The Jazz did a great job tonight holding off a very good Lakers team and the
continuing effort by the Refs to help them... It's time the refs starting
giving the Jazz (e.g., Williams) some of the same "touch" fouls
granted Kobe. The foul where Kobe fell down and put Kirilenko out the game was
awful...

I'll be the first to admit that this guy is amazing as far as his
basketball skills go. He's by far the best player in the series and
deserving of the MVP.... However, I couldn't help to grin inside when near
the end of the fourth quarter Kobe started to misfire.
He threw up a couple Tracy McGrady like bricks and then with 14 seconds left publicly scolded Luke Walton for fumbling a jump ball tip. As far as the scolding goes, all I can say is, I'm glad to see that the old Kobe is still in there.

Clearly no one on the Jazz roster, and maybe no one in the NBA can STOP Kobe.
However, I've been surprised at how well Harpring has been able to slow him
down.
Kirelinko tends to try to smother Kobe too much. By not giving Kobe enough room, he blows right past him. Although Harpring also plays tight he tends to move his feet better. Also, Harprings strength helps keep Kobe from getting inside position.
Now I'm not suggesting Harpring play Kobe the whole game, or even at all time that Harpring and Kobe are on the floor together. I think the main reason that Harpring is having some success against Kobe is that he's only on him sporadically and usually Kobe has been worn down some.
On a side note, I definitely think Brewer's aggressivenss near the end of the game helped take out Kobe's legs somewhat. Brewer needs to driver more on Kobe during the entirety of the game. The only real way to slow down a superstar is to make him work on both sides of the court.

If anyone was on this board yesterday, they would have seen a dozen posts about
how terrible Boozer is and how we should trade him in the off season. Needless
to say I was disgusted with the Boozer bashing and attributed the comments to
fair weather fans. So where are those Boozer bashers now?
To all those Boozer bashers, I will give you one thing: Boozers defense needs a lot of work. I don't think it's because he's lazy, I just think his defensive IQ needs educating. Although fatigue may play a role. I know in my own limited basketball experience it is very difficult to be aggressive on both the offensive and defensive end of the courts ON EVERY PLAY. You see players take advantage of that by back dooring him a lot. But Boozer isn't the only one who has a hard time being aggressive both offensively and defensively. Take a close look at our best player D-Will and you'll notice hime get burned on D occassionally as well.

When it counted most, Boozer delivered (intentional reference) and Kobe
didn't.
I thought it was funny to see the Laker players' and coaches' reaction when they didn't get the calls that they are used to getting. Still, there were far too many "star treatment" calls going Bryant's way.

Great win by the Jazz last night, another one on Sunday should give us the
momemntum we need to steal a game in Los Angeles!
On a side note - I wish the fans in the ESA would focus on cheering for the Jazz rather than focusing on berating the opposing team's players in an attempt to get them to lose their focus. If anything such actions are bad karma, but more importantly it may cause the Jazz players to lose focus as well.
For example, last night when Boozer missed to straight free throws at the end of the game, someone could be heard on ESPN's air verbally berating Kobe Bryant (I assume it was the now famous Dr. Anderson). If it was loud enought to be heard on air, don't you think that it may have effected Boozer's attempts?
Jazz fans, lets be positive with our own players, not waste our energy yelling negative crap at the opposing teams.

One of two things will happen Sunday: 1) the Jazz play as well or better, having
gained confidence in beating the Lakers when they got no respect from the refs,
or 2) the Laksers will pour it on, knowing they could have won that last game
when Boozer finally showed up.
The problem with Boozer finally showing up is that he won't follow up with another great game. Very few players are capable of repeating top-notch performances from one game to the next. And, with Deron's shooting hand injury, you can expect his outside shot to be off.
To win on Sunday, the Jazz are going to need someone else to step up and have their best game. And, the whole team will need to be into it, or it's all over. The Jazz can't win a series against the Lakers if they lose a home game--no chance of beating the Lakers twice in their place.
Let's just hope Deron's injury isn't debilitating.

first of all, its 'steal' not 'still'. Second of all,
it's only one game, lets not get our hopes up yet. I'm about as big a
jazz fan as they come, but lets be realistic here.

Like I've been saying. These two quality teams are evenly matched.
That's why I predicted home wins will split this series: game one and two
went to the Lakers, Jazz will win the next one to even this up. It will just be
hard for the Jazz to win in L.A., just as it will be hard for the Lakers to win
in Utah. I still think that homecourt will ultimately be the difference in the
series (Refs), but with the Jazz gaining confidence they could steal game 5 in
L.A.
The away game factor: so far the Lakers have shown me that when needed they still resort almost exclusively to their star (Not enough, even with his special mvp treatment from refs on an away court). And the Jazz have shown that their stars have lacked confidence to take advantage of the reserves keeping it close (Could change).
With the Jazz gaining confidence it's more likely that the Jazz stars will come alive than it is that the Laker reserves will close out a game. This is getting interesting, but again the L.A. homecourt/ref edge is still the biggest factor to overcome. Got your game 7 tickets L.A.?

Like another great player who kept beating the Jazz, Kobe cheats and has the
refs on his side. No denying his talent, but it is not basketball when one team

For those of us who watched the game on TV, could you believe the comment the
announcers made about the officiating? I don�t even know
if they released what they said.
One of them made the comment that �the officiating was very fair in the game, I know the fans wanted a foul on that play but if they are not going to call it on one end of the court they can�t call it on the other end�. Two minutes later as Bryant came running down the floor and a foul was called they said �you know their going to give that foul to Bryant so I don�t know why you would even try that�
Tell me how that�s fair! You know they are going to call a foul on you if you even get close to him.

Did you just discover the game of basketball yesterday? Kirilenko's foot tripped Kobe as he was driving to the basket, and Kobe went to the floor pretty hard as the ball bounced out of bounds. I know it wasn't intentional, but what do you suggest here? Should unintentional tripping be allowed? Better yet, do you really think the refs should have given the ball to the Jazz after that?
In short, if you watch another basketball game, you might notice that the refs consistently call those unintentional tripping fouls. Wait, maybe you're better with baseball; ever heard of "tie goes to the runner?" Same idea.

There must be a torch that gets handed off and Jordan handed it to Kobe. It was
called the Jordan rules you all remember it. If you even looked his way a foul
was called. Kobe obviously has control of that torch now. Sure there are obvious
fouls on him but its the touch fouls that no one else ever gets no even his own
team mates. That drive coaches and players to madness. It is stunning to see him
use his off hand to hook and push off with no call. Its unfair advantage but it
will never change just like MJs never did.

The officals tried to win it for the Lakers but couldn`t. Some of the fouls that
were called against the Jazz were ridiculus, they just weren`t there. When Kobe
was`nt called for the hooking foul that was also ridiculus. The officals need to
let the players decide the game and not them. Hopefully game four will have
better officals but I doubt it.

How HORRIBLE was Poala Gasol last night! That just showed his lack of playoff
experience. Every time he got the ball he would do his patented
"ahhhhhhh" and then stare at the refs while the Jazz ran down and
scored. His defense was horrible, his offense was worse!
The Jazz all played hard for the entire game and that was good to see. We just gotta get this next game and then it's a 3 game series! BOO YA!!!

hustled, moved my feet on defense and tried to rebound and go after the ball it
would help my offense come around".

Actually, I live in California (Moved from Utah last summer). CA isn't the
greatest place in the world. The weather is nice and the people tend to be a
little less judgmental. However, I don't like english being the second
language and crime like nobody's business.

The refs did all they could to give the game to the Lakers. I know that we
can't expect EVERY call but it would be nice to have a little more
consistancy with the calls.
I'm not doubting that the Lakers are a good team, but I think that the NBA would love nothing more than a finals with the Celtics and the Lakers. I almost got the feeling that I was watching the WWF last night. The Jazz can take this series if they take it right to them.

The comments about Boon and Boller-hack are exactly why I will always choose the
national announcers over K-JZZ (that and the high-def...oh yeah). Boller
doesn't even understand the game. Boone obviously does know the game, and
it is fun to hear how he sometimes gets frustrated with Bollerjack, but he is
not anywhere near enough to carry the broadcast (nice guy but on-screen
personality of a cardboard cutout).

So far neither team has done anything. Both teams have won their games at home.
Unfortunatly for the Jazz that is all the Lakers have to do. coming into the
playoffs without home court does not lead to championships. I am just having fun
with each extra game the Jazz get to play this year.

close to the truth..The NBA does better when large markets like Chicago, LA or a

does anyone wonder how the Lakers stole Gasol, when teams like Minnesota, chicago were offering much more than rookies and soon to be free agents? The Memphis ownership wants to sell the team..and any prospective buyer has to be approved by the league.
it would seem too obvious for the league to suggest that trading a talented all star for little to a major market in exchange for a easier approval process.
with this in mind, i would like to see my Jazz team screw it up by winning...lol

Forget about the officiating it is the TV media that drives me crazy. Did you
hear the halftime announcers making excuses for Kobe because he was 1 for 5,
according to them it was because he was trying to get the other players
involved, thats riduculous. It was mostly good defense, and Kobe just
wasn't playing well in the first half, like he did in the second half. And
I agree with the person who pointed out the statement �you
know their going to give that foul to Bryant so I don�t
know why you would even try that�, admitting that Bryant is
goint to get calls that nobody else would get. On the NBA station all you heard
was the Jazz only won by five and it was LA's game to win, and that does
not look good for Jazz. However, when the Jazz came back the game before to
within four, the same announcers claim the Jazz just dont have enough to win
close games against the Lakers, and the game was never in doubt. But Peter
Vescey is the worst sports writer of all time, but that is another story.

Dude your geting pretty desperate when your naming football players, to show how
good your basketball team is. I could care less about Ty Detmer or any other
football player you have on your list. Your post was so lame what a joke. By the
way on your Utah list I believe only one or two were born in Utah. And becasue
you brought it up.... none of the Jazz players are LDS. Stop trying to take

Utah fans are already giving excuses as to why they won't win the series.
NBA wants Celtics,Lakers, Kobe gets star treatment, Phil Jackson intimidates
the refs, Gasol was stolen by the Lakers, Fisher lied. Okay lets add some more,
Elvis is still alive, JFK was killed by LBJ, Jimmy Hoffa is living secretly in
Hawaii. Typical Utah delusional fans, I guess it goes with all the other
delusional thinking that exists in this place.

Does Peter Vescey hate the Jazz? I swear I can�t remember
the last time he has said anything positive about Utah. I think I remember one
time when he mentioned that Utah fans hate him, can anyone confirm this?

I'm a Jazz fan! But the post about all the "star" players to
come out of Utah was a waste of time to read. The only thing Ty Detmer is known
for outside of Utah is his record for MOST INT's in a single game.
The bottom line is that all the real NBA followers knew this would be a brutal series! The Jazz and Lakers are both good teams this year! I feel the Jazz will win if they can convince Kobe that he has to do it ALL himself. That's why we won the game last night. Kobe reverted back to his old self and started jacking up every shot and yelling at team mates. The Jazz need to let him "do it all" and keep the role players out of the sequence. I've said Jazz in 7 all along and I'm sticking to it!

The Lakers and Dick Bevetta are a hard combo to beat, but the Jazz pulled it
off! Let's just hope we can knock the Lakers out before Steve Javie
returns to play.

Why is it that more Laker fans post on this board than the ones originating from
L.A.? Why is it that in the last few days there have been so many Laker fans
posting? Today not much is being heard from them. The only conclusions that I
can come up with are that they are only fair weather fans, trying to get under
the Jazz fan's skins, or they post only while at work. Either way, it is
nothing to be proud of Laker fans.

I am all about being positive minded and I think that is what the whole Jazz
team needs right now!A fan should also show support and this team definitely
deerserves that from all their fans! They are a team and the last game showed
it, they continue to play that way they will preform at their ultimate poential!
It is jsut gonna get better! I am very impressed with these group of young guys,
they need to be patient yet aggressive, they can and will outplay anyone if they
stay with humble, play smart and do not get discouraged, GO TEAM, everyone
contributing, everyone playing for each other! The best to you all, you are
incredible!

You won a home game! Whoop-de-doo! Now you have to do it again tomorrow. The
Lakers played like crap yesterday, and yet they still could have won the game.
Turnovers and lack of rebounding is what did L.A. in. The question for the Utah
fans is can Boozer have back to back good games?

That doesn't mean he is bringing in football players to make the Jazz look good, he was just pointing out that major talent has come out of the STATE of Utah. I don't even think he even said the word 'born' either so I dont know what pipe your smokin. Loneliest was making fun of the LDS church by his plural marriage comment, so he pointed out that some of the greatest athletes have been LDS.
You guys must be Kobe's groupies I'll bet. Oh by the way, Detmer passed for 5,188 yards and 41 touchdowns in 12 regular season games, and finished the year with 42 NCAA records and tied for five others in 1990. But not that it matters, this is a Jazz Lakers article anyway. Just thought I would point that out.
