And we wonder why gasoline is $4 a gallon and rising. What a waste of fuel. We think nothing of jumping in the car and driving for hours just for fun. These guys are the extreme, but millions of Americans do some of this every day. Get ready for $5 plus gasoline.

It never ceases to amaze me that no matter what the story, someone has to find some bad in it. If we all stopped to find the good instead of the bad, our world would be a lot more pleasant.

True, the economy is bad, oil prices are high, and the housing market is crashing. But, LIFE IS GREAT!

I love this story, Cathy, and I always read your column. Thanks for giving us something fun to read about when most of the other news in the paper is a downer. These guys fulfilled their dream, even with the high gas prices. You go, guys! I would loved to have done something like this when I was their age.

Yes, there was a negative aspect to this story. Yes, it's important to keep these things in mind.

Part of living is the reality that all things have good and bad in them. It is impossible for us to improve ourselves if we just stick our head in the sand and pretend that "everything's okay".

The best part is, we have to learn to do that without letting it get us down.

What a great story: we hear so much about bad things in the world, so it is a nice change of pace to hear about people doing something (that doesn't hurt anyone else) just for the fun of it!

This is the first I've heard of this story and I must say, "Fantabulous!" What a great adventure. A road trip of a lifetime for these guys. I've driven across country from Portland, Oregon, to Germantown, Maryland and back and would do it again. Hitting every continental state is kewl. Hope these guys always remember their trip with fondness.

I feel bad for all of the insects that were needlessly killed by this joy ride. How would you feel being killed by someone out for a joyride. Invariably, some of the insects must have left families at home to grieve, or even starve.

These young men showed US it's cool to drive a funny-looking car that gets good gas mileage, maybe even high-priced hybrids.

I read the jillions of comments on the greatamericanroadtrip.us blog, and believe that now more Americans will be willing to let go of gas-guzzlers.

In other words, that was well-spent gas!

Thanks to them for their quiet effort.
