I'm far from being a Tea Party supporter and I don't support Hatch. He failed to pursue changes in gov positions important to us all (e.g., immigration, SS, Medicare) when he was in the majority and chairing committees. Now, that he's losing support, he suddenly claims heâll work to change things. You're too late, Mr. Hatch. We'll send someone to D.C. who will represent us.

I am not going to attack Hatch. Rather I am just going to go to the caucus on March 15 and vote for a delegate who will not vote for an incumbent, especially one that has been in office for 36 years (too long). The only other caucus that I have EVER been to was successful in that regard.

Since Utah became a State in 1896, it has been represented by fourteen Senators. The average term for a Senator has been 14.7 years. Mr. Hatch has hung on to his position since 1977. He's been in office for 35 years!

Many people in the Military retire after twenty-years. Most teachers retire after thirty-years. The only people who stay on the job after thirty-five years are kings.

Utah has no royalty.

Of the more than three million people living in Utah, there is surely at least one who can do a much BETTER job than Mr. Hatch. His "I'm the only guy who can do the job" attitude is enough to fire him. He is not the only guy who can do the job. In fact, based on his campaign promises, he hasn't done anything because it's always "next time". I've heard his promises five times too often. He will not get my vote.

The problem with the Tea Party is that they complain about only 1/2 the problem and are manipulated by special interest groups. Their dis-satisfaction is not really unlike the Occupy movement, at least the real TeaP's.

Are you talking about the same Orrin Hatch who once called for a new Constitutional Convention?

And wold it not be fair should Hatch not be subjected to the same slime he himself meted out on Frank Moss and other opponents. Don't cry for Orrin, Utah. Cry for yourselves if you elect someone even more extreme than Orrin like you did in 2010.

I'm not a tea partier and I can tell you, I'm looking forward to Hatch going back to PA and leaving Utah forever.

Hatch needs to go.

He also needs to be replaced by an honest, sensible man.

That man is Pete Ashdown.

Then WHY do you keep electing him?

First off, these are my "outsider views", never abusive, offensive, off-topic, misrepresentative, just the truth.

Hatch has always been known as one of the most RINO conservative members of Congress. He's almost like Santa, when it comes to Pork Spending and Earmarks. Even Santa brings me every year things like cigarettes, booze, twinkies, designer clothes, iPods, and video games. But I have not been likewise inspired by Hatch's actions in his DREAM Act. With him and the LDS Church has spent the past year pushing for a more accepting approach to the country's illegal immigrants. The church's lobbying was instrumental last year in passing a controversial Utah law that allows illegal immigrants who pay a fine and pass a background check to obtain a work permit. Presiding Bishop H. David Burton signed the Utah Compact, a declaration that condemns deportation policies that separate families. The church issued a series of statements criticizing "enforcement only" approaches to immigration reform and supporting allowing some illegal immigrants to stay in the United States. I say deport these illegals and fire Hatch now.

I told ya'll I would tell you the truth.

I didn't say you would like it.

Hatch is done.

The cart before the horse, ues ruch right out and move a home here, after all there are plenty of preforeclosures in Utah (UT) along with bankruptcy homes and government HUD foreclosures. Hatch, Lee Introduce Legislation to Resolve Land Ownership for Homeowners Near Scofield Reservoir

Senator Mike Lee and I introduced legislation that allows for the transfer of ownership of certain federal lands surrounding the Scofield Reservoir in Carbon County. Within the last few years it has been discovered that dozens of homes around the Reservoir are encroaching on land owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation , meaning that homeowners do not own the land underneath their homes. The legislation allows the homeowners to purchase the land from the Bureau.

Mosiah 4: 16-18

"16 And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; and ye will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain, and turn him out to perish.

17 Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food, nor impart unto him of my substance that he may not suffer, for his punishments are justâ

18 But I say unto you, O man, whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent; and except he repenteth of that which he hath done he perisheth forever, and hath no interest in the kingdom of God."

There are many of us Latter Day Saints who disagree wholeheartedly with some commentary on this board. We believe it is a duty and blessing to unconditionally give to the poor; we also provide no quarter to those members who make excuses against such giving.

Orrin Hatch is a political animal. He's not interested in the Constitution- he helped Author the Patriot Act and supported the NDAA- these go against our Constitution. He supported the Auto and Bank bailouts- our Country doesn't give Government the right to redistribute plundered property so our leaders can line their pockets with money. Half a lifetime in D.C. has made him extremely wealthy- he's not a Champion of the Constitution- but of Tyranny from D.C.

Ah yes, King Benjamin.

He also told the "Rich" they needed to work for their money just like everybody else, regardless of how much they had.

Money Changing on WallStreet, Speculating, and Corporate raiders who make $$$ out of nothing are just guilty of being "Idle" as the poor who expect something for nothing.

No coincedence that Jesus threw Money-changers out, and had such compasion to ALL the poor, sick and needy.

Great comment Stalwart Sentinel,
I've always enjoyed reading your comments and in-sight.

====================

I can complain, because I've never once voted for Orrin Hatch.

You have been for 35 years.
That's the hypocracy and total irony with your comments.

BTW - I don't vote for saints or blindly follow Political Parties.
I vote for who I feel best represents me, regardless of Party, Religion, Race, Gender, Sexual Orientation or even AGE.

D&C 56:

"16 Wo unto you rich men, that will not give your substance to the poor, for your riches will canker your souls; and this shall be your lamentation in the day of visitation, and of judgment, and of indignation: The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and my soul is not saved!"

Mike Richards, given your posts today, it may seem prudent that you scale back the external attacks on LDS Liberal, et al and focus on the admonitions given by King Benjamin and Joseph Smith. To be sure, your beam ought to call far more attention than the mote of others.

To "LDS Liberal" tell us, what option has there been to Hatch that reflects the values of the people in Utah?

The Democrat party does not reflect the values of the people in utah, so that usually eliminates their canidate. So tell us, who has been on the ballot that reflects the people of Utah?

To "Stalwart Sentinel" you forgot the next verse in that scripture. D&C 56:16-17
16 Wo unto you rich men, that will not give your substance to the poor, for your riches will canker your souls; and this shall be your lamentation in the day of visitation, and of judgment, and of indignation: The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and my soul is not saved!

17 Wo unto you poor men, whose hearts are not broken, whose spirits are not contrite, and whose bellies are not satisfied, and whose hands are not stayed from laying hold upon other menâs goods, whose eyes are full of greediness, and who will not labor with your own hands!"

The poor who will not work and are not satisfied with what they get are equally as guilty as those who will not share. FYI, according to various studies it is the Conservative that is more likely to give to support causes that help the poor. Liberals, on the rare occasion they give to a charity, give to high society charities like symphonies and opera companies and other things that do not help the poor.

Verle, here's the deal. He's old, and he's not perpetually entitled to that seat. Utah wants it back. It has nothing to do with being conservative or not.

Redshirt - Verse 17 was not forgotten, it simply does not apply here. If we have the means, we are required to give, irrespective of the status of the individuals to whom we give. Were this discussion to be focused on how the poor will be viewed, then Verse 17 would apply and 16 would not. But we are currently talking about the giving aspect, not the receiving. Nonetheless, I am happy that you concede individuals like Mike Richards are guilty of refusing to share and will be held accountable, on that we agree.

Re: giving - I understand your point but I think you may be looking at "giving" in a narrow context and deriving a somewhat shallow conclusion. Indeed, I do not consider my tithes/offerings as "giving" though most Christians chalk donations to their church as such. Furthermore, the difference in opinion regarding the role of government and religion lends some insight into what is "giving" to one person and "giving" to another. Irrespective of that, I agree that liberals need to give more, so do conservatives; we all need to step it up. However, your insistance on pointing the finger every which way but towards yourself is mighty telling.
