. Unless there is righteousness it will not succeed. Look around you. Do you really think every individual American is that good (whether they are LDS, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, or whatever)? Sure we have a lot of good people but we also have a lot of bad people and greedy people. Thus ensuring that socialism would not work.
the church never condoned the government being the agent for the united order. this will happen under the government of Jesus Christ.
also, we know a person by the company he keeps. In obamas case these people include: Tony Rezko, Bill Ayers, Jerimiah Wright and Michael Pfleger. All scumbags to the core. Tell me that Obama doesn't believe the way they do, or break all of the rules the way they do just to achieve a means to an end. Change, change, change!
Change is not a message, it is a slogan.
If you want to change from the current course you have 359 possible other courses (360 degrees in a compass, get it?)
Some change might be slight, some drastic; some for the better, some terribly worse.
Until Obama 'fesses up WHAT change he proposes and HOW ue will effect it he is telling us NOTHING.
Don't but a pig in a poke, my pappy used to say.
Even a pig with lipstick and a wig.
