Ain't it incredible to challenge the odds and finish? Your own personal first place, what an accomplishment. Congratulations.

Great job, Jody. I just ran my first marathon after losing about 25 pounds, but I still weighed 220. Maybe I'll try that triathlon thing.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

Way to go Jody!

Having dropped nearly 60 lbs myself recently I know how hard it can be to hit the gym and just keep moving. But it is so worth it!!

Keep it up!

Great article, Dohboy. Another GOADie inspired. Thanks again for pointing me in the direction of your training program. I have one all picked for June '09.

371???! I would have to gain 200lbs and then a couple pounds on top of that to reach a weight that high! Great job on loosing 145lbs!! That must have been difficult, but rewarding. It looks like you've got just a few more pounds to go, but you're almost there!

When you think about it, it's really not that hard to gain that much weight. I mean, if I was to gain 1 pound every month for the next 16 1/2 years, I'd be right where you were at. That means I could easily weigh 370lbs by the time I'm 34 years old at the 1Lb/month rate. That's only 115 excess calories every day for 16 1/2 years. I guess it just goes to show how a prolonged unhealthy lifestyle can pack away the pounds without you even realizing it.
Dohboy again | 6:45 p.m. June 5, 2008
Yep, Cali Kid, I've got a knack for packing on the pounds and quickly. I advise you not to try to see if your math works out!

Some people have asked me what GOAD is -- it stands for Guys On A Diet. These are my friends from a weight-loss forum.

It's good to see some familiar names on here, too -- hey everyone! Thanks for dropping by and being nice ... send e-mails at jody@desnews.com. See ya at the next race!

Congrat's not-so Big Guy. You are not only one of the funniest people I know you are now one of the most inspirational. Way to go.

There is nothing that feels any better than to finish your first tri. The good thing is you get that same feeling every time you cross that finish line no matter how many you do. I have been doing this sport for about 4 years now and when you are approching the finish line, complete strangers are cheering you on, and they call your name/number over the PA I still get goosebumps and a little teary- eyed. Congrats young man on you accomplishments and welcome to the world of triathlete!

hey jody! i'm heather's blog friend from nz. i shed some tears reading your story. that is truly inspirational and i look forward to following your journey.

i did ONE triathlon 3 years ago - never caught the bug but was pleased to have done it as i'm terrified of the sea.

keep up the great work!
Suzy Chapman | 6:15 p.m. June 10, 2008
Jody, you're AMAZING! I was so touched and inspired by your story. I know Heather must be so proud of you as we all are! Keep up the great work! Get Tom to do the next one with you.
