Another government department to protect mine owners? We already have the DWFS protecting other business owners from the labor forces. So this may be another department to further discourage labor unions or any organized labor in Utah. Utah's government is notorious for making sure that the working people get no representation or government support. If Utah's legislators and government cared at all about it's work force it would encoruage organized labor and fair labor laws for the workers. We have enough fair labor laws for the corporate side now we need some laws protecting and giving fair labor pay and benefits to the workers, and I don't mean just blue collar workers, we all need some changes and government support. The federal laws are not enough and they know it. This new department is just a sham and waste of money for Utah and the working people as it will only duplicate the federal laws. Workers can't complain about employers as they get fired or forced in to unbearable working conditions and quit. Like getting threatened they can be replaced by an illegal mexican that works for less. Then once you quit or get fired you can't file a complaint.

The creation of this new division is an asset to the mine employees of the State of Utah. Unions seem to do a good job with respect to job safety of its members, however, another over sight group of those, in particular, who are not union members have stronger voice with less chance of threat and intimidation from company management and company officials. I find this an added asset for the States voice, which will augment safety regulations imposed by OSHA and other Federal regulators.
