It's been a few years since I've followed high school T&F. Since when is the mile not on the program?

Did you forget to put in the shot put for 5A girls.
RIVERTON took FIRST 42'-SECOND 37'-THIRD 37' AND SEVENTH 36'.
RE: Bubba | 8:20 a.m. May 18, 2008

It's the 1600 meter race now, which is actually about 30 feet short of one mile. This was done to bring the race in line with all the others, which are measured in metric units.
Go Devils | 8:23 a.m. May 18, 2008
The mile was run on Friday. The results were in Saturdays paper.
Javelin injury | 8:25 a.m. May 18, 2008
I heard from one of the athlete's parents that a news photographer was injured at the meet yesterday when a javelin went through his leg. Anyone know about this?
Steve Jarvis | 8:29 a.m. May 18, 2008
It was ran on Friday.

I never thought I'd see a sub 9 3200. Amazing.
never mind ... | 8:31 a.m. May 18, 2008
I saw the article about the javelin injury just now ... it wasn't grouped with the other track articles. That guy's lucky he wasn't killed.
Jared | 9:06 a.m. May 18, 2008
One mile is 1609 meters, but the track is 400 meters long, so they run 1600 meters instead of "the mile."
observation | 9:11 a.m. May 18, 2008
They just listed Saturday's finals in today's article. Friday's finals (1600 and girls Shot Put) were listed yesterday. Do a little searching.
Wake Up! | 9:21 a.m. May 18, 2008
The mile (aka 1600 meters) and girls shot put were first-day events and printed with the first-day results in yesterday's newspaper and put online yesterday. Pay attention before y'all go spouting off.
JUAB | 10:19 a.m. May 18, 2008
Good job boys! Its been awhile, I'm glad we finally won state in track again...its been 10 years!
Enterprise Frosh | 12:00 p.m. May 18, 2008
Girls 2A 300 hurdles and high jump won by freshman!!!
Good job dealing with the pressure all season and come up big at state !!!!
JHS | 12:56 p.m. May 18, 2008
Amazing Juab scored so high. Good job Juab especially Russ Neilson.
Richfield | 1:02 p.m. May 18, 2008
Hey guys hold your heads high, state 4 out of 6 years is great especially when you took second the other two. Richfield is the track dynasty of 2A with 12 state titles.
Anonymous | 1:50 p.m. May 18, 2008
Brent R, We at JRES are very proud of you.
2A boys Dynasties | 2:13 p.m. May 18, 2008
Millard is the Dynasty for football and wrestling, Richfield is a dynasty for track, and Juab is a dynasty at being frequent runner-ups in everything... I'm happy for them to actually win this time! Maybe they can win a title in football for the first time in their history too...
Parowan Fan | 3:26 p.m. May 18, 2008
Great job Kiersten Blauer on winning the 1600 and 3200--she also placed 2nd in the 2A 800 with a time of 2:18:75 (this is left out in the article). She was also not mentioned as a runner in the 2A 4x400 team. The team was Blauer, Warr, Robinson, and Harwood.
unknown? | 3:40 p.m. May 18, 2008
the guy that got hit by the jav was taking pictures of the poll volt or the discus when he got hit. he was lucky it didnt go through bolth legs. but a guy told him to look out and he stepped back with one leg and the jav. got him in the other leg. It wasent bad it was right in front of the shin. It just kind of looked like a peircing. But he was dang lucky!
to 2a boys dynasties | 5:42 p.m. May 18, 2008
richfield has more second place finishes than juab over its history. walk through the halls
Come on | 7:45 p.m. May 18, 2008
The photographer was taking pictures of the discus and wasn't paying attetion to the nearby javelin throw. He walked away from the hospital with stiches and was out shooting the meet by the end of the day. It hit him right below his knee. People like this photographer are those who get events like the javelin banned from track and field. Come on. Pay attention. You could get killed.
Please no | 8:22 p.m. May 18, 2008
I hope javelin doesn't get banned. In my opinion its the best even out there (i throw). Please don't ban it, just make the rules a little more strict if anything.
Ban the Javelin | 5:15 a.m. May 19, 2008
The Javelin throw needs to be banned. It is just not save having peole throw those weppons around like toys
tstu | 8:56 a.m. May 19, 2008
Idaho doesn't throw the jav. I believe they have the triple jump instead. If Utah bans the jav though, they might as well ban the shot, disc, pole, and the hurdles. Then they should make tracks out of bubble wrap, and have all the runners wear pads, helmets, and racing flats instead of spikes.
KG | 9:35 a.m. May 19, 2008
Yeah, we should deprive athletes of an even because a stupid photographer can't read a sign. (I hope the sarcasm was obvious). Let's not penalize the kids because of something out of their control. All they need to do is do a better job at monitoring the field so people don't wander out during the event. It's just that easy. Schedule the event during a lull... they could finish it all in less than an hour, including the qualifying round as well as the finals. Do it during an intermission from all the other events. I love the Jav, let's not see it taken away.
javelin | 12:11 p.m. May 19, 2008
did anyone see how close the javelin race was in 5A? that was a pretty intense competition to watch. both competitors did really well.
Oh oh superman | 2:03 p.m. May 19, 2008
notice how san juan and whitehorse got shut out..then they will be singing the same ol' song when football comes around....meatballs!
juab fan | 3:15 p.m. May 19, 2008
Compare the times and the distances by Juab especially the javelin and high jump (they would have won), they would be competitive scores with the 5A,4A, and 3A. Not bad for a 2A school. The guy hit by the javelin was in the wrong place don't make the kids suffer by banning it for someone elses mistake.
jav | 4:17 p.m. May 19, 2008
Throwing these weapons around like toys? Thats ridiculous! How many meets did not have any jav injury occur this year? EVERY one but one. One mans bad judgement should not effect the sport
to Jav | 5:56 p.m. May 19, 2008
Actually its the 2nd one thats happened. Another guy in Utah took one to the leg earlier this season...They need to have better security to keep people out of the restricted area and it won't happen again
Javman | 8:05 p.m. May 19, 2008
I throw jav for a 5A team, but dang what's with Juab having so many good kids. They must have a good coach or something is in the water. That one kid basically threw 190, that's amazing! Nice job bro
Delta | 1:38 p.m. May 20, 2008
You 2A schools ONLY have dynasties because you got Delta kicked out of the classification. SO feel lucky that we were not able to continue our domination.
LOL | 11:12 p.m. May 20, 2008
Delta people crack me up! We still got to face delta in meets since then...Everytime we played Delta in anything we dominated you guys hahaha so don't speak anymore. Delta is also one of the stinkiest places I have ever been too other than Moroni and the turkey farms. And Russ single handedly won the title for Juab. His older brother Trent holds the state record for the Jav with over 200. His brother Wade is really good too, He is on a mission now but he was (and will be again when he gets home) a Decathalete at SUU. And just wait for Jake Nielsen...The kid is in 8th grade and just may have the most potential of all the Nielsen brothers. Oh and if you didn't know, their dad Gary is Juab's Track Coach. The man really knows his stuff, I had the honor of running for him from 2002-2005. If you ever need any pointers about track, he is seriously one of the best there is!
LOL? | 9:07 a.m. May 21, 2008
I know you are not from Juab, because if you are you are living in la-la land. Juab, more than any other 2A school, has NEVER dominated Delta in anything. You need a history lesson little person.
re: oh oh superman | 10:37 a.m. May 21, 2008
Whitehorse did not get shut out, they placed 18th. This is a far cry from the other 15 schools in 1A who did not even score a point. Get your facts right and stop trying to be so full of yourself. By the way, San Juan scored as well at state finishing 12th out of 20 2A schools.
oh sorry | 3:42 p.m. May 23, 2008
i meant to get my facts straight..your guys are king of the mole hill..so bring on superman and i brreakkk him down!!! as usual!!!!
c | 7:43 a.m. May 25, 2008
and your doing great in 3a arnt u delta
fact time | 5:25 p.m. June 8, 2008
Events are dominated on a yearly basis it doesn't matter what classification or what event it happens to be that year. Last year Collin Boevers from Judge Dominated everything, regardless of classification he would have won. This year Luke Puskedra did the same thing. The Arrheinius Bros. did it back in the day too. Track isn't as easy to get bent with that stuff as other sports like football. When you have 34 people on your football team, you better have some dang high profile athletes if you expect to win, same thing with basketball. Our team only cuts about 3 kids each year, tell me how we could compete with teams where kids beg to be on the team? Hard work can't erase a talent crop, that's why the division. Look at North Summit, the school is stacked at their level, but they are jsut average at a higher classification.

Way to go Kalon! 4 event state champ! were proud!
