Interesting article; but I have never heard the description of a Knock and Announce Warrant for apparently misdemeanor possession or use of Marijuana to include at least twelve swat team members, or as in the case of Stewart in Ogden, was this a major felony search warrant?
That is probably where it is most confusing for me and thank you for letting me ask the question.
I fully support the cops and appreciate the real dangers they face.
However, law enforcement in the U.S. has become overly "militarized" and far too often uses overwhelming violent force in making searches, often hitting the wrong address, and/or doing extensive property damage at a valid address but of an innocent person. Every year a few innocent people are killed by cops making a raid over relatively minor charges.
Our justice system protects the rights of the accused, and rightly so, and such uses of excessive force must not be tolerated.
Sadly, sometimes the actual bad guys come out shooting and cops get hurt, like happened in Ogden. Sounds like there may havae been better options to take this guy down if it was expected that he would resist.
Better to miss a couple of bad guys than to end up killing a bunch of innocent citizens by escalating cop violence after an incident like Ogden.
