Bad headline | 7:10 a.m. May 14, 2008
I wouldn't call losing 9-5 as being pummeled.
Superb Pitching? | 9:34 a.m. May 14, 2008
I don't know if giving up 5 runs on 10 hits is superb pitching, but Taylor Jones craftfully pitched his way out of tough spots. Springville put some good swings on him all day long. A good pitcher finds ways to get out of jams and that is exactly what Jones did when he had the bases loaded with 2 outs facing Springville's top hitter.

I give credit to Springville for being prepared offensively. But Cyprus had so many 2-strike hits to extend innings and score runs that they overshadowed anything Springville tried to do.

It would be a long road back for Springville, but it would be exciting to see these 2 teams meet again.

Wow, another "top" Utah county team bites the dust. Keep covering those (2) tough regions. Shocking. Not.

Three of the four Region 7 teams won. Three of the four Region 4 teams won. Not a bad day for Utah County.

Everyone knows writers don't get to write their own headlines. I would call Jones' pitching superb, since it sounds like he shut down Springville when they needed the run support the most, and he had a four-pitch inning. Sounds like these are sour grapes Utah County people. Be happy that it's a double-elimination tourney!
By the way Utah County | 11:59 a.m. May 14, 2008
baseball had a pretty good day. The fourth place team from Region 4 Timpanogos spanked Region 1 champ Viewmont, the third place team from Region 4 American Fork topped Northride pretty good. SF slipped up and lost but Region 4 was one run away from a four for four day. I expect Region 4 WILL dominate the state play-offs.

Region 7 was also especially solid. Springville was the third place team from this league and did reasonably well on the road against a top team with a top pitcher, the guy who beat Cottonwood by the way earlier in the year! Region 7 winner Mountain View won, as did Orem and Payson, the fourth place team that survived a play-in game with Provo beat Sky View at Sky View by a respectable margin. I'm not sure Region 7 will dominate, but they did well and Region 5 is by far the weakest league.

Overall Utah County had a good day in anyone's book and was five runs from a perfect 8 for 8. I imagine PG and Provo, two teams that stayed home would have fared well as well. I'm not sure what that guy up there is talking about.

Hats off to the Deseret News for the coverage of high school sports. UTAH COUNTY seems to imply that some teams are not worth covering. Maybe UTAH COUNTY should become a SL Trib subscriber and have his/her wish: Minimal coverage, if any, of high school sports.
