My thought is that I'll be glad when he's an afterthought.

I think David is ready for success. His voice is exceptional although not perfect yet. With professional grooming I beleive he will be our next Elvis or close to it. You have taken the chance David. Do it. You have my support and best of luck.

David Archuleta wants to go to his High School Prom, like every other normal High School 17 Year old.
David A has seemed strained and anxious lately, always trying to please his father and seeking his approval. Jeff, David's father has been banned from backstage at American Idol, because of backstage meddling. Wynonna Judd recently reported that David's father, Jeff had been banned from the Star Search stage also because of unnecessary interference when David competed on this show.
"Jeff Archuleta's intense backstage involvement had become a source of concern for the series, the person connected with "American Idol" said but it was a lyric change on Tuesday's show that pushed producers to act.

Despite a warning, Jeff Archuleta insisted on altering "Stand by Me," one of two songs his son sang on the show Tuesday. By adding a verse from Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls," the father incurred additional costs for "American Idol," the person said." AP News 5/09/08 story.

David may need this opportunity to work with the other Vocal Coach and develop some confidence.
Good Luck David.

worldwide over, he is already the next american idol! a very, very special talent! a pure blessing! he probably has no idea at all how much he has already been inspiring people the world over! the perfect, refreshing and excellent package to fill the giant void of bigtime messed up hollywood!

I'll be glad when he's gone. I think he's overhyped and he massacres the songs he sings and deviates from the melody. If he'd just quit trying to be so cute and wholesome and not sing so many notes.
arkguy56 | 10:33 a.m. May 10, 2008
You either love David A or you hate him. He is a very good singer. I think he would be a lot better if his dad was out of the picture. It wont do any good to banned Jeff from back stage as long as he stay room mate with David. I think they need to ship Jeff back home.
Joe Moe | 11:01 a.m. May 10, 2008
I don't understand Roscoe. "He deviates from the melody"?!? All musicians do that. Artists even make different versions of their own songs. What kind of criticism is that?

I also just shake my head at all the people who adore his adorableness OR think it's some kind of sham. Whatever. It's about the music. How many of the artists in your current music collection are there because of their adorableness? Or are excluded because they're a "fake"?

That said, I think Archuleta has a beautiful, smooth voice, but little stage sense and no hook. Like I tell my wife about every time we hear him, he's got a great voice but I won't be buying his album. There's nothing to hear that engages me musically. The albums I'll buy are Brooke, Cook, and Syesha. They have a sound with a hook and higher entertainment value.

I'm not saying Archuleta has no potential. Maybe he will end up with a good songwriter, producer, and musicians to back him up and give him his own sound. Vocalists are only part of the show, after all. Take the best team and I'll bet even I could sell a good album!

He is like a 12 giddy 12 yr. old. David Cook is a singer. Go Cook

HE IS THE EPITOME OF THE REAL AMERICAN IDOL AND A GOOD ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG KIDS AND TEENAGERS. A TALENTED AND GIFTED KID.

David Cook...

David Archuleta is like a breath of fresh air in the music business. With him, what you see is what you get. He doesn't have to have shaggy hair and beard to hide behind. Or, too much fake jewelry to stand out. He doesn't try to hog the camera the way that DC guy does. Most of our greatest singers started out no older than DA.. What's the big deal? Does he have to be a pothead and look like a bum to be accepted??? Wake up people. David Archuleta is going to be around for a long time, so you're either on the bandwagon or you're walking..:-)

He is an incredible talent but I think he could have made it huge without American Idol.

I think that American Idol made a big mistake by banning his dad over some costs for a lyrics change. Like they aren't making a huge amount of money off of his minor son.

I have lost all respect for American Idol.
INSPIRATION | 6:36 p.m. May 10, 2008
The kid can sing and that is why he has a great fan base. His album sales will determine his greatness as a singer/performer. We'll just have to wait for that.

To all his critics: Try to see him for the things he does that are good, and also the things he is trying to accomplish in his future as well as for the future of his listeners. If you don't know much about him and the road he travels, I'm not going to tell you. Find out about a person before you judge and criticize them at all.

The David Cook Fans should also quit being so hateful. Most of the comments for David Archuleta have nothing to do with David Cook.

As a person I have every reason to support him in what he does, his singing ability confirms the reason I will support him. He is an inspiration.
Sheila | 6:52 p.m. May 10, 2008
I think David is very talented and the young audience love him! I can't wait for his album to come out; whether he wins American Idol or not or has a huge future....people have to VOTE to make sure he comes out #1!!

David Archuleta has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard! Smooth and velvety, rich and soulful, I get shivers every time I hear him sing. No matter what happens on American Idol he has captured the hearts of the world with his glorious voice and his sweet and humble nature....Thank you David, for sharing your amazing voice with the world! We love you and God bless you!
MrsBrown | 10:12 p.m. May 10, 2008
I am tired of David A. I think that EVERYTHING he sings sounds the same. Yeah, he's probably a nice enough kid but this isn't about being nice. It's about TALENT and he sings ok... but not well enough for the title of AMERICAN IDOL. David Cook is my pick. It's just obvious that he's ready and could cut a record and sell it NOW. David A's father irritates me to no end... but he is not the reason I won't vote for David A.
Anonymous | 12:28 a.m. May 11, 2008
I'm afraid that Am Idol is trying to set up David Cook to be the winner...because of: l. Song choice for the contestants this week 2; This thing about his father (David is still a minor after all). Does anyone else think this might unnerve David and get him off track? and I don't see another reason, but I'm sure one will emerge. Love David A..he's a phenom.
Brianna | 12:34 a.m. May 11, 2008
David Cook fans: Have you not heard David A. talk so positively about David Cook. Why can't you accept that both David's are amazing, but David Cook can only do rock, not everyone gets into solid rock, but he's good at it. David A. can inspire those that listen. He sings rock, he sings ballads and he does it with great power. You feel his love for music, but also his love for those that he performs for. Why can't we all be like David A. and love and accpet everyone. He never has a bad thing to say about anyone. He's simply amazing and we all love him.

David Archuleta may or may not win American Idol, however, he has been a very positive roll model for all young men, and young women for that matter. All 3 remaning contestants are very talented, and whomever is choosen for the "crown" and recording contract will be awesome in my eyes. My personal opinion is that David C. is talented and has a great voice, although not a consitant as David A. I also appears to me that he is somewhat limited in his vocal style. Syesha has an awesome voice, and will not doubt be successful on Broadway, which I'm sure she would love! Syesha however, also seems to be inconsistent in her performance.

With that said, I truly believe that our America could use many more David Archuleta "idols". He is exceptionally talented, and a very sweet and humble young man. He has been consistent week after week, and definately has a spot in the music industry!

David, I wish you luck! God bless you in your endeavor of reaching your dreams of being a great and influential musician. You are very special-- one of a kind!

I WILL BE VOTING FOR YOU!

I am disgusted with AI employee that went to the media
to create this hype. I wonder what was the motive behind it. This establishment was supposed to sequester the idol contestants and family while in competition. I think it is irresponsible in their part for letting
this issue goes out. This could have been dealt behind close door. They are fully aware, I'm sure, of
the consequences when one of their personnel goes to the media. It is a feeding frenzy. Their credibility
is on the line for letting this go out of control. There is no class. That employee shld be fired.

I am a strong supporter of David A. Something about him
that is unexplainable caught my heart and soul. I felt
the connection with him to a point that he move my
deepest emotion when I listen to him sing. Some of you
might think this lady is crazy. I enjoy watching him
sing,He makes me smile when I see him happy. He is
gifted with a voice that is soothing, haunting at times
magical and inspiring. His innocence, humility and
genuine kindness is a rare find at a young age of 17.
May God bless him and guide him in his journey thru life.
Bodhi K | 11:36 a.m. May 12, 2008
All David Cook can do is rip off songs that have already been covered by a rock band or singer. People think that he has been original all along because these covers are from bands that will never get played on top 40 radio.

David A is the real deal and the best singer of the competition. I think that he will win the competition and be sucessful. One thing for sure is that his Utah days are over. He has probaly already moved to LA.

I agree with mandy. we love David Archuleta... When my family saw his first audition he really made an impression-singing with Randy (that was soo cool) we knew he was the one to watch. Then I found out he is from Murray where I grew up and went to the same High school. I am proud to have someone like David A represent Murray UTAH!! I have a daughter his age and she metioned it would be wonderful if more "guys" were like him - fun, honest, caring, and innocent -not to mention cute!!!!! I look forward to each Tuesday night- !!! I wish him the best - he deserves it!!! (there will be a big change on Tuesday nights we we can't see David A.)

Daivd archuleta comes off as a cute little teenage boy. That'll only get you so far. If he wins, he'll either drop right away or have one hit and become a one hit wonder. Don't vote for him. VOTE SYESHA!
Steve - Re: Bodhi K | 3:50 p.m. May 12, 2008
David Cook is ripping off songs??? Um, no he's not. He and ALL the contestants (including Archuleta) are covering someone else's song... none of them sing original material on the show.

What David Cook has been doing is delivering much more creative versions of some of the songs he's done, putting his TALENT to work. His version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" earlier this season (near the start of the final 12) was absolutely brilliant! This guy is the real deal, not Archuleta.

While a very good singer, having a great voice, David Archuleta is a definate work in progress. He has alot of things to work on. Right now he's just a "one trick pony" who sits there in his safety zone sticking to ballads (he's yet to trully sell an up-beat/rock song and seem natural). His major problem is the delivery of his songs... they all sound the same, like a ballad. He doesn't alter his style to fit the song... sings them all like a power ballad.

Then you have people like David Cook & Carly who are well rounded and can do both rock and ballads equally as well. Carly should still be in this.
Steve - Role Models | 5:34 p.m. May 12, 2008
Fans of David Archuleta keep touting how he would be a great/the best role model. Well that's not what this show is about. It's about finding the best recording artist that season.

So even if a contestant has a less than stellar personal life that shouldn't matter... what we're judging here is their voice, any musical talent (writing and/or instruments they play), and their stage presence.

This isn't about finding the country's most squeeky clean and morally upstanding person. Perhaps they should start another show for that.

If we were going on pure all around talent, the entire package/showmanship, this season the final two should've been David Cook and Carly Smithson hands down easy.

David Cook is probably a nice guy and is talented. I'm not a big rock fan, so he doesn't appeal to me that much. I also get tired of him because everything he sings sounds the same--he starts out slow and growling, ends with screams and the grimace. Hard rock fans will like him, others not so much.

David Archuleta has an incredibly beautiful, passionate and emotive voice. I love singing along with him on the CD I made of his songs. He's also a very appealing character, charming, and way past cute which doesn't hurt.

Here's what an eonline reporter said of David's Idol performance last week:

"But tonight, sitting in the live audience at Idol, I came to the realization that no matter who you are or what your age, when you hear David Archuleta in person, it is hard not to admit: He is so undeniably talentedWITH A VOICE SO FLAWLESS AND DYNAMIC AND PURE, IT ACTUALLY RESONATES IN YOUR SOULthat he probably most deserves to be the winner of this year's American Idol. (It would explain why HE GOT THE ONLY FULL-AUDIENCE STANDING O's of the nightand TWO of them, at that!)" [my emphasis]

Archuleta rocks!
Bookaholic | 10:05 a.m. May 14, 2008
I love how David makes a song new each time he sings it. They're never the same.

This guy observed/described it extremely well:

"You'll notice that the improvised lines are very different from the other link (comparing live and studio versions). David is doing that on the flyhis melodic instinct guiding him through those phrases. That's his gift.

It's like watching a cat spinning in midair to land on its feet every time. It seems like he just can't fail to glide into the perfect landing on those phrases, and they're different every time. This is what David A. does without thinking.

David has a beautiful, smoky pop voice, but also the musical sophistication of a good jazz singer. If he visited the studio 5 or 6 times to record this song, believe me, it would come out differently each and every time. His virtuosity makes him like a musical gyroscope, he'll tilt this way in one session, another way in the next session, but it always comes out exactly right.

When David is allowed free reign over his own artistic choices, he'll be in a class of his own. He's the genius of the group, no question about it."
Steve - Archuleta No Genius | 12:21 p.m. May 14, 2008
Brookaholic I think what you shared is from another person looking through rose tinted glasses at David Archuleta.

Here's something that I feel is more accurate (about his song "With You"), today at the popular entertainment website Zap2it:

"Whoa. I take back what I said about Li'l' Archie always playing it safe. This is a contemporary song that requires Archuleta to make repeated references to his "boo." Nice. And absurd. That's the complimentary part. David looks absolutely lost on the up-tempo song. He can't handle the rhythm at all. Even with all of the R&B touches from the original removed, Archuleta still has to hit words and notes on a beat and he's never had to do that before this season. He treats it as a pseudo-ballad, mumbles some of the lyrics and his normally spot-on pitch fails him repeatedly. He varies his performance slightly by going to the edge of the stage and half-heartedly cooing to the girls in the mosh pit, but he can't dance -- so much of Chris Brown's personal is based on his mobility -- and all he can do is gesture to the crowd in the same way he's been doing all season."
