Go feds!!!! If you cross the state line you are now in federal jurisdiction. It is about time.
WOW... | 7:40 a.m. May 9, 2008
...it only took a hundred years!
Tolman | 8:01 a.m. May 9, 2008
Brent Tolman is the chief law enforcement officer for the state of Utah, as he recently stated. Of course, his statement flies in the face of the Constitution, but that minor matter has never concerned him in the least. He's shown his perennial disrespect for the elected District Attorney and other elected, constitutional officers. Utah has long been disenfranchised by the federal government, largely stemming from religious bias. It is sad that Tolman now talks of cooperation, when he could have ordered the hundreds of federal agents under his direct command to combat illegal immigration and crimes committed by illegal immigrants, as well as tackling drugs in our community. That would have been a show of cooperation.

Mr. Tolman, you've proven yourself to be a master of the press conference. Now prove that you understand your role as an UNELECTED official who ought to have brought your carpet bag to this state prepared to stay and cooperate. You were appointed, not anointed. Though you are accountable to no one in this state, perhaps our congressional representatives can hold you to a pledge of cooperation. Then again, given your record of uncooperation, probably not.

If UT & AZ won't do the job, it's time someone did!

I am shocked that the Senate Majppority leader is supporting the legalized kidnapping of the Flds children. Apparently, the lack of due process in this case does not disturb a bigot likr Harry Reid

Get over it already! I can't believe how much mileage ya'll are squeezing outta Reid's comment. I'm guessing Shurtleff is a lot less concerned about it than your publication. Besides, don't ya know your esteemed editor has already informed us that polygamy pales in comparison to BIG issues like teen sex and the Molly Cyrus photos in Vanity Fair? Mr. Evensen's acumen in the realm of social science makes him the perfect emissary-send him to Texas and things should be right as rain in a jiffy. Is there so little going on in Utah that you can't leave this dead horse alone? And, by the way, KUER is on the campus of the University of Utah, but has no affiliation with the school. KUTE is the institution's radio station. Crack journalism! Nicely done!

What "epidemic of lawlessness in polygamous communities"? Perhaps the reason authorities can't find evidence is that it doesn't exist, that there is no such epidemic, and they are paying altogether too much attention to the disaffected. Well, there isn't a group of people anywhere that doesn't have some disaffected people. The notion that government should single out any subculture for criminal investigation simply because the subculture is different should trouble everyone. If authorities can single out fundamentalist Mormons for unequal treatment under the law, they can do it to anyone. Maybe even you.
huh? | 8:17 p.m. May 9, 2008
Huh? Mark, please. Read the stories about the FLDS and why the civilized world had to move. It is called rape. It is called child abuse. It is called ...

that is why the state has to move in. This little cult, this little cult, has wagged its finger in the faces of the AGs in Utah and AZ. But they goofed when they did it in Texas. TX apparently has guts. TX apparently believes in protecting the children from the abusers.

God Bless Texas.

Latter day saints are polygamy by their own words, the "FlDS" are true mormons and yes that is nuts

What prevents Utah and Arizona from charging the begimists who are seeking the church to vest some
hoodo value on extra marital sex partners?

The state does license legitimate marrage and the rights of the children who result.

Otherwise it is still the state who manages the support
needed when parents either will not or can not properly care for children. Education is pathetic in these states given state leaders do there duty under the law.
