the old-farts to young-tarts ratio has been broken....no celestial kingdom for you!
100 kids? | 1:39 p.m. May 20, 2008
100 kids that CPS cannot match to parents...sounds like pandering to me

DNA does not lie
Doug S | 1:42 p.m. May 20, 2008
I can see it now.

FOSTER PARENT: "Hey, kids--I told you! You aren't allowed to talk about Jeffs, because he did naughty things in bedroom and he might be a bad influence on you!

Now run along to school and pay attention to your lessons about the great leaders of this country: Thomas Jefferson, FDR, JFK, LBJ, and of course William Jefferson Clinton."

We took foster/adopt classes from the State Child Services in our state (not Texas or Utah), before we adopted one of our children. The classes were manditory if adopting through the state social services and mainly a waste of time. Many things said by the CPS workers bothered us during those classes, but there was one thing that sickend both my husband and I more than anything. It took place when we had the class on why children are removed from parents. during the class the social workers bragged and joked about how easy it is to get children away from their parents and then listed the things the CPS and Courts do to purposely make it very hard for parents to get them back. They admitted (bragged I should say) that they set the parents up to fail - even make them loose jobs etc. I wish I had had a tape recorder on me that night, because I was shocked that they would say the things they did without worrying about who was hearing them. It was as if they had no fear of the consequences of their words or actions. A very scary and upsetting thing!!!

to - Thank Uncle Warren:

outstanding post! I agree 1000%. Thanks.

(It's too bad it is probably falling on deaf ears, since the FLDS fanatically believe in what they are doing.)
Doug S | 1:48 p.m. May 20, 2008
Chemist, you're exactly right! Those Texas polygamists should just promise to follow the law!

So how about this: They renounce "polygamy", get their kids back, move to Nevada, and themselves a brothel.

Better, yes?
If it were me | 1:51 p.m. May 20, 2008
If my children had been taken from me I would certainly be in court with my wife, especially if my children had been taken from me because of abuse that did not occur. And that is why I think a lot of these fathers aren't in court. The abuse did occur, so they don't want to show their faces in court. If you're innocent, why aren't you defending yourself?

Instead, the men send the women in to do the work. These men are nothing without the women. Their self-identity, egos and purpose in life all hinge on controlling women. Come on guys, if you're God's elite, don't you think he'll protect in court? Don't you want to defend your family and religion like the prophets of old? Guess not...

Any excuse is good enough for a bully.
What kind of sick sociopaths would want to steal a bunch of little kids from their mothers ??
m | 2:06 p.m. May 20, 2008
I really don't care if people practice polygamy - as long as it occurs between consenting adults. We as a country need to fight against underaged girls being spiritually married to adult men.
False Prophet | 2:07 p.m. May 20, 2008
It's plain and simple. Warren Jeffs is a false prophet. God never came and told him he was to be a prophet and to go out and molest young children. This never happened.
Anonymous | 2:12 p.m. May 20, 2008
The FLDS need to learn how to dress and the women need to get hair cuts.

We were also at war with Germany. My own ancestors are German, and for many decades refused to claim as such... saying we were Dutch.

There were no Germans treated like the Japanese in EITHER war.

Today, we're in a war against terrorism, and that means anyone and everyone is fair game, even your neighbor. As an aside, because of the Patriot Act, you (and I) may now be considered guilty before proven innocent for most any crime.

So much for any Constitutional protections.
Yasmine | 2:41 p.m. May 20, 2008
I just feel bad for the children beeing taken away from their family and everything they know. I think we should have respect for everyone. Just like Jesus has told us. Just because they are diffrent, they are still Children off God. I think this hole thing is getting to big. Moms should be with their children!!!!!
Want Jeffs free? | 2:45 p.m. May 20, 2008
Why is everyone crying to let the FLDS go and leave them be, to let them enjoy their wonderful families and enjoy their freedoms and religion as they see fit. But no one is crying to free Warren Jeffs!?!

If your going to praise the bread at least praise the baker. If these people are doing nothing wrong, then Jeffs has been wrongly convicted and we have a bigger problem than we thought.

Your post was just plain stupid. I dont ever recall reading about any leader of our country sodomizing young boys, forcing young girls to marry old geezers, taking famlies away from the fathers, teaching the black race are the devils...I could go on and on, but I dont have that many words remaining

So now "TEXAS CPS" can dictate what religion you can
belong to, what religious leaders you may venerate,
and what religious books you may read.
And now "Her Holy Highness Marleigh Meisner" has
declared that she wants reunification! Is this thing
brain dead? Oh, and it gets better, another female
has been declared an adult, and one female never
existed. Do you think the TEXAS MORON BRIGADE can
admit that the Mystery Phone Caller, was in fact a lie?

Supporting the FLDS from an LDS point of view is revolting. Their beliefs are inferior and outrageous. The spanned off the the LDS religion, there was a reason for it, they have their own beliefs that are not inline with ours. We should not be assumed to help and aide these people, it is a personal affront that people believe we should, their way of life is offensive.
Those who are expecting for the LDS church to step in, do something yourselves. Talking and complaining that everyone else should take care of the problem only removes you from any responsibility you feel we have.
It is very sad what these children are experiencing, if it were my child I would be in dispair, yet the women have a chance to break free and the children removed from further mental damage. If they do not take this opportunity to do it than it is on them.
Grandpa Phil | 3:32 p.m. May 20, 2008
Dear "re: ERic", I beg to differ with you; you ARE next. If you don't believe that then you have missed ALL of the points here. IT DOES NOT matter if you obey the laws; all it takes is one anti-Mormon gainsayer to make one anonymous phone call and CPS will be at your door. If you are lucky, they might even knock on it but that's not their usual style.
sick sociopaths | 3:35 p.m. May 20, 2008
"What kind of sick sociopaths would want to steal a bunch of little kids from their mothers ?? "

Hard to understand, but the sick sociopaths should all be sent to prison for a long time.

The mothers should never have let their daughters be stolen from them at such a young age to be forced into marriages to old men their daughters had no say in choosing.
transplant | 3:44 p.m. May 20, 2008
Something I'm curious about; why don't they just pray? They wouldn't be in this mess if there was even such a thing as a god. I'm sure not hearing them expressing trust in one to get their kids back. Amen.
Dave | 3:49 p.m. May 20, 2008
Warren Jeffs is the devil rapist, he ranks up there with Kobe. I would put them both in jail with big bad homo bubba.
Star Trek Hair | 3:59 p.m. May 20, 2008
To Anonymous,
I don't think the FLDS women need to cut their hair, but they definitely need to get rid of the funny roll on top of their heads. Their are many ways to wear long hair without looking down right silly. Long hair is nice if it is worn in a nice bun that looks normal, and not a 1-2 foot ROLL above their heads. Their hair style is quite odd looking and doesn't really look too fundamentalist to me. I have seen similar hair styles worn in the TV's series Star Trek.
Concerned Parent | 4:00 p.m. May 20, 2008
adoptive mother,
Unfortunately, you are exactly correct. What checks and balances do we have for CPS? To my knowledge there are none. I was recently interviewed by CPS, on the phone I informed the interviewer that I would like an attorney present, she laughed and stated that would not be necessary, in addition, no one ever uses an attorney. I was floored! When I showed up to the interview it was not taped and there were no witnesses. She simply took notes on a yellow notepad. About 5 seconds into the interview I informed her that I was not comfortable with the circumstances of the interview and refused to answer anymore questions. Well as a punishment for "not cooperating" I have been sued AND the interviewer determined that I was guilty. Interestingly enough the criminal charges filed against me at the state level have been dismissed. CPS is nuts with power. They will take a kid out of a home for parents simply yelling too loud. And if you dont know what yelling too loud is, I suggest you ask a CPS worker, cause it is simply based on what she feels at that very moment in time.

"The FLDS need to learn how to dress and the women need to get hair cuts."

And they should be thrown in jail and fed bread and water until they comply. That should teach them a lesson.

"I think that the state of Texas is doing right by the children. They need to be put somewhere that they will be safe."

According to reports, they are safer on the Ranch with their moms.
To Thank Uncle Warren | 4:19 p.m. May 20, 2008
You don't even know what you are talking about. You guys should close your mouthes and open your ears. An honest hearted person knows that all the charges against Warren Jeffs are made up by people who are immoral themselves. Utah and Arizona must be filled with immoral people. You can tell by what they are doing. Texas is now taking the lead. Their immorality and corruption is so great that they cannot see purity and truth. They cannot see purity because their own immoral actions are to overwhelming. No one in Texas, Utah or Arizona will be able to correct any of this. That is unless God himself resides there.

"The search warrant only had one address on it. They got a report of abuse, and they took the children from that address. No other addresses were searched."

To be safe, the address could have been "Texas" or "The United State of America." One address. No other addresses would need to be searched.
To Sharon | 4:33 p.m. May 20, 2008
Interestingly enough, ex-FLDS members have appeared in court to offer custody solutions. Arthur L. Barlow appeared in court alongside his estranged wife, Esther, to plead for the children to be returned.

Barlow said he was excommunicated from the FLDS Church four years ago, but his wives remained. He learned that his children were in Texas custody when a brother-in-law called him, asking if he could help.

He hasn't seen Esther, or the five children he had with her, since then. He recently visited his 6-year-old daughter, whom he said didn't recognize him at first.

"I chose to stay away and let them have a life," he said Tuesday.

Barlow said he adamantly disagreed with the allegations of abuse on the YFZ Ranch, even though he has never been there himself.

More ex-flds are stepping forward, nullifying the words of Carolyn into a "million little pieces."

Your answer and question sounds reasonable...seeing that, I'm sure their welfare has come to a halt."

According to official reports, they never had welfare.
Rich | 4:43 p.m. May 20, 2008
I believe the LDS Church should stay as far away from this controversy as possible. This sect broke away from the church over a point of disagreement more than 115 years ago. The leader of that sect is in prison for ordering child rape. Some of his followers have been accused of child rape. Meanwhile many of his followers continue to break the law of the land by living polygamy. The FLDS are dealing with Texas now precisely because they followed their so-called prophet and many members continue to honor and follow him. The LDS Church would be viewed suspiciously and would be accused of having ulterior motives if it offered to provide housing and foster homes to the victims of this tragedy. Indeed almost any active LDS, given the opportunity, would try to convert FLDS to their side. The LDS Church is right in allowing the government with its system of checks and balances to handle the FLDS situation. All Americans, not just Mormons, should support the Texas effots to stamp out child abuse and also should be vigilant in protecting the civil rights of the victims as well as of the accused.
To Rich | 6:11 p.m. May 20, 2008
As an American, I will NOT support this action instead fighting, as intended by the authors, the excessive power that my government holds. While you desire "check and balances", there is nothing in place regarding CPS that suggests such exists.
Clearly you are not aware of real LDS history or you would know that the Church really ended polygamy in 1904. How would you feel if I used the term so-call prophet in regards to Monson? That applies to someone FLDS as well. I wish the issue was about child abuse, but it is not especially when you consider resources are being used to investigate FLDS finances over abuse. Odd that it would take so long for DNA tests to come back when I can order the same with information returned within a week. The delay is intended to keep family from one another and to rid TX of non-baptists, which is reflected in the removal of the Book of Mormon from acceptable reading material for children. As a non-mormon, I find that outrageous and wonder why the LDS would not involve itself in an issue degrading a book considered scripture. The same would never had it been a Koran.
sally | 7:30 p.m. May 20, 2008
I don't think the lds or any other church should look the other way on this one.
To** Rich | 8:21 p.m. May 20, 2008

Many of us would agree with you. It's a good time for LDS to keep their noses OUT, and clean of all FLDS. They are trouble!
The government is garbage. | 9:19 p.m. May 20, 2008
I don't get this country at all. The country is starting to allow Gay marriage and polygamy is so terrible. I thought this country was established on freedom of religion.
root of the problem. | 9:24 p.m. May 20, 2008
FLDS - you are extremeists. We don't like extremeists. Your way of life is more Taliban than American. We don't like it in Afganistan, and we despise it here.

You greatly restrict freedom of movement. You restrict freedom of choice even more. You allow no dissent. You condemn the outer world as infadels. Women are second-class and children are allowed no outside influence, no opportunity for a different life. If they choose to do so, they are infidel - they are banished. All in the name of religion. (I won't mention the many other accusations, as they are simply accusations - the above is fact)

And you are trying to impose your all-consuming freedom-destroying religious extremeism on an entire generation of helpless children. We find that abhorant.

That's unamerican. We believe in freedom - more than you thought. We believe all people, especially children, should be allowed to choose their own path, without prejudice or fear.

Not quite what you had in mind when you were yelling about freedom of choice, eh?
root of the problem pt 2 | 10:31 p.m. May 20, 2008
by the way, just out of curiosity....

how many FLDS men are in the armed forces, fighting for the freedoms you say you hold so dear? be honest now.

The phrase "serving your country" isn't in your vocabulary. For religious reasons, I'm sure.
New Mexico | 11:02 p.m. May 20, 2008
What I don't understand is, if the FLDS parents are doing no wrong, and no crimes are being committed, why does everyone seem to be hiding something....like names, relationships ect. Innocent people don't hide, or need to lie about heritage. Innocent people don't generally end up in jail guilty of sex crimes either.
To New Mexico | 6:47 a.m. May 21, 2008
The real issue is: Why did CPS refuse to acknowledge drivers licences and birth certificates forcing the courts to validate them as is currently occurring. Don't you find it particularly odd, even suspect, that a 22 year old was listed as a minor (15) WITH those forms of identification? This was occurring as CPS was claiming they didn't have identification and were lying about their ages. The simple fact was that the FLDS were telling the truth AND showing I.D. but since the women do not wear makeup nor do they wear modern clothing, they were ignored and even invalidated. That is why my outrage.
While you claim the guilty do not end up in jail, innocent people DO end up in jail disproportionately in TX (and on death row) and the very reason for the innocence project.
Check the UT trial transcripts and you will see that a juror was removed (suspiciously after a deadlock) to guarantee a conviction of Jeffs. The alleged rapist still has not yet gone to trial, years after Jeffs conviction. There is nothing but alleged rape, but Jeffs remains in jail as accomplice.

No, not FLDS but find it all too strange and suspect.
Sharon | 6:58 a.m. May 21, 2008
REPLY...to poster...To Sharon 4:33 May 20

Does it not seem strange to you, after all these years Arthur L. Barlow is allowed to have contact now with his family that was taken away from him four years ago by sicko Jeffs. I betcha anything, if the cult in Texas wouldnt of got busted....poor old Arthur...still would not be allowed to see his family, but good O' boy Willie Jessop who is calling the shots now, probably said, "get Arthur down here...as soon as all is taken care of, we'll kick him back out of the heard". Truth be known...Arthur did not stay away from his family cause he wanted to but, because he was forced to. Arthur's punishment for something stupid he'd been accused of, I'm sure ! !
TO Sharon | 8:42 a.m. May 21, 2008
It was not a matter of Arthur Barlow being "allowed" to have contact with his family, but choice not to have contact, AS HE STATED. Sticks with facts. That same fact happens commonly all across the country without any question. You failed to notice that CPS now is questioning whether or not that should be considered abuse. You just don't "get" what is really happening. You fail to see how the Book of Mormon removal stated the real situation. You don't find it at all suspicious that the judge stated that there "better be a good reason for the removal of the BOM", yet when no reason was offered but instead the response "I see no reason why the BOM can't be returned" without penalty or further demand of response. You fail to grasp that many of the listed "minors" are being legally classified as adults, which they stated originally with proof of identification but which CPS ignored. You miss the forest for the single tree.

Agnostic, but willing to defend the right to read the Book of Mormon even if other Mormons are not.

To Sharon | 9:10 a.m. May 21, 2008
In a passionate speech, Andrea Sloan, an attorney for a mother, said authorities obtained her client's birth certificate in the raid, but continued classifying her as a minor even though she will be 28 in less than two weeks. The woman, Leona Allred, even had a copy of her birth certificate, but her status as a minor was not changed until Tuesday's hearing.

Sharon, you probably also have no issue with the above obtained at gosanangelo. Because the Center does not house women over age 22, she may be kicked out and without a ride. Your heart must be filled with joy at the horrors taking place thanks to your hero Carolyn who clearly exaggerated based on the words of those that walked away from the FLDS. But walking away is not nearly as exciting sounding as "escape" so you ignore all their words instead believing a story of your own creation. I'll stick with facts.
Sharon | 10:40 a.m. May 21, 2008
To the 2 posts addressed to me by TO Sharon 8:42am and 9:10am. First of all it would be nice if I could answer a post to the name of the poster, posting to me...so I am assuming you are FLDS members in hiding.

Like I stated Arthur Barlow...would not be in Texas..if The bust would not have gone down...fate !
Answer me this...has all the other men that where excommunicated the same time Arthur was, been allowed to see their families? I bet not, unless they have children in CPS custody...case closed ..
Yes Carolyn Jessop, Flora Jeffs, Dr. Fisher, Brent Jeffs, Elisa Wall,Warren Jeffs's sister and all the people I have not listed are heroes...hopefully more ex- FLDS will come forward now and join that hero list.
Janet | 3:54 p.m. May 21, 2008
"Flora Jeffs", where are your facts? Flora Mae JESSOP is her name. You obviouly have no idea what you are talking about maybe you should read more history books written by ex-FLDS, you are as confused as they. The hero list or the hypochondriac list? Try again Sharon, better luck next time.
Gramma | 7:39 p.m. May 21, 2008
The CPS surrogate bullies on this board don't give a damn about innocence - they just want to see someone suffer. They're the same type who cheered in glee at the Salem Witch trials. Perverted, twisted bullies love to destroy innocent people. They're jealous, because they know that their own hearts are black with sin and guilt.

Anyone who is pro-CPS is brain dead AND meaner than a sack of rattlesnakes. Wait til they come for your children, because some creep has made an anonymous phone call.

Gramma | 7:49 p.m. May 21, 2008
New Mexico, you need a reality check - innocent people are convicted ALL THE TIME! Check out the Innocence Project. Every two bit greedy, fame hungry prosecutor and all their hangers on loves nothing more than to gain brownie points, power and fame by prosecuting a high profile sex crime - read some of the many books on the injustice committed in this regard. Start with the McMartin case. It clearly shows how corrupt and evil government workers, social workers, prosecutors, etc., can be.

Educate yourself, because YOUR children could be next.
Gramma | 7:50 p.m. May 21, 2008
CPS lies ALL THE TIME, not just in this case. They have sleazy, lying public relations tactics intended to throw mud at the victims of their abuse (FLDS in this case). There are thousands of CPS victims in the USA. Read their stories - you'll see what a vicious, lying, corrupt, evil organization CPS is. If there is a God, CPS workers are going to fry in Hell, they are committing the worst crime and greatest inhumanity known to man - brutality stealing children from their parents, condemning them to a life of pain and suffering, and knowing all the time, THERE WAS NO ABUSE. All so they can get their funding, or just be on a power trip. Google CPS and Organized Crime - enlighten yourself.
Sugar Momma | 8:25 p.m. May 21, 2008
It's intriguing to see so many names pop up from Carolyn Jessop's book, Escape.

If there are villains at the YFZ ranch, Barbara and Merrill Jessop are at the top of that list.

They said Barbara Jessop wouldn't sign the papers because of an ongoing criminal investigation. Her 17-year old son had given them several names for himself. And of course Merrill Jessop is nowhere to be found. Coward. His children are just pawns to him anyhow, the power-hungry freak. And Barbara is the queen abuser. That woman is Beelzebub incarnate. If little Wendell Jessop is one of those kids with broken bones, Barbara was most likely the one who gave them to him. And they weren't an accident. She beat him bloody when he was just 2 years old.

The mother, Cathleen, tried to do something about it, but was bullied into submission by Barbara and Merrill.

I hope they're both incarcerated.
