Too whiny and desperate and unconvincing in debates and in speeches. Holds ideas that are scientifically wrong. Does not inspire as a leader, only as an idealogue. A Washington insider at a time when a changing of the guard is needed. Could not attract the "independent" vote and beat Obama.
Too many strikes.
@Thinkin\' Man
...and how is your description any different than the other GOP candidates?
With no clear GOP platform to support, I am going Independent. I am afraid the Republican party is destroying itself from within. There is no one clear candidate. It seems that the states are as divided as I have ever seen. Pres. Obama is smiling all the way to the bank. All he has to do now is wait out the Republicans and they will destroy themselves. As long as the economy seems to show some signs of life, he is in. I don't see any improvements in the near future for the Republican Party.
I just saw Huntsman's interview on Leno. He really made a lot sense. He isn't strident. I wish he was still in the race. Heck, I wish he would run as an independent. I think I would give him a strong look. The Republican voters are a joke. It's Bachman, it's Cain, it's Newt, it's Miit, it's Santorum and some where in between Donald Trump or fantasies by many for Palin to run. Perhaps Huntsman getting no traction is a statement of positive for him.
I think Mitt's the most qualified for the job, and especially for turning around the economy, but he comes across as a rich elitist which puts off a lot of people. I also think his negative campaigning will hurt him more in the long run then help him.
Santorum? Really? Holy cow.
The proof is piling up that the conservative movement has deteriorated into little more than a self-destructive and incoherent primal scream, akin to a four year-old's tantrum thrown in response to being told it's time to take a bath.
We Republicans are famous for letting the Rush Limbaugh crowd lead us right down the path to our own destruction. Santorum and Gingrich cannot win in a national election. If we want another four years of the most destructive President in our history, (Obama) then lets let the Limbaugh crowd run the show. This is simply awful.
Mit needs to focus on winning the nomination, rather than pretending it is a fait a complete. I was listening to a radio show here locally that is pretty balanced and they were talking about the issue he has of percieved secrecy. His wealth is peppered with off shore accounts and mysteriously low tax rates, and most people know little about the LDS church. It isn't they think either are bad, but that there are just a lot of unknowns with Mit.
And that is a rather sad statement considering he has been running now for almost 5 years straight. If people don't get him yet, after 5 years, another 2 or 3 months isn't going to change much. He may still have win the nomination, but to do so he needs to spend more time letting people know who he is - rather than focusing on who he isn't (Obama).
Just my 2 cents...
With so much negativity, the nation is saying that Obama is better than what the GOP is bringing to the table.
All this plus Newt's not really done, wait for the south. In addition Boehners inability to dliver any form of common sense action in the house..total disaray. My prediction is the Republicans have no nominee going into Tampa.
I remember four years ago when the conservatives were making the same kind of snarky remarks about the Democratic party that the liberals are making now about the Republican party. It is all just Politics. It is how the system works. Nothing new here. Read up on the campaign between Jefferson and Adams and you will see a vicious fight that makes today's bickering seem tame.
So many fail to integrate a historical perspective in their views. That is why we are doomed to repeat history.
If Huntsman say teamed up with a moderate Democrat like Lieberman or Bill Richardson or General Wesley Clark, I think people would vote for that candidate. Heck, he might even find another moderate Republican out there hiding under a rock. Who knows?
Don't be shocked if Ron Paul, with his very significant (despite what the press says) Libertarian movement, which appeals to many voters on both the right and young voters on the left, decides to run as a third candidate, especially with all this chaos. While I think a winner will emerge by Tampa, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't. This is sort of looking like 1976 and that election didn't go well for the Republicans though it set up Reagan for later. But if the goal is to win this election cycle, the R's don't seem to have a clue...
As a Romney supporter, I wish he would step out of the race and let the repubs lose the election. Romney is not perfect, but compared to the rest in this race and the liberal genius that is in the WH he stands head and shoulders over all of them. He is too qualified to run for a party that is controlled by evangelicals and right wing robots. santorum's entire career has been on the taxpayers dime. newt has no moral compass and although paul seems like a decent person has no chance of winning the election. Good luck repubs, you have just lost another independent conservative.
It may be too late, but should Romney want to try to turn things around, and garner voters, he MUST..
Try to connect with the general public. The wealthy are his friends, we know that already.
Stop the aggressive war mongering.
Be a cheerleader for women's rights.
Somehow discuss specifics of his religion.
Give us a plan to get citizens employed again.
Give us a decent plan to return people to homes without having wealthy corporations buy up their homes and rent them back to them.
There are numerous issues not mentioned here that Mitt needs to discuss with the nation in order to convince us that he should be President.
The public's confidence is Romney is fading fast.
Isn't this fun? Every one loves a good comedy. The clown car is still alive and well.
m.g. "For all of you who have Obama back in the White House for another 4 years, remember the 2010 elections. There is nothing to indicate that the fervor of that election will be anything less in 9 months. That election was about Obama then, and it will be about Obama this time. The Republicans could nominate Pee Wee Herman and still beat Obama"..I'm just going to tuck this away for a few months, because actually there are lots of indicators that the fervor is considerably less..and what have the 2010 inductees accomplished..NOTHING..run on that.
Romney is inspiring as a leader and speaker, has solid conservative policies, and has executive experience that no other candidate has. He is not a Washington insider like Santorum, Gingrich, and yes, even Ron Paul (24 years is too long!). He has over a decade of one-on-one personal counseling experience. He has the right experience that is needed today. He knows how to garner support for his ideas, and polls show that of the Republican candidates he matches up against Obama the best. I believe the math adds up to Romney being the only good choice in the Republican field -- that is, if they want to win in November.
Huntsman was the only repub candidate who would have made a good President. He could have won a lot of independent support.
I agree with the other comments about how as a party, the repubs are just losing it. They are no longer practical, pragmatic or justified in their actions. Their sole purpose appears to be to enrich the wealthiest 1% at the expense of the poor and middle class. That is not moral or ethical but that's what they're doing.
If they did have ethics, they would be in favor of protecting the environment, funding education, funding healthcare and cutting military spending. They are on the ethical and moral wrong side of those issues.
Go Huntsman (I wish) and go Obama!
Will the true conservative that swept Minnesota and Colorado sweep Utah too?
I have been consistently behind Rick Santorum for over a year now. I have to say that a lot of the claims by those who disagree with Santorum are based more on the "Progressive" Media's one-sided depiction of his positions than anything else.
Santorum is a consistent advocate of the pro-life position who has walked the walk as well as talked the talk. At the same time he is a realist who has the skills of getting legislation through congress. He was the key figure in passing the ban on partial-birth abortion. He was able to mobilize senators who on every other vote went the way Planned Parenthood wanted them to on this issue.
Romney lacks a consistently pro-life and pro-marriage position. He has not been willing to risk political capital in defense of marriage. While Romney's attacks on Obama's attempts to force Catholic institutions to fund items they religiously oppose are wise actions, Santorum has the long record of consistently being a social conservative. Romney's "flip-flopping" is probably over-stated, but in both 1994 and 2002 he did not speak as a social conservative.
I probably could vote for Romney in the general election, but would feel much more comfortable with voting for Santorum. Santorum has the consistent record of being a social conservative that can mobilize the key voters.
