parking tickets are going from 10bucks to 15bucks.
What were you complaning about?
Get used to it.
What planet or drugs do you have in South Jordan, I have paid $20 at the most for a parking ticket I deserved in SLC. Dems are going to have to raise taxes to pay the debts of the Republicans -- simple math will tell you that.
Here's an idea. Fire all the meter maids, get rid of the parking meters. And maybe people will voluntarily go downtown. Right now I only go if I have to. Too many greedy people in downtown.
Bob, Repubs love raising fees. Democrats love raising taxes. I know, I'm a Democrat.
If "raising taxes" is "in his blood" then I guess that pure greed is in republican blood? Or is it spending money that you dont have? Or is it hypocricy in there blood?
I never get parking tickets. It is pretty simple, dont park where you shouldnt.
"Fine increases for most parking tickets would be minimal: The basic expired-meter ticket would go up from $100 to $105..."
DesNews had a typo. It is $10 to $15 and it has been $10 for about a decade. If you got rid of all the meters and meter maids then all the street parking would be taken by employees who work downtown and a customer would never find a place to park on the street.
Well Mr. Trujillo, it's like this. We were having our super-secret SLC liberal commie meeting. The action item on the agenda was the question of how to further infuriate and torment the citizens of the 'burbs around the city. We reflected on our past successes: sticking it to the Davis County residents with that whole bogus Legacy Highway lawsuit thing; the domestic partner registry; the constant push to loosen liquor laws; flying the Gay Pride flag from City Hall; every single policy of Mayor Rocky Anderson; etc, etc.
It occurred to us that we could both increase revenues AND accomplish our goal of riling up you suburbanites by raising fees for minor infractions like parking. I mean, what are you going to do about it? Go to a Jazz game in South Jordan? Watch the Days of '47 Parade from the Jordan Commons parking lot? Take Trax to come see the Christmas lights at Temple Square? Not likely, Mr. Trujillo. Not likely at all, I'm afraid. Mwahahahahahahahaha, mwhahahahahahahAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! And so our evil plot continues to unfold . . .
So Bob, if you live in South Jordan and you don't park like an idiot in Salt Lake City - What's your beef? How does this possibly affect you?
There are a lot of good cities and towns along the Wasatch Front that appreciate people stopping by while shopping. If Salt Lake City sends a message that it doesn't want 'foreigners' coming into the city, then that should be a signal to all the other cities and towns to welcome those 'guests'.
Expecting 'outsiders' to balance your city's budget by raising fees, taxes, and fines, is counter-productive. If we're going to spend the dollars that it takes to drive to downtown Salt Lake City and then find that we've driven into a hostile environment, the word is going to get out and Salt Lake City will find that all the advertising in the world won't circumvent their folly.
By the way, I live in South Jordan and I do not recommend that anyone be foolish enough to try to drive through our city without three look-outs on board to spot the police who lurk behind each and every blind spot, constantly on the watch for those foolish enough to trust their own speedometer. (No, I haven't received a ticket in South Jordan in over twenty-five years, but I always drive 5 mph under the posted speed limit.)
