East side transition team members forgot that education not money grubbing is the responsibility of boards of education. Thank you Jordan District Board members for attending to your duties.
The split was always about money. The East side having had the projects done for their schools wants the money that was supposed to be done for the schools on the West.
Spend the money!!!! Just like in a divorce spend it so there is nothing left for the bully. Let them get their own money!
JSD, by its blatant disregard for any sense of fairness and propriety, and ignoring the Legislature's trust of them to be fair and proper, have now set about implementing a scorched earth policy to make sure the east side is left with virtually nothing, even if it ultimately harms the west side and costs everyone more money.
The asset split is based on Dec 31, 2007 assets. Depending on how the asset split turns out, the District may be improperly spending east side funds.
Mr. Christensen's comments are laughable. They sat on their hands for years while this financial mess grew. JSD only has the money to spend because the east side cities begged them to issue the remaining 2002 bonds. At the time, Mr. Christensen indicated it would be "dishonorable" to do so. Interesting how his conspet of honor changes with the circumstances. One also wonders which students Mrs. Wallace is talking about. Every vote she has taken over the past 6 months has been in direct contradiction to the interests of the constituents she claims to serve. She is the swing vote sending all the money west while east side schools languish.
Tough east side they are carrying on business as usual. I hope they spend every red cent!!!!
East side schools languish?
Hardly.
Every school has work done on it during the summer so why should this year be any different? Repairs from wear and tear need to be made, rooms repainted, carpet patched, etc. They will be doing this in ALL the schools. Do you just believe the buildings maintain themselves and lo and behold look better at the beginning of the next year?
Next thing you will be claiming is that paying teachers for work done after Dec. 31, 2007 was improperly spending East side money because of a general ignorance how we fund education. These school repairs must be done before schools reopen the next year.
To bad east side, the board is responsible for carrying on business as if there were no split. I hope they spend all the money also. Hey Kim way to go, Do not let that transition team and the men push you around. GO GIRL!!!!
HEY "LEHI" look at this mess ! That is what it would be ......
The board has the right to carry on until the split takes place. They need to take care of the districts needs as if the split were not taking place. Too bad if the transitition team does not like it. I hope all the money is spent up, divorce is messy, but the east asked for it so the wife aka the west is taking them to the cleaners
Spend it!!!!!!!! this is the wests way of getting back at the east in a legal way.
Is there not a way to freeze all monies until this is worked out? Seems to me the board is going to spend up all the money over the summer when we are not looking.
I would like to see a copy of this letter made public. This is about all of us not just transition teams and a board.
I agree with Wolfie. Lets make this letter public so we can decide if it is threating. The transition teams and the board is responsible and should answer to the public about tactics being used.
Yes East sider there is--the courts.
Of course that means the schools wouldn't operate next year, all those kids would drive their parents crazy and we'd have total chaos, but at least you Easterners would get a few dollars back.
It really would be foolish to stop school operations, and I doubt the courts would use an injunction order that could have devastating consequences. Besides, these board members were elected by you as well as I to represent the district. Let thme do their job.
JSD wants to sue Draper, now they are fighting within the ranks. I think they need to clean house. If these were my employees they would all be fired.
It always seemed to me the people on the east side of the district who voted for the split were acting rather selfishly. The people living on the west side helped contribute to the building of your schools when they were needed. Now that the growth has slowed on your side, you didn't want to help pay towards the growth in another part of the district.
Isn't it odd that those who were impacted the most on the district split were not allowed to vote? This seems to be a very bad bit of legislation, and we need to find out who passed that law and get rid of them. Our laws in Utah are continually benefitting the special interests at the expense of the majority of citizens.
It's only fair that the west side gets as much as they can out of the district before the split. Let those on the east side whine and moan for a while. They voted for the split, and now it's time they actually pay for their poor decisions.
