I am not FLDS and I believe this action is a travesty. Evidence shows these
people act as individuals and not as one entity yet they are legally being
treated as one entity from the search warrant (which one woman requested and was
denied) to child custody in which all children were removed over individual
hearings.
All here want to believe they are pedophiles yet evidence suggests that there are no legal Texas marriages and that "spiritual" marriages were within legal age. Those records also show that some FLDS are monogamous and another shows a man in his 60's as married to a woman well into her 70's.
No, I am not FLDS nor would I desire their lifestyle for me, but at the same time I do not believe we should inflict our values on them nor yours on me.

As I thumbed through the comments that have been left on the site, I am amazed
at the hatred and venom that some folks can't contain. Utah should be one
of the most fair and unbiased states in this nation and certainly the most
understanding. It may be true that FLDS and LDS are confused and this may cause
some concern with many. But it is not worth denying your heritage and birth.
Utah's heritage is rich with large families and yes polygamous families. Is
it worth kicking dirt on Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other good and
prominent leaders. I submit to you it isn't worth it. If you will look at
the FLDS situation with open minds, you would find many of your hate statements
unfounded. I have a question for all of us that have our children at home
tonight with us in our own homes. If you were denied that privilege
wouldn't you consider that every option of appeal could and should be
appealed to? important enough that if GW could help, then ask him? I think
these people are genuine and are earnest. All opinions and hate feelings aside,
God bless them.

My burning question is WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP OF THE FLDS CHURCH????? Merril
Jessop was running the show in Texas while Uncle Warren has been locked up, but
now Merril seems to have vanished. If no crimes have been committed by the FLDS
as they claim, then why did Merril and most of the other men flee? Why did they
abandon their women? Why are they running scared?

i have a niece near corpus christi and the place where some of the children are
now living. she says it is an excellent place with loving and caring people.
the children are having home schooling, the local teachers are volunteering to
help them. they are planting a garden in a peaceful and friendly community, and
the local area people are helping with money, clothing, seeds, garden equipment,
etc.
what exactly have any of the polys done for the children. they have millions of dollars, why dont they use some of it to make sure the children have some extras.
if they really loved them, they would be begging to send money to the shelters where they are.

Thank you, good comments. I agree. This was a terrible action taken by a power
hungry and scared CPS and State of Texas. I can see the CPS workers gobbling
down hot dogs, sodas, watching cartoons, playing video games and hating their
neighbors who so blatantly, by their lifestyle, show the CPS workers that they
are going down the junk trail.

Wild bill is right ...bit by bit we are losing our rights. First it was our
kids,now our pets.calif says:1. no pets left in car alone. 2:lets make them use
cars seats soon. 3:How about saying no pets loose in a car..buckle them up too?
As if our kids were not enough for them to mess with..safety seats till age 8.
So tell the LFDS they are not the only ones losing their rights. I called my dog
a bad dog and my daughter says verbal abuse will be next. Lord knows he gave us
our kids and the states take away.

I don't know where a lot of you are comming from but I do know what it is
like to be in an institution and treated badly buy other children there,and
espescially in this case where these children are naive to the world around
them,and being subjected in this case to cruel and inhumane treatment as the
state sees fit.The scares that these events will leave on these inocent children
will last a life time. I know from personal experiance,I am 68 years old and
still have nightmares of events that transpired 55 years ago and my experiances
are nothing compared to what has been done or things yet to happen

The flds are charged with a being a group, male-dominated, which abused female
children (ok, rape). Society's authorities, called govt., acted.
It is a most serious charge. To read people trying to equate child rape with: a, b, c, d, e, f... and excusing it is depressing.

I have been reading these post for days and all some people seem to be
interested in is ripping CPS and the State of Texas. Read up on what Uncle
Warren tried to do to Ross Chatwin and his wife Lori. There is a saying in
mental health that goes like this. The terms abuse and neglect depends on who is
doing it. If Uncle Warren tears families apart...It is supposed to be a good
thing. If anyone else tries to help these kids, it is abuse and neglect. And
then there is the issue of racism. Listen to the audio clips that he made
concerning racism. He also supposedly studied the book "The Rise and Fall
of the Third Reich" and allegedly used it as a guideline to govern the
community and control the people. His plan was to have "Perfect
People". And I sympathetic??? Not hardly.

have abused his children, and I hope all of the people, voted in to protect your
rights, pass the buck just like the way these people have been treated. Then

charge has been made and still 464 children are still kidnapped. your job as
american citizens is to back other citizens who's civil and constitutional
rights have been violated, lest your rights will disappear just like the FLDS

Let's not forget that there are women-- adult women--that are being held in
"custody" against their will because the State of Texas is calling
them "minors in dispute". These women have shown proof of identity,
birth certificates, drivers licenses, etc. and the state will still not release
them even though they are ADULTS. What Texas has done is a total breach of
human rights not to mention the fact that it is completely adverse to
Constitutional rights. Child Protective Services has been given far to broad a
reach in this case. Each child and each family needs to be treated individually
and assessed as such. Sure there may be a few nutjobs in the mix and they
should be prosecuted. But could CPS take an entire population of a Catholic
school into custody because a priest at the school had molested children and
their parents had allowed their children to attend? I don't think so.
Texas has overstepped its boundary in a major way. What will be next?!?!

Sheesh, does anybody know the law. When you are ACCUSED, you can be arrested.
When there is PROBABLE CAUSE, children can be removed from an apparently abusive
household. There is no amount of religous freedom that allows the abuse of
underage girls. If you think the FLDS is so peace-loving, listen to some of the
so-called prophet's rantings about African-Americans. It is astonishing
that so many people defend what these people do, absolutely astonishing. I was
amused by the use of Mother's Day. The only holiday they celebrate is the
birthday of a criminal who is now in prison, thank God.

Infants and children were "taken" by CPS for "suspicions" of abuse.

I find it amazing for a group that shuns the outside world that on their website
that they are now appealing for donations to help them pay for their legal
people.
I dont understand how people who own 17000 acres of land could need donations. sell an acre or 2.

I think it is a great deflection tactic of the FLDS to try and make this about
religion. Its not its about child abuse. They are just using religious
percecution as a lever. The problem is child abuse. If the women want to wear
long dresses and bake bread and not watch TV thats fine. I Live used to live by
a group of people who did that called "plimouth Bretherans" they led
there own lives and did all that but you know what they didnt ever treat the
rest of the world as evil and they paid taxes they just had a different set of
beliefs. Nothing wrong with that, and not one of them married at 13 or 14 but
many girls went to University and got good jobs. But when they did get married
they stayed home. Its what i think of as old fashioned but no one got hurt. End
of the day CHild abuse is wrong no matter how you dress it up.

I can't imagine anyone attempting to hand deliver a letter to GW Bush at
his daughters wedding. That took alot of nerve!
The FLDS trying to use Mother's Day as a plan to make the world feel sorry for them. Fact of the matter is the 'so called Mother's' denied their children. The children never knew WHO the birth mom was. So you have the audacity to toss a tizzy fit now??? They could of worked with CPS instead & should of. Instead they feel like they should be treated several notches above everyone else / its not happening & they're just a number in the system. Fact is they had a choice & the moms denied the kids....I ask was it worth it????

What I find terribly odd and interesting is that so many LDS do not defend the
FLDS. No, I am not suggesting they are the same church before you rant about
that one. But, since so many people get the wrong information and assume that
the flds and the lds are one religion why is it not also reasonable to believe
that many get their fact incorrect about the FLDS. One FLDS man might indeed be
Chester the Molester, but that does not mean ALL FLDS are molesters.

I thank Mr. Jessop and others here for comic relief on several counts:
--What are FLDS weddings like? Does Jessop possibly think the parents of the bride want distraction from a bunch of incomprehensible rabble?
--Aside from the interrupt the wedding issue, these folks'social sutdies curriculum is pretty weak if they have so little understanding of basic principles like separation of powers, not to mention the President's own history of heavy firepower rahter than negotiating finesse.
--Mother's Day is just a nice touch. I cannot decide whether these woman are hard-working heroines or victims of collective brainwashing. I COMPLETELY sympathize with their concern about their kids, but if they only celebrate Warren Jeffs' birthday, pleading their case on Mother's Day seems cynical and opportunistic.
--To the poster who suggested Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton get involved, I want to see the diplomacy that would make that happen. I believe the folks who say the FLDS are practically white supremacists. I DO celebrate this holiday.
Ironically, it IS "normal society" that claims to "honor" motherhood with this holiday.
While many of you are thrilled to continue vilifying these people - SOME OF US - are of a different mindset.
Some of those - of that different mindset - believe strongly in prayer.

The children could go to grandparents homes if they weren't a part of the clan at the FLD! The state could of contacted family members to take the kids until things were sorted out!

The FLDS parents did EVERYTHING in there power to cause any & every problem they could to make sure the kids were NOT IDENTIFIED! They changed there own wrist bracelets & the kids! Now crying wolf........ sorry I don't buy it!!!!

I saw an online interview from the Today Show(NBC) this morning. Two FLDS
couples were on the show along with Willie Jessop, and asked questions from
viewers by e-mail.
Q: Every time someone from your community is questioned whether or not you feel it is abuse to have a teenage girl pregnant or married, you all dance around the question. If you all have nothing to hide, why not give a straight forward answer?

Mr. Keate and Mr. Jessop, you both danced around the question AGAIN. This is the same as saying you have something to hide.

Since Warren Jeffs has resigned as head of the FLDS church perhaps a more
moderate member will take over the position and rethink church policy in areas
where it runs headlong into laws. Perhaps this rethinking will result from
praying and seeking divine advice. I don't apologize for the FLDS, but can
see the obvious fact that the punishment being meted out to them by Texas
authorities can have no net positive effect in reducing child abuse and
mistreatment. For every kid who may have been abused at the ranch the record of
foster care in Texas guarantees that the same percentage of kids will be abused
within the foster system.
Wouldn't it just be a lot easier and more cost effective for Texas just to return the kids to their families? A contingent of armed guards could be posted at the YFZ ranch to control egress. Video cameras could be mounted in classrooms and meeting areas so that the CPS could constantly monitor any teaching of illegal belief systems.
Soda pop vending machines and video games could be installed for the kids, and fathers would have check in with key cards to visit appropriate and legal partners nightly.

White House denies receiving letter from FLDS member.
Since the 2001 anthrax scare in Washington and New York, people attempting to deliver letters to the White House or other top government properties typically are turned away. Secret Service agents do not accept letters on behalf of the president, either. Think this Jessop is a liar.

Attention FLDS (and supporters) - It is painfully obvious that you people care
more for your religion than you do for your children. If the child
doesn�t do exactly as required by your extremely strict
religion, they are kicked out. And not just kicked out �
they are banished from every having a relationship with you

children�s well being.
So stop with the sympathy attempts. We believe you to be hapless sheep following a crazy �prophet�s� directives and caring much more about yourselves than you do about your children. Otherwise you wouldn�t choose your religion over your own children, which you do every time you let the �prophet� determine your child�s fate and banish your own children from your lives. And if you really cared about your children, you would give them the tools needed to survive in the real world instead of trying to imprison them in your little group. Ignoring child brides, abuse, etc � you are simply not good parents, as you do not let your children become their own person. I too think that this Jessop character is lying. I don't think that very
many of us would have been able to "crash" the wedding in Crawford.
That is, and stay out of jail.
This is all unbelievable to me at times. These people follow the teachings of a "Prophet" who has managed to get himself put in jail for being an accomplice to rape. Then he has charges against him from a nephew who accuses him of sodomizing him numerous times when he was a small child. He himself has said that he was "immoral" with a sister and a daughter years ago.
And on top of that, he has managed to get the FLDS listed as a "hate" group with the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Why would anyone have any kind of respect for him at all??? Let alone listen to what he teaches.

TEXAS WAKE UP! Give those children and babies back to their parents! Since
when have the children done anything to you? WHY should THEY SUFFER?
GIVE THEM BACK to their parents. THEN go in and investigate the older girls and find out the truth if they have suffered any improprieties.

those children were suffering already by being with their FLDS parents!! and
also the abuse would continue if the children were just given back. the
"older girls" that you are reffering to are just going to lie because
that is what they are taught to do!!! If you "care" about the children
so much then maybe you should re-think your comment about giving them back!!
