I remember on time, he was not going to attend a sunday playoff game (maybe we
were playing with Bulls??), and he eventually show up after half time.

It is interesting that Larry will not go to the game on Sunday,but it is
inconsistent to say the least in how the Miller Group does business.

So you can't have a religious experience at a ballgame? That's
basically what the LDS Church is saying correct?................stay away form
activities that are non-religious in nature. Isn't religion a personal
thing anyway..............

I also think you should do what yourt heart tells you to do Larry with one
modification---keep Sloan at home with you, maybe that would result in a good
game outcome.

To Derrick: the LDS church has made no such distinction. It encourages us to do
things that are uplifting on Sundays and leaves the individual details to us.

I respect anyone's decision regarding Sunday activities. But it is
interesting how Larry Miller stays home on Sunday while his resturaunts and
theaters stay open requiring his employees to work. The Marriots do the same
while their hotels sell lots of booze and porn everyday of the week. BYU does it
right - everything shuts down on Sundays. No sports played and students are on
their own for food.

Why does this need to be announced by Larry Miller? I appreciate his
willingness to stand for what he believes but it sounds very self-promoting to
have to announce what his personal intentions are regarding The Sabbath.
While he is the owner of the team, he doesn't bear any role in the outcome of the game. Whether he attends the game or not doesn't matter.
Personal conviction in what he believes would be more convincing without having to announce it to the world (Utah).

When I was at BYU, the dorm cafeterias were always open on Sunday. The Cougar Eat was closed, but not the dorm cafeterias. Maybe they've changed it. But back in 1995, they were open. My wife even worked there washing dishes on Sunday. A similar crew feeds all of the missionaries on Sunday over at the MTC. Sometimes, working on Sunday is a necessity and even the church pays some of their employees to do it.
I spent a semester at BYU Jersualem and we held our sabath day on Saturday. We were encouraged to go out and shop on Sunday while we were living there. BYU's Jersualem cafetaria was still open on the Sabbath--except for the first two meals on the first Saturday of each month (in observance of fast Saturday).
So please give Larry a break. He decided a long time ago how he was going to live his life and he has enriched so many others lives along the way.

Good question, but it says the Tribune reported this. That probably means they asked whether he would see the game on Sunday, and he answered honestly. He probably did not bring it up himself.
Your quarrel is with the Tribune and their tendency to stir up anti-LDS fervor, not with Larry.

great story of your life - you should write a book. Maybe you could title it
"A waste of time" or "How to bore someone to death" or maybe
just "buzzkill."
This story about Larry is almost as boring as yours. He says the same thing every year - when we are in playoffs - I guess the regular season is cool. But he always seems to show up at the game - duh Larry.

Remember a few years back when he was attending a playoff game at the delta
center on a sunday and due to his "strong religous convictions" sat
somewhere in the back halls of the delta center behind a curtain?? Did he think
that was a more religous spot?? It seemed to me that he looked more like the
great and powerful "wizard of oz" What a joke!! Just go sit in the
stands and enjoy the game,Larry. Gosh knows the game and it's outcome is
the only thing on your mind at that time anyway.

Sounds like a religious stand not a spiritual one. Larry's going to have
updates by his wife so he is essentually going against his stand on it any
way.

The Bible says that the Master and his servants shall obey the Sabbath.
Unfortunately, he broke that by allowing his people to play basketball. I hope
this does not happen again.
