McCain, by himself, is bad, and would be a disaster to this country. Romney, by himself, is bad, and would be a disaster to this country. The two of them together would be a catastrophy. We do NOT need either of them, and especially not as a (political) couple.

McCain will never pick Mitt Romney, his Mom won't allow it.
MoJules | 7:06 p.m. May 31, 2008
Really don't like McCain, let me say it this way, I like him better than Obama and less than Clinton, never thought I would say that. I do like Romney, not perfect mind you, he would make the republican ticket not stink as bad, but with McCain on it, it stinks. McCain is using Romney and Romney is using McCain and both will get further because of it. The Republican party is really getting destroyed and if Clinton were the Democrat, I would vote for her, don't like her, hate Obama, he is evil and I can't stand McCain. Pretty sad for we Republicans, there are three wolves in sheep's clothing, one is a Democrat in Republican's clothing.

I love Romney's religion, but I hate his politics (especially where Foreign Policy is concerned). While I'm not going to vote for McCain anyway, this is one Utah Mormon who is even less likely to vote for him if his running mate is Mitt Romney.
where are the good candidates? | 8:08 p.m. May 31, 2008
Romney is one of the few candidates who seemed to be sincere. Ron Paul was another, but too bad the media never took him seriously - unfortunately the media makes up our minds for us (maybe just 80 to 90 percent of us anyways). I think it would be best for Romney to sit this election out as the odds in Vegas are almost 2 to 1 for the democrats winning. Romney has to wait just 4 years and after the democratic presidency and congress sink the american economy and screw up the affairs in the middle east even worse than they are now, the Republican nominee would be a shoe-in for president (as long as its not an unlikable person like mccain :) )

I'M GONNA SAY IT AGAIN.ROMNEY IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR MCCAIN.HUCKLEBERRY HUCKABEE SCARES TOO MANY PEOPLE AND GOV.HUNTSMAN IS NOT WELL KNOWN ENOUGH.THIS CONSERVATIVE,LIFELONG MORMON WHOSE FAMILY GOES BACK TO THE VERY BEGINNINGS OF THE LDS CHURCH ISN'T SAYING THIS BECAUSE ROMNEY'S LDS.I'M BACKING THE MAN,WHO HAS PROVEN TO BE THE REAL DEAL.

McCain and Romney have a new theme song - This ain't no rag it's a flag - And we don't wear it on our heads - It's a symbol of the land where the good guys live - Are you listening to what I said - You're a coward and a fool - And you broke all of the rules - And you wounded our American pride - And now we're coming with a gun - And we know you're gonna run - But you can't find no place to hide - We're gonna hunt you down like a mad dog hound - Make you pay for the live you stole -We're all through talking and a messing around - And now it's time to rock and roll - Like 2 peas in one pod.

The American people were given their chance to vote for at least two very virtuous and decent men in the Republican race and rejected both. I should have paid more attention to Ron Paul earlier. I would have voted for him in the Primary--he has purer "LDS" ideal proven record in his politics (but may have had less Adversarial Opposition)than Br. Romney seems to have managed, though growing up in lefty, mafia Michigan and then mad Massachusetts political worlds may have given Br. Romney expediency outlook to some extent. If so he'll be forgiven. You can only lead people as far as they are willing. Those states are rather overwhelmed with the unwilling. Trying to be the Old testament style "10 in a city to save it from destruction" is harder than I think many native or lifelong Utahns realize. Your ancestors didn't manage to keep LDS education or the law of consecration, nor even control of local SLC government... so don't complain so loud at the what the rest of us try to accomplish in the political world. Go donate to the National Center For Constitutional Studies, Southern Virginia University, Club For Growth, Young America's Foundation. Do something.

to Where are the good Candidates: Bob Barr Libertarian nominee and Ron Paul still running for Republican nominee, and Romney is gone. I hope helping McCain is not like the alliances of Solomon with his later wives..... Most of us have had our primary chances/caucus chances. We just have to vote, we can't necessarily win. We must fast and pray the skunks get less than 51% and we don't hit the when the voice of the people choose....then you know who are ripe for.... criteria or we will GET IT!
Medfield vs. Rutland | 9:54 p.m. May 31, 2008
Romney would not be a good choice for VP--nor should he accept if offered the post. John McCain will not make a good president, but no matter, he will never get the chance to prove this assertion wrong. Obama will win in November.

Mitt is just doing due diligence to the process in order to stay viable for four years from now. His suspending his candidacy, public announcement of support for McCain, and now fundraising on McCain's behalf all look good to the Republican hierarchy because he is going out of his way (above and beyond, really) to keep bridges from burning and the ber conservatives happy.

No, McCain should pick the Huckster as veep so they can both go down in a fiery ball of political futility--losing so bad that neither will be a serious contender four years from now.

McCain and Abel 08 Now theres a slick bumper sticker for gun-toting Republicans.

Terri Dance Salisbury Missouri | 10:07 p.m. May 31, 2008
I love the Mccain and Abel bumper sticker idea--fits right in with all the whisper campaign anti...political sermon cds I got in the mail until Romney suspended. It's rude to real Abel, though!

Personally I would like to see Romney as VP but I think McCain would have a better shot at defeating Obama with either Condi Rice or the governor of Louisiana as running mate. I personally fear an Obama presidency and want the Republican ticket to be moderate enough to attract some of the Democratic voters. OK I know Condi isn't moderate but she has the advantage of being an African American woman, which may sipher some votes from Obama. I think Romney should wait it out another four years.

And to the guy who said Mormons are devil worshippers, Prove it, I pray to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ.

From where I sit, we need someone for President who is honest, informed, capable, upfront, loyal, moral, and who is really good with numbers. I say we take him however we can get him---Romney would make a great VP for McCain although it would take a great deal of grace on his part to make it work. Plus, don't forget the turn around in Massachusetts.
I will say this though---my grandpa sat beside McCain about 30 years ago on a flight to Phoenix. Pop liked him so I guess I'll cast my vote there, too!

And Hillary and Barack know what it is like to live from paycheck to paycheck?
Keiji Hado | 1:23 a.m. June 1, 2008
I think Governor Mitt Romney would be an excellant choice for Senator John McCain, but I don't think Gov. Romney needs the slot to be positioned well for another presidential run. Having already run once with almost as many popular votes as McCain through most of the early races and the Political Action Comittee he is starting, (Which is formed to help raise election funds for Sen. McCain and legislative candidates with similar conservative ties as Romney), and ties to many conservative groups from the last election will be a great start.

Wow...reading these comments is like trying to swim in quicksand...so much nay-saying, double-sided hype, and winded speculation. There is a process...even if at times sometimes flawed by human character, human nature, and political verities...and it will play out with little input from the people themselves until the final hour...voting day...then there will only be two choices...one winner...and in either case it will not be the people.
But, the people will continue to make to the real difference...the nation will continue on despite who ends up occupying the political seats...just hoping those in those seats don't pull the rug out.
Losing Liberty | 11:16 a.m. June 1, 2008
Democrats and Republicans are two-sides of the same coin. Republican party has been controlled by the Neo-Cons for years. Their main goal is to destroy are constitution, and the creation of a Uber-National Government. Just look at the "Police State" that has been created since 2001, wire-taps, electronic surveillance of all internet traffic, etc. The government has created the fear of terrorist state, climate-change, etc. To get the people to give up there liberties and freedom in the name of "Security". Voting for either of the Main Stream Candidates will ensure continued a loss of freedom. The only honest candidate was Ron Paul, but the Main Stream Media virtually silenced him in the debates. Indicating that the only candidates to vote for are the "Ones" annotated by the State. "Don't look behind the facade that the candidates are wearing", you might found out everything is smoke and mirrors.

I completely missed when Boston, Grand Rapids or Jacksonville became parts of Utah. Might be worth looking around before posting.

You have to be joking, Mitt Romney as VP on McCain's or anyone elses ticket would be a disaster. The American People right now are not ready for another Republican President much less one with a weathy Mormon on the ticket. Romney couldn't win on his own no matter how much money he spent or how smart you think he is, his own campaign was a disaster for the Republican party so why would he be a help to McCain?
The times they are a changen, Obama will be the next President. Hillary doesn't have enough money to run an independent campaign even if she was willing to continue to let herself be beat down, I don't think even she could take the stress.
Theo | 5:02 p.m. June 1, 2008
Why is it that so many Mormons intepret disrespect for your religion as hatred for you as people?

You couldn't be more wrong.

Indiana | 8:40 p.m. June 1, 2008
Mitt for America... and if being VP is how he can prove his love for this great country, then so be it...

Go Mitt!
Lynn | 8:45 p.m. June 1, 2008
Theo: When disrespect for our religion takes the form of public protests outside our Temples, at our General Conferences, and even at funerals for Mormon military personnel, we take it personally. When anti-Mormons invaded You Tube sites that were set up to mourn President Hinckley's passing, I took it as a personal attack, especially when some of those anti-Mormons invaded my personal e-mail, and accused me of devil worship, worshiping a false Christ, etc. When anti-Mormonism is taught in classes, and from the pulpits of Southern Evangelical churches, it sounds like hate to me. When people arrogantly claim to know more about our religion than we, who actually live our religion, do, and refuse to listen to us when we tell them what we believe, and would rather listen to anti-Mormon lies , then, it again sounds like hatred, bigotry, and willful ignorance.

Attack my religion, and it's an attack against me, because my religion is so much a part of who I am. Mormonism is not just a Sunday religion, it is the center of our lives. We are covenanted to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, and as witnesses to the gospel, every day, until we die.
Indiana | 10:12 p.m. June 1, 2008
Lynn, thank you very much for your wonderful comments. You said what I would say and I thank you for it. Hate and persecution are personal and they are ugly. There is no love in those souls. Perhaps your words will serve to remind those that are capable of being reminded. Again bravo and think you... It is sad that so many that could really make sweet use of this gospel reject if for so little reason. It is true you know. Joseph Smith was and is a prophet and so is President Monson and all in between them...

I agree with Mr. Johnson. A Romney-McCain ticket would get my attention. Although I don't care much for any of the current choices, adding Mitt Romney to the mix would make up for some of the short-falls of McCain.

Great idea. Who do we Email to get the ball rolling on this idea?

Romney's type of economic experience is NOT what this nation needs at this time. He is rich and privileged and his business interests are not on par with small business needs this nation is in a crisis need for.

His business interests are based on corporate welfare and are part of the infectious corporate socialism that is killing small business across this nation. Romney definitely is out of touch with this type of business sector, both as to his thinking and 'vast' experience.

Sadly, it's difficult for small businessmen to run for congress or make a run for the highest office in the country simply because they are not part of the corporate welfare system that feeds the wealthy and privileged at the expense of the small business owners and working middle class American, therefore 'real' business needs in a true free market principle (as espoused by Adam Smith) is currently not possible given the stranglehold big business and the rich have on politics and the economy.

Lobbyist going from 14,000 to over 40,000 since Bush took office... and Romney being a strong supporter of Bush... well... go figure!

Romney will only promote more corporate socialsim that kills small-business.

The right one will save ourhides for a few more yers. The other one will bring us to our knees.]]

You're right. That's why it's imperative that we vote AGAINST McCain. He would be a disaster. If he added Romney as VP, it would be an unmitigated disaster. One or the other is bad enough. The two of them together would be horrendous.
Romney = loss | 8:27 a.m. June 2, 2008
Are all of you folks already forgetting how many lies Mitt Romney was caught in? How many positions he shifted in order to win elections? Nobody trusts Romney because Romney doesn't hold any convictions beyond election platforms...he has proven that time and time again.
If you're pro gay/anti gay, pro gun/anti gun, pro life/pro choice, hunter/not hunter, civil rights marcher/not civil rights marcher, or if you for some reason believe that 'fixing the Olympics' (?) is training for being POTUS, Romney is clearly your man.
The rest of us do not trust him, and that is HIS fault. He's like a male, Republican version of Hillary Clinton. McCain is not going to pick Romney for a running mate...he wants to win. He will be glad to collect money from the folks on Romney's rolodex, however.
Indiana | 10:29 a.m. June 2, 2008
To Romney=loss:

You could not be more wrong about Mitt Romney. Where is it written that a person cannot change their opinions for the better? Mitt saw that some of his ideas were wrong and changed them, it is as pure and simple as that. He has voted steadily for the last several years in favor of marriage and life. He worked hard in Mass to preserve marriage as between a man and woman. He has worked against abortion almost tirelessly.

oh, and the MLK thing? A whole bunch of evidence turned up about his dad being with MLK in Michigan when he came there and being in a very passive albeit small demonstration. Did you ever hear of see that evidence? No and why not? Because the media did not want you to see it. They refused to air any of it because they picked their favorites and the most conservative one there was not it.

I hope you will take a better look at the man who could and would do alot for this nation.

I bet if you looked at your life, you would see some less-than-honest moments. Perhaps it is time for some old fashioned introspection.
Steve Nielsen | 11:26 a.m. June 2, 2008
Thanks to the anti-Mormon hate monger from Arkansas, Huckelbee, we are left to choose our president from three liberals. Thanks Huck!

Well said Steve Nielsen
re: Indiana | 3:04 p.m. June 2, 2008
"...I bet if you looked at your life, you would see some less-than-honest moments. Perhaps it is time for some old fashioned introspection..."

Yes, I can honestly admit that I've had my moments in life. But I can just as honestly tell you that I don't change my principles each time I run for a different office. And when I am wrong, I admit to being wrong, rather than employing a team of spin doctors to 'fix it' for me.

What about the "life-long hunter" lie? I could care less if he is a life-long hunter or not...what I care about is his lying. What about his promise that he 'wasn't going to be vice-president to John McCain..that isn't going to happen." back in Feb.? I'm not seeing a pattern of honesty with Romney. He simply does not pass my 'gut test'. Something is rotten in Denmark with this guy, and every time I hear him speak, I feel the same way.

"...Thanks to the anti-Mormon hate monger from Arkansas, Huckelbee, we are left to choose our president from three liberals. Thanks Huck!..."

I must have missed something; how was Huckabee a 'hate-monger'? Because he disagreed with you?

How is it when LDS folks disagree with others, it is because they are 'the only true church on earth', and when people of other faiths disagree with them, they are 'hate mongerers' or 'bigots' or 'etc'.? I have never understood this.

Mccain-Huckabee | 4:46 p.m. June 2, 2008
I want to see a Mccain-Huckabee ticket.

Republicans can't win this November so I'd like to see those two be the ones with their names on the losing ticket. No VP candidate can redeem the republican party after George W. Bush. At least this way we'd never had to hear from these two again.

Can't be.... | 10:01 a.m. June 3, 2008

Mitt Romney won. It would take more than a line to tell how. There was foul play to knock him off the ticket. The good ol' boys in Washington don't want him there to clean up Washington. And "we the people" fell for it, and threw the baby out with the bath water. Now look to see who's left running. Senators in Washington with their promises to change Washington.
glenda | 10:35 p.m. June 3, 2008
Wolfs in sheep clothing have taken over our White House. The so called democrats have robed billions of dollars from us and is now robing us of our businesses and jobs with their global warming propaganda machine to put us under globalization a new name for communism. There are some good Republicians fighting for our freedom to capitalize. The coms. have taken over the democrat party. Study the Senators' records before voting for them.
