Mohave County attorney Matt Smith: "applying [the law the] way [it plainly reads] leads to absurd results."
To paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld: "You go to court with the law you have, not the law you wished you had."
Except in Texas and Arizona.
Yup, do whatever it takes to find him guilty. On as many counts as possible! Just ridiculous.
For hundreds of this countries history, marriage to first cousins and further out was legal. Geneticists learned that a problem could occur if the related couple had a recessive gene between them, and so they required a "blood test" to see if such was the case. THAT is why they used to require blood tests prior to marriages. It didn't matter if there was no close relation.
What geneticists also learned was that marriage of first cousins, if done without the recessive gene, actually produced healthier children than the general population of non-related marriages.
But, who cares about science and history. "Kill the witch"!
