Would anyone happen to know when and how these ladies were selected to play in these All-star games?
Was this a Deseret News sponsored event?
Who were the coaches?

Thanks to anyone for a response.

Re: Interested party

The way I understand it, coaches can nominate their own senior players and the names are voted on by the other coaches in the classification. The event is sponsored by the Softball Coaches Association. The coach for each classification is the Coach of the Year for that respective classification. That award is also voted on by the other coaches. If the coach of the championship team is not voted coach of the year, they are usually invited to coach along with the coach of the year.

Players (seniors only) are nominated by their coach or other coaches. Then they are voted on by the all coaches. Teams are coached by the classification coach of the year an the coach of the state champion. Event was sponsored by the High School Coaches association.

Being a coach of softball and volleyball I hope you were being positive about your comments. I feel that the way softball runs their all star game is very fair. Who better to pick the team then the coaches from the regions and classifications. It is done exactly as interested replied..

Smart Girls Lovin' Softball

There are two 4-A Allstars from Snow Canyon (St. George) who had to choose between the All Star game and their high school graduation. Both of these girls were also chosen for the Academic Allstate awards. They have worked hard through-out their lives to be the best at both - grades and softball. Why should they have to choose? Couldn't the game have been played early in June?

I'm glad to see the girls represented in each classification, but be a little more fair when choosing the teams. 3A is a great squad, but there are many other girls who should have been chosen as well. I think they should do 5A-1A North and South teams and have each other play against each other. That would make it more fair for other girls (regardless if they made the state tournement or not) a chance to be looked at. Be fair, just don't pick from the teams who made the top 3 or top 4.

No negative vibes here, just curious as to what happens behind the scenes of these games. Thanks for the responses.

re: Sliders win!

WOO HOO!!!! GO SLIDER NATION!!!!!!!!!

All Star player

For anonymous!!! I played in the state championship, and I know all the girls in my classification. There were 13 girl on our all star team that did not make it into the top 4. There were girls from almost every school. I think its only fair that your own coaches pick you to be there, there for you be mad at your coach if your not picked not the association. You put your hard work and effort into practice and playing everyday and other coaches do not see that. Your coach is more than qualified to pick the players on the all star team.

I'm so proud of you Steph. I'm so lucky to know you. Your one of the best players. I enjoyed watching you play
