The Cap-And-Trade program will be a huge windfall for that "private-public entity." This group of environmental capitalists will have the power to choke any industry it wishes by simply denying or delaying the issuance of carbon credits. All the while it will rake in billions in profits from "brokering' the carbon exchange.
Is it any wonder why Gore and his associates are spending $300 million in their Global Warming campaign? Is it any wonder why prominent Republicans are joining in his ad campaign?
And none of it is actually designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Oh, Mr. Will? Don't worry about that "carbon tax." Governor Huntsman and his good buddy Arnold already have it covered. Their WCI panel has plans of its own, which is looking to be $25 per ton of carbon.
What will this tax mean for the consumer? Well, you're going to see a new tax on your electric bill that will increase it by 27%. Your heating bill will increase 17% and there will be another $0.22 added to a gallon of gas. All of which is intended to force us to turn off our lights, lower our thermostates, and minimize our driving . . . as if we haven't already done that.
I wonder what the government is going to do with its newfound wealth?
Another excellent article by George Will.
This hysteria-driven instrusion of the government into private enterprise will be, as almost all others have been, a disaster.
This country gets scarier every day. Why is it that JFK and Bobby Kennedy were 10x more conservative than the average Republican today (eg John McCAin or George Bush)? We may as well vote for a Democrat President and then maybe the so called Republicans in Congress would fight this big government nonsense instead of forcing more of it onto us.
I have a great idea .... why don't our legislators and President be required to read the Constitution and pass a test on it? I am so tired of the central planners in Washington .... the Federal Government is out of control.... at least the Supreme Court seems to be making some decent decisions lately
There will be no carbon tax. There will be no cap and trade. The rising cost and increasing scarcity of hydrocarbon fuels will cause us to meet the most ambitious carbon reduction goals simply through lack of affordable fuel. It's not merely our oil that's in trouble.
Google "Peak Oil" "Peak Coal" "Peak Natural Gas"
One beneficiary will be UTA. Already the junk math is being cooked to make it look like they remove a lot of CO2 and therefore deserve to receive money for credits they could sell to others.
Of course this is from money the public already shelled out for the UTA bus-rail-transit empire which is now abuilding.
Actually transit does very little to prevent CO2 from entering the air. A major study released last year by the american Public TRansit Asn. showed all transit in America only prevents as much CO2, NET, as a single nuclear power plant. The study was done by a respected scientific group, SAIC.
As things go, this scam will be another big paycheck for UTA and likely mean more big bonuses for its overpaid and overbonused managers.
