It saddens me that we are not seeing this for what it really is. Innocent children being brought up and educated by ignorant adults. Unfortunately most of these ignorant adults are a product of the same process. We see this same ignorance in different versions across our nation not just FLDS. The statement that Warren Jeffs is "perfect" scares me most. We all know none of us are perfect, but these children are being taught that a mere mortal man is. I put these so-called leaders (prophets) in the same category as David Koresh and Manson. One thing we should never forget is that our constitution does not just protect adults. Our children....these children get to choose their future. Choose how they want to worship, who they will marry and if and when they want to have sex and babies. Making these choices for them before they are old enough to decide for themselves is wrong and should be considered illegal whether they are FLDS or not.

Probably a little late with this comment, but honestly it's their church leader, not their church members. If we acted on things like this then Catholic families that had pedophile priest should have their kids taken away since it was their leader that abused a child. That logic makes no sense for the Catholics or FLDS.
mom of 5 | 5:22 p.m. May 27, 2008
I am not Catholic, but I don't think the priest or church was preaching to the congregation that being a pedophile should be practiced by all Catholics and would get you a better spot in heaven. Although the victims of both situations are the same, the practice is different. If the parents of those children abused by the priest knew about it and condoned what was happening they would be just as guilty as the FLDS parents that allow their children to be abused. The parents should be made accountable for the abuses they allow to happen to their children right along with the abusers.

All I can say is we just want them OUT of TX. Apparently Utah didn't want the FDLS cult in Utah because you put Jeffs in prison. It's apparent that Dan Jessop and his young wife (I still believe they have fabricated her age. I think she's not a day older than 16) follow Warren Jeffs 100%. Louisa even stated he was perfect to her. I find him disgusting and he is in prison for his crimes. Yes there is inner city pregnancy of teens, but it is not an arrangement that is condoned by the adults as it is in the FLDS cult. I just want them to leave TX and go back to Utah where it's acceptable.
Please God! | 6:10 p.m. May 27, 2008
Save all those kids from these nasty men. I hope Texas protects them from all of these FLDS men. Our father in heaven will deal with all of them.

if you go to the smoking gun website and click on archives and 'kiss of jeffs' you can see more pictures. She's definitely twelve. And her hands aren't that big-- its a shadow because that is a low quality copy!

Its simple mind control on a huge level.
These folks are "home" schooled and/or self-educated.
If they had further education the trance could be broken. It is all they know. The simple facts they have been brainwashed to believe is that the outside world is evil, and they are the only ones that will go to heaven when they die. They are sweet to each other and it is normal to have sex with cousins and uncles when you are 12 or 13. This is "normal" to them. They are probably taught to look forward to nothing else but sex whenever their realative wants it. This certainly is not what God intended for marriage. What a mess! Seems Texas waited way too long to fix this mess and it will take generations of solid education of these children in American homes (though they could be educated anywhere really) to start seeing some changes. The control is so strong that mothers are willing to leave their children to stay on the ranch! They are taught to avoid honest answers to authorties questions. They can re-learn if they want to. If the maternal/ paternal bond is strong enough. CPS is doing good.
Sarah Kimball | 6:20 p.m. May 27, 2008
They are only practicing the TRUE beliefs of the Mormons. This is what Joseph Smith would've wanted...plural marriages, young girls abused, and children who don't know who their parents are. That was his style, and the current church is so embarrassed that they have modified what he taught.
Musing in Missouri | 6:26 p.m. May 27, 2008
Frankly, I agree that there will not be a man kissing my 14 year old daughter like the man in the picture... however; I still cannot see one bit of evidence that condones the state taking those children from their mother's. Someone has dropped the ball on this one. Also, it concerns me that the state felt it had the "right" to separate families. If there was true sexual misconduct or physical/sexual abuse and actual PROOF of it, then go for it... but apparently someone in the state/government level has the "I am God" syndrome. Show some concrete proof... until then... PUT THE CHILDREN BACK WITH THEIR MOTHER'S, at the very least!!!
Just Me | 6:31 p.m. May 27, 2008
As a mother I see the immediate threat to ALL the children. It is not just the act of physical abuse, but of mental abuse as well. These children are groomed from DAY 1 to accept these abuses as normal and right. It doesn't matter if they are 3 yrs old or 18, they are learning that men can marry and have sex with girls (who should be accepting) at an age that IS against the law. The mental abuse IS immediate and ONGOING. The state needs to fight and I believe they are TOTALY correct for doing this. I believe these pictures we are now seeing shows the leader of this group and therefore does pertain to EVERY case because they all follow this man to the letter, every word he says. If they won't denounce his beliefs they are following them and that means every child there was in danger of mental abuse every day.

grossed out | 6:32 p.m. May 27, 2008
How in the world can a woman not know the people she was living with or where she was living? Are these women (really children) so completely brainwashed that they don't know anything except how to make babies from the age of about 12 on? The never-ending "I don't knows" blows my mind. These females don't seem to know anything about anything! A brainwashed mind is a terrible thing to waste!!!
Sarah Kimball...you are | 6:35 p.m. May 27, 2008
terribly out of line to say something so horrible. And to lie on top of it all. Don't you have anything better to do then spew falsehoods? You're comment below is right on! NOT!!!

"They are only practicing the TRUE beliefs of the Mormons. This is what Joseph Smith would've wanted...plural marriages, young girls abused, and children who don't know who their parents are. That was his style, and the current church is so embarrassed that they have modified what he taught."

CPS will stop at NOTHING to get Federal money and they will stop at nothing to destroy what they hate. They do it with lies, innuendo, evidence fabrication, and omission of the truth. I do not believe anything CPS says or does because their only goal is to destroy what they don't understand or dislike - whether it is a religion that they say is "weird" or a family that believes in corporal punishment.
There are hundreds of thousands of stories on the internet about CPS corruption. It is recognized and has been identified on the floor of Congress at the state and federal levels.
It is time this corrupt organization collapse under their own greed and self-rightousness.
God Bless the Children | 7:10 p.m. May 27, 2008
I am shocked at the comments suggesting a father and daugther would kiss that way - with tongue. Disgusting stupid people. These children need protecting. Just because you have a child does not mean you do whatever you want with them. Lord only knows what these children have experienced. I watched the Warren Jeffs trial and I must say, may he rot in jail. I hope CPS gets to the bottom of this Sect. Louisa's answers were so evasive - isn't that how they are trained (lack of better word)? They are hidding something - duh, child brides. This is all they know so they do not feel they are doing anything wrong even though they are. People let CPS do their job and leave your own personal experiences out of the picture. This group, in my opinion, abuses children. How can they not finish school? In my state, it's the law until you're 17. This is so sad, I shall pray for them all.
Confused | 7:18 p.m. May 27, 2008
Some of you people are deranged. To in any way justify these kinds of acts is absurd. The people from this cult are sick, and in the best interests of the children these hearings need to take place. They undoubtedly saw more than they will ever share, and are privvy to vital and sickening information. I think the children are at risk living with those confused sickos one day furthur.

Katie | 7:53 p.m. May 27, 2008
I just finished reading the book about the 14 year old being forced to marry her 19 year old cousin and I highly suggest that those on here who are picking apart the CPS read this book.

These people control women claiming they'll be forever damned to hell unless they give themselves to their husbands "mind, body and soul." If they become "damned" by the church they're cut off from contact from their families and if a woman's husband is forced out she is "reassigned" to another man via the "prophet's revelation".

It's beyond appalling what these people are doing to these children, and its sickening that they've been conditioned to lie about it. It sickens me that these teenage girls have been forced to have sex with older men, and bear their children.

Shame on the FLDS for manipulating these people, especially the children! My heart goes out to them and to Elissa Wall, the author of Stolen Innocence.
James | 7:56 p.m. May 27, 2008
ANYONE who has posted on this site and defended the FLDS/Jeffs is either a pedofile or worse - someone who will NOT defend the rights of children because of their moronic conspiracy theories of the state government and/or CPS. No further postings trying to negate either of these observations will make them less true.

CPS please save these young girls from the arms of these old men who are sexually abusing them.
Taylor | 8:38 p.m. May 27, 2008
One thing most people don't know is that an FLDS man is not allowed to have sex with a pregnant wife. This was told to me by a man who left the FLDS group as a teen and still has family who are polygamists. He says the driving force is not sex, but the belief in polygamy itself. Some of you scream that the girls are being raped, etc., but these people see themselves as married in the sight of God. Most of the young girls see these marriages as a privilege. I don't agree with it, but I don't see pregnant teens outside of FLDS being dragged out of their homes and their babies taken away. The average teenage girls probably have more sex than the polygamist girls. And by the way, the FLDS don't get on computers and read the news so believe me, they are not making any comments. I live where I see these people daily and they are very meek. Warren Jeffs has been very bad for them. They used to be friendlier before he told them we were evil and not to have anything to do with us. My heart goes out to them.
Look at the facts | 8:39 p.m. May 27, 2008
This is a really tough situation. One side you have a group of people hiding behind thier religion. They have been tought thier whole life that the people "outside" are bad and will only do them harm. If they don't do as the 'prophet" commands they WILL go to hell...so theoretically they are threatend with thier life...or thier salvation. Remember they (FLDS) are taught the world is wrong and corrupt...which may or may not be true...but isn't plural marriage? Sex with an underage girl given concent or not? What if the parents did give concent to the "marriage" these older men have more than one wife. They can't do it "legally" Do you research. The FLDS are smarter than they appear or at least thier lawyers and hierarchy. They do believe that marrying a 14 year old is right and the "world" is wrong. They are hiding behind thier religous beliefs. But because this is America...they have rights...like it or not. AND we as Americans need to uphold the constitution! The state of Texas needs to realize that and find another angle to break through this corrupt religion. Don't comprimise our constitution to get your way.
Lydia | 8:39 p.m. May 27, 2008
Hey guys! Rampant abuse was taking place in the YFZ compound. The children didn't even know what crayons are for! Even the most impoverished ghetto or barrio child knows what a crayon is for!

Something is terribly wrong with an AMERICAN sub culture that does not allow a child to be a child. If nothing else, the children need to live their childhoods as children, not minature adults.

Where are the boys aged 13 - 18? Why are there more than twice the teenaged girls than boys? Something very wrong there too!

Texas did the right thing. The WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING you Monster Merrill Jessop and your Mormon mafiaoso! Your "families" aren't normal at all and all your spin isn't going to work!
Female Utah resident | 8:43 p.m. May 27, 2008
After reading quite a few comments listed above. It is apparent most of you are unaware of the polygamous sects in Utah. It is not uncommon at all to see very young girls with their Husbands who are visibly older (20+ years) shopping because it is "Their day to shop with the Husband". I agree there should be freedom of religion, but under what conditions do you believe these girls marry men who are many years older than them. Do you really believe these girls are not coerced or forced to marry them. What 14 year old girl has a crush on Richard Gere? I would venture a guess not very many. Let's get real here. There is and historically always has been rampant abuse among these polygamous sects, and there will continue to be until we as a people no longer condone it. Was the answer to rip the children from their mother's arms? Probably not, but who has a clear answer. I know I don't. But the abuse that has gone on for over 150 years, needs to stop somewhere. Maybe Texas will be the one who finally comes up with an answer. We will see.
Oh Brother! | 8:44 p.m. May 27, 2008
Mary the mother of Jesus was around 14 years of age when she GAVE birth to the Son of God... So what does that tell us about when women should have babies? CPS took 460+ children from their parents based on a faulty tip. They have shown a picture, without providing a "trail of evidence". And how is that picture related to their abilities as parents? I would hope they could not take a picture of another relative imprisoned and behind bars to prove how bad they are. American Justice is about the individual not a collective group. Just step back for a moment and think... If you belonged to a church that practiced a perversion, are you guilty of the crime by association? If so then every Catholic should be in prison for the crimes priests committed on young boys. As for Stolen Innocence and the author... you rarely sell books that stick to boring facts.
DD | 9:00 p.m. May 27, 2008
The State of Texas made a mistake. These pictures are no more relevent to their case than the evidence they didn't have when the performed their raid. I believe there are things that member of the FLDS do that are criminal, but without specific evidence of abuse in each case they had no right to take anyone into custody.
Hawk | 9:00 p.m. May 27, 2008
It seems like Texas has a problem with acting first and finding out the facts later. Does anyone remember a place called Waco Texas where the Government burned to death Mothers and Fathers and little children and then made up some story to cover their butts? If we let the Government start taking kids away from their parents because the Government decides they don't like the religion they belong to, when will it stop? Next they will trump up some reason to take children because the parents smoke or they don't feed their children enough healthy food. We are on a slippery slope here folks.
Rebecca | 9:04 p.m. May 27, 2008
Read Carolyn Jessop's book Escape, and there will be no way you would want to live this way or have a child live this way. It is a terrible sad way of life. Where women have no rights have to do exactly what their husbands say are told if they do wrong it is because of them not obeying their husbands and they will go to hell so they are forced to believe they have to do what their husbands say. it is sad this has been allowed to happen at all. Half of merril Jessop daughters are married to
warren jeffs. maybe taking those kids was not the right thing but letting these people live this way is not the right thing either.
You people | 9:29 p.m. May 27, 2008
defending this cult are truly sick. The CPS should do all that it can to make sure these children and young adults are never placed anywhere near those who were supposedly caring for them.
polly | 9:41 p.m. May 27, 2008
If there was a report of child abuse in your home, all of your children would be removed from the home. No difference at FLDS. There was a report and while the report is investigated CPS is not going to leave all of these children unprotected.I don't know how anyone can say that these children aren't in immediate danger. They are prisoners, slaves and sexually abused disguised as marriage. Your 17 year old son can go to prison for having sex with his 15 year old girlfriend....it is called statutory rape.
San Angelo | 10:05 p.m. May 27, 2008
Working for a san angelo news media outlet, I have seen the photos with the girls' faces un-censored. They are younge and baby-faced. This is no 17 or 30 year old "hands". These are little girls. No she isn't pregnant, it's her dress bunching up.
I support the CPS for doing what they were told. THere is no reason that they would need to fabricated evidence-thats craziness who ever makes those accusations. You can eat all your conspiracy theories.

To Mary,
Have to respond to the Home schooled coment. The US school system rates as one of the worst in the world, Home schooled kids in the US are among the very brightest. Not even close!!!
Mthomas | 10:30 p.m. May 27, 2008
What really scares me is that not many of you find this photo alarming.Too many FLDS and pedophiles responding? Please do not hide behind religion on this one- there will be no one to save you.
wake up people | 10:36 p.m. May 27, 2008
It is unbelievable that these cults that abuse children are allowed to exist in America. If a bunch of adults want to throw their lives away following some stupid "profit", than go ahead. But when children are involved, they have no choice and that's not right. Shame on you who can not see through the FLDS lies. Go texas!
Don't mess with Texas | 11:03 p.m. May 27, 2008
or the CPS will come after you. Regardless of how you feel about the FLDS, the lawless bunch at the CPS has really created a mess for themselves here.
Just a thought | 11:10 p.m. May 27, 2008
If your child is knowlingly raped and as a parent you fail to report, are you not culpable (in my state at least)? Therefore if mothers in this community were fully aware of their daughters marrying yucky old men and subjected to statutory rape- aren't they (the patents)guilty by default, in addition to the yucky old man?

I am all for religious rights- untill they break laws and hurt children.
Larry King Live 4/16/2008 | 11:27 p.m. May 27, 2008
google Larry King Live transcripts

KING: We're back with Winston Blackmore. He's the leader of a polygamist community in British Columbia.
KING: Are you a friend of Warren Jeffs?
BLACKMORE: I knew Warren very well.
KING: Was he bad rapped?
BLACKMORE: I think if he had followed the instructions and advice of his father (Rulon), he would have made a very fine leader.
KING: What didn't he follow?
BLACKMORE: His father told us in 1998, before his stroke, he plainly told us all, in Utah that there was -- it was the age difference between marriages, plural marriages. He said we're going to follow this law. We're going to let these people grow up. It was also the advice of our legal counsel at the time. They told us, you guys need to distance yourself from underage marriage. Warren heard it. I heard it. The rest of the people heard it. After his father had a stroke, he chose to do something different.

Had the FLDS followed the original counsel of Rulon Jeffs none of this mess would have occured. Nobody really cares about polygamy, no more than they do about consenting adults.
To S. Kimball | 11:38 p.m. May 27, 2008
I'm surprised that you have allowed your paid multi-million dollar-Preacher to brainwash you into saying lies. You obviously no nothing of Joseph Smith and need to educate your mind from a reputable source before speaking. Maybe you ought to go back to the liberal school you received your education from and ask for your money back!
Just a reminder... | 11:37 p.m. May 27, 2008
Polygamy is STILL against the law in the US- yes the pedophilia is overshadowing polygamy, as it should, but a law is a law people!
To Oh Brother! | 12:33 a.m. May 28, 2008
How ignorant you are! Mary was 14 & Joseph wasn't much older. Life spans were only 30 years!
These men are anywhere from 20 to 50 years old when they are marrying 14 year olds. It was a different time.

As far as Catholic priests are concerned, the parents of the kids molested didn't condone these acts. Your implication is an affront to any family of member molested.
get real | 12:51 a.m. May 28, 2008
These people started as a splinter group and intermarried so much that they are all related to each other and to the prophet. Warren Jeffs has let power enable him to live out his sexual deviancy. Being power mad, he moved people around like pieces on a chess board. Carolyn Jessop and others who fled are the only intelligent ones in the group. I can't for the life of me understand why these people take this abuse...Warren is still trying to manipulate people by putting on a pitiful act so they will feel sorry for him. It is absolutely disgusting.
Sue | 1:06 a.m. May 28, 2008
Jeffs is a perverted nutcase, but he's in jail. Just because they have a couple of photos of this creep kissing young girls, that's no reason to rip 440 young children from their mothers' arms and scatter them across Texas, away from their brothers and sisters, in who knows what kind of foster homes.

I'm curious why none or almost none of these polygamist women are overweight (as I am). I wonder if it's their rustic lifestyle or their diet of fresh foods without all the additives we consume. Few women are able to bear half a dozen children without becoming heavy.
Joy | 4:24 a.m. May 28, 2008
These women are held as sex-slaves and the men have their perverted child porn - live and 'legal'. In incest or when a 'friend of the family' rapes a young girl, the man threatens to kill the girl's family to keep her quiet. In polygamy they are 'threatened' with HELL - no difference, they are in a living hell and don't know it. I hope the women and children are allowed Bibles.
kenno | 5:06 a.m. May 28, 2008
the biggest evidence will come from DNA. why not just wait and see. For everybody's information, Jeffs picture is all over the place in school on YZF ranch, which means these people glorify convicted rapist.
ALLEN | 6:01 a.m. May 28, 2008
If poligamy is against the law why aren't these people being charged with that?
Concerned | 6:15 a.m. May 28, 2008
I hope the Texas officials aren't pinning their case to this photo. As disgusting and incriminating as it is, it doesn't really address whether or not kids should go back to their parents since Jeffs is in jail. It's fallacious to argue that since Jeff did it, others will be doing it. That may be likely, but its not a valid argument that will hold in court.
Wake Up | 6:20 a.m. May 28, 2008
Watch the recorded phone conversation Jeff had with his brother saying he was no prophet and admitted that he was a liar. Jeff was seen crying when talking to his brother. Under the guise of a prophet, he was propelling himself to God like stature with self enriching power to indulge his sexual gratification on minors in the name of religion. He and his cohorts - the so called self elected leaders in the sect are lower than those serial sex predators because at least these perverts do not hide their acts behind religion.
Do wake up - these minors because their marriages are not recognized in the law, guess what! they have been collecting food stamps to the tune of two and half million dollars. That your tax dollars put to work to the hilt supporting these perverts with their unsatiable sexual drive that keep impregnating the powerless to produce children who go on collecting food stamps.
If one so called "leader" has 5 wives and each has 7 kids. We have now 35 supported by your tax. Yeee haa. get then pay court fee.refund the food stamps collected.
Gouchy | 7:01 a.m. May 28, 2008
Throwing around the word pedophile here is wrong, pedophile only refers to sex with pre-pubescents. They clearly wait until the girl is old enough to bear children.
If raising children with a set of beliefs is wrong then no person who follows a religion should be allowed children. Take them all away and let the state raise all the kids so we can be sure they are safe, well educated, well fed - and of course quiet and well behaved - or else!
NOT

Dan Jessop says he is the father...when DNA is performed, can they distinguish whether the father is really Dan or, in reality, perhaps Dan's father Merrill Jessop, who lived in the same household? Could Louisa in fact really be "spiritually" (i.e. bogusly) married to Merrill Jessop?
Tim | 7:11 a.m. May 28, 2008
I smell a stench of hypocrisy. You watch men kissing men on TV and that's ok. You watch women kissing women on TV and that's ok. You watch stories of people committing adultery and fornication on TV and that's ok. But let a man kiss a young lady and that's horrible. How many of you so-called Christians know that the Bible in four places says, "Greet one another with a Holy Kiss"? It is just a matter of time until people like the CPS make a holocaust out of your church, if the judges continue to allow these people to get away with operating under the impression that the children belong to the state. Jeffs is in jail for practicing his beliefs. No victim accused him. No. I am not a believer in polygamy, or the Mormons.
Sofa King Stupid | 7:10 a.m. May 28, 2008
What is the problem here? Both are willing participants. If these children want to have sex with older men, who are we to get in their way? America needs more groups like this. We need someone like Hillary or Obama in office so these people can live in peace.
