Comments about ‘Prep all-stars meet in Ogden’

Wow, how the heck did these teams get picked? 4A Teams seem to be all over the map as far as who got picked. 5A seems a little more consistent. Just observation.

How in the world is only one CWood player selected ?
Whats up with that ? And why isn't Hoov coaching one team ? he's the greatest.

No Tyler Hanks or Gentry Mitchell, but Damon Ward? No Ben Doxey?

Remember this is an All-Star game for Seniors only. Also, some players selected, opted not to play for various reasons (vacations, injuries, schedule conflicts). Just because a player isn't on here, doen't mean they weren't selected. The players were selected by the coaches in each classification.

this is the real all-star game. players were picked by the coaches, not someone with an agenda for other summer teams. congrats to all.

Why isn't Jake Murphy from American Fork on the list? He is the best.

I'll put up the D-News/Gates all-star teams against any of these and I guarantee it would be a 10-run mercy rule with the D-News team spanking them..

Three players from the 2nd and 3rd place 5-A teams?? Both were loaded with talented seniors, and three make it. Unbelievable to me!! This is far from real, it is a joke!!

Tyler Hanks Is on The List, Gentry Mitchell was the 1st one from Spanish Fork called. I love to watch that kid play! Mitchell, Ward and Hanks seem to bring the best out each other when they play. Mitchell could not attend the Game this weekend, he was ask to come play a game with Arizona State, (Congrats to him hope it works well for him)

You must be one the guys playing in that D-News/Marshalls game. I won't argue there were good players there for there was. What i AM arguing is that many playing in that game were favorites of those picking. How else could one explain guys with only 19 rbi's making it? or infielders, although signed already, hitting .230 making it? Based on reputation, the D-news team was awesome. Based on what kind of year they had, I think some politics involved. By the way, I was also one of the guys playing in that game and not the one in Ogden

After reading the rosters and seeing that there are a lot of guys from teams that did not make the playoffs or lost out very early, I think this game must have been selected with that in mind.

4A south (One I know best) has 4 guys from the teams in R7 that did not make the playoffs (Provo, Timpview,Tooele,) Is missing some playoff teams best players (Sville's Doxey, Orem's Kallunki,Payson's Ferguson)

I think it's great to give guys a chance to play another game and be in an event like this. Just seems weird that some of the best guys from some teams are on it etc. Maybe each coach selected a couple guys from his team etc??

I have been somewhat close to this game in the past. From what I have heard from the selection committee members, they send out a survey to each coach in 3A, 4A,and 5A asking 1. Who are his best senior players? 2. Nominate other senior players at each position.

From what the committee members say, alot of coaches just plain don't respond. Also, Robles blew off the game last year which left a bad taste in their mouth. Other kids have elected not to play due to draft status, etc. but at least they show up and participate.
If there is a team that doesn't have a player represented, it is becaues his coach didn't respond to the ballot. They try to get at least one kid from each school.

I watched both all star games, and this one was better. The offense was spectacular, and the TRUE stars were able to come out and show some great baseball. Congrats to all the players, great game

Those of us the watch and are around baseball all year have to wonder also how some got picked in both games. Whether it be the Marshall contest or the Sate All Star game. But isn'e it nice that other get a little prime time also.

One player from the 4A State Championship out of 6 seniors? Thomas is good, and has every right to be there, but the 5 other starting seniors on CWoods team were outstanding as well.

Just because a team doesn't make the playoffs, doesn't mean there aren't good athletes on the team. Every good player can't be picked so just deal with it.

Players can be selected to play if their coach submits their name and makes a few phone calls. It's easy. Lots of teams and coaches dont really bother to have their players play. It's not politics or based on whose the best really. A coach can get his players on there if he just asks pretty much. I know, I am an assistant coach in SLC

maybe only one player got picked from cottonwood cuz you have to live within the schools boundries to be picked

maybe only one player from cottonwood was picked cuz they try to pick players that actually go to the school where they are in the boundries for..
