BYU took more than just a QB

Needs change | 8:32 a.m. May 30, 2008
Riley didn't do anything wrong. The BYU coaches didn't do anything wrong. And yet, something still *feels* wrong. I still think a rule needs to be changed with the NCAA in regards to which school you're committed to if you leave after enrolling. When a kid goes on a mission it's fine if they stop their eligibility clock from running, but the kid should stay committed to the school he attended under scholarship. If he leaves that school he should lose one year eligibility just as if he transfered without going on a mission.

I would have left too. The opportunities at USU are just too sparse. Having gone to USU and roomed with football players I understand that the coaching and athletic staff are inadequate and don't have necessary support from USU administration. This isn't to say that I am an expert of any kind, but I would have chosen a more professional and developed program like BYU myself.
What do I know | 1:29 p.m. May 30, 2008
Athletically, he probably made a good choice in switching as much as I wanted him to stay. But I cant blame him for bettering himself. BYU is clearly the better program in football and any kid that is used to winning wants to keep winning.
I do agree with the poster from 7:27 A.M. that something smells a little foul. What? I dont know. But then again it is not basketball and I am not too worried. He wasnt going to win 8 games by himself.
Once basketball comes around we have a little more room to talk since we are the premier team in the state over the last 10 years. Go Stu, Go Aggies!!!

I have a idea... The MWC should Add Boise State and Fresno and Nevada and the rest of the want a bee Wac offs should go play I-AA with the Big Sky. Lets get real... Utah state football is a past, history, sad to be gone. But they might as well go play in the place they can be competitive.

They will never ever recover from the Sun Belt Big West mess and the WAC left them out till the end when it was already all but dead. If you take out Hawaii all you have left is the old big west anyway and higher end Big sky teams anyway.

Weber State should Cancel Football . Its program is a joke.

Utah state should cancel football. Both are a joke and will never be good anyway.

Utah state needs to get a good coach and give him some time. Every time they get someone they can him after 3-4 years and they make him play Nebraska, and all the great teams. Try a Rainbow Warrior Schedule. You might go 3-7..

I really would like to see both USU and WSU do better, but its looks very grim...

"BYU didn't just take the Aggies' quarterback of the future, it took their spirit." - Please, nobody cares about this. He didn't help us will all that many games when he was hear, we aren't going to lose many because he is gone (although lets face it, we are going to lose just about all of them). This article is a sad example of someone trying to write about something he really knows nothing about.

Riley Nelson is an idiot plain and simple. Lets go to a school where he will probably only start his senior year since Hall is only a Junior and he redshirted his freshmen year. Had he stayed at Utah State he would have started all four years. He just traded in a starting job for a benchwarming position. I guess he was dropped on his head as a kid or something.

we watched byu DOMINATE!?!? ucla? , a lineman was lucky enough to get his fingers in the way of a very low kick and you call that dominating? as far as i'm concerned BYU steals ideas and calls it inspiration, the kid made a good choice, but he's going to deal with a very inexpierence offensive coordinator, who decides to run the ball on the 5 yard line with less then a minute, then to take a knee, so let's see how far he goes with that...

Tyler...wow you really need to get with the program. Weber State actually has a PRETTY GOOD program. They are getting better and are expected to have a shot at the Big Sky Championship this year. Maybe you should do your research before you start critisizing.

Weberguy,

I have season tickets to Weber Suck State... Might win the title in 20 years is a better word. Even if they get close.. Which they wont. Montana, Montana State and Eastern are always better and always will be. And did we crack 10,000 at a game last year.. Heck no.

So I do know what I am talking about. Weber State should have canned football and keep Ron A in basketball and never hired that corn hole on the mtn.

Has everyone who's so rashly stated that the BYU creamery is better, ever had Aggie Ice Cream?!?!
Zewbie | 12:12 p.m. June 3, 2008
The cougs are ridiculas. The fans think they are soooo good and claim to be a national power house but the cougs don't even register on the national scale! And the quaterback program everyone talks about is not the same one that was around when the good qbs were playing for byu (young Mcmahon etc.) Who was there last QB to do well in the NFL....zoobies best is John Beck. he is nothing compared to Alex Smith. Zewbie fans can continue to dream that they are something, but alas they are nothing!
BIg Deal | 5:24 p.m. June 14, 2008
Riley Jensen can't throw the ball more than 20 yards down field anyway. If you don't believe me get a tape of his game at Lousiana Tech. He is pathetic I don't see it as a loss at all. He will never see action as a QB at BYU anyway. The Ags need a coach that will bring back the forward pass. Not 20 passes a game 15 if which are 3 yard dinks and dunks. Good riddance. Get a new coach and then just go grab some JC QB's with big arms and start throwing the ball again.

The BYU offence changed for Mr. Doman. The BYU offense changed for Steve Young. Bronco is not
so set with the offense that he would not change
it a bit for a very talented QB who can run. Putting in 10 more QB running plays per game would
be 10 times what BYU has now. The key to this conversation is how talent is coming to BYU. My is it not cool to watch "A 3rd tier talent team(USC Band Wagon Post)" like BYU finish ranked 15th and 14th (11-2 11-2) over the past two seasons. Maybe they'll move even higher in the national rankings now that more and more talent comes to Provo. Remember too the kid was a Parade All American. Conclusion: The Kid has massive talent! BYU has not lost a MWC football game since the 2005 season! That's quite the run in any conference anywhere.
GO SOLID COUGS! Keep it Rolling Bronco! WOW!
