Comments about ‘Dixon dress code done deal, district says’

SWEET! Maybe more students can leave Dixon for the local charter school. Provo's middle schools are overflowing. 1000 7th and 8th grade students at one school is WAAAYYYYY too many. It is no wonder we are seeing more gang activity and crimes committed in this age group in Provo. It was a big mistake to close Farrer as a middle school in the first place.

I just hope they close Centennial to school choice because you know the applications are going to go through the roof with this policy.

Don't most charter schools have some sort of dress code policy anyways? If they move to charter schools won't they have a similar, if not more restrictive, dress code?

Just wish more parents would step up to the plate. It is sad to see young children looking so sloppy as well as such poor posturing. Time for parents to clean up their children and maybe they may enjoy life and being educated better. Needs to be a dress code for teachers too!

Are you seriously arguing that there is more gang activity and crime in this age group because there are 1000 students at this school? You see no other reason for this? Wow, crime must be off the charts at the BYU, with over 32,000 students.

With 78% of the parents voting for the dress code (which is quite a super majority), how do you see Centennial's enrollment going through the roof? Do you think these 78% are going to be so disappointed with the compromise that they'll leave?

If the dress code for next year is a compromise, how do you see children moving to a charter school (which have more restrictive dress codes) being a good move for those who are opposed to the dress code?

If you are reading this, I would like to know what your problem is with the dress code. If anything, I would hope that you don't feel it is restrictive enough. Something had to be done to keep the gang banging clothing out.

I agree with you totally. I tell my kids that we dress for success.

Since our schools don't have uniforms, I wish that they would just enforce the dress code that is in place now.

The teachers I remember learning the most from were the ones that dressed in dresses, slacks, nice shirt, and one even wore jeans, shirt, tie and jacket.

I have noticed with some of my kids teachers that there is no wonder that they have no control in the classroom. The kids see them as one of their peers, not someone in authority.

Teachers ought to be required to dress in a professional manner.

I agree with having a more standerd dress code, but at what cost to the parents times are hard enough now with prices going through the roof. This dress code was propossed by parents who do not have a problem with the money issue, the parents who voted against this was due to money issues i know because i was one of the parents. And by placing this dress code will not get rid of the gang clothing because all they mostly wear is khaki pants and button up shirts it will not stop it but only increase from this point on and that was the concern with most of the parents as well. And yes dixion has a large gang problem this dress code will not help that problem, I have a sister n law who is in that school and i am sorry to say but does have a gang and violence problem. And not much gets done about this because they are understaffed, they are a great staff but need alot more of them, And yes Mrs. Ungerman needs to open her eyes more and start focusing more on the violence.

i just started jr.high its the third week and i get told i have to go home because i have a little purple in my hair(its agenst dress code)i go home bleach it out and come back.... a few weeks before i had just gotten the dress code witch was lame not screen print at all no logos or name brands unless it was on a collerd shirt but it can't be bigger than a qurter just by lookin at a couple things i noticed that this was a crappy dress code!!!!!!!!!!! any one agree? hmmm
