How many Utahns will overlook how Romney "misspeaks"? A fact-check reveals far worse than choosing the wrong words. Romney has told complete lies that are documented! How will Utahns with their self-described moral high road ignore such an immoral approach to campaigning? I'm guessing most will simply ignore the lies.

"If any ... opponent ... his "misspoken" statement against him, we can and will see these opponents as what they really are, politicians whose only interest is to try to better their own position."

So, by that same reasoning, could we say that Mr. Romney was a "politician whose only interest is to try to better (his) own position" when, last November, his campaign produced an ad that took President Obamaâs words out of context to make it sound different than what he actually meant? Would that be reasonable?

As a reminder, the ad quoted the president saying, "If we keep talking about the economy, weâre going to lose." When what he actually said was, "Senator McCainâs campaign actually said, and I quote, if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose.

When questioned about this tactic Mr. Romney responded, "There was no hidden effort on the part of our campaign. It was instead to point out that what's sauce for the goose is now sauce for the gander."

Hopefully he still believes those words.

I agree that the "not concerned about the poor" comment is really not a big deal when taken in context.

It was overblown for political advantage.

We should all take it upon our selves not to perpetuate the untrue about any candidate, regardless of party.

Wow!! This is incredible. The party of blame spends the last three years pointing their fingers at the Repbulicans for everything that has gone wrong. And now they want to take complete credit for the safety net that is in place for the poor - a safety net that has been being formed for 3/4 of a century. Unbelievable!!

Well, I hope they do take credit for it because paying for that safety net is turning middle class people into the poor. Our middle class is being hammered by Obama and his administration. And I hope some Obama-ites can see it before it is too late.

Their ultimate goal is to get enough people on the public trough that they can win elections in perpetuity - even if it means they will ultimately adminster a third world country. It doesn't matter to them what they rule over. They just lust for power.

And when it happens that the Dems are running a third world country, they will still be blaming the Republicans.

Let's be honest, Romney was not "complimenting" President Obama. What a joke. But when you talk about using "misspoken" statements against Romney, "we can and will see these opponents as what they really are, politicians whose only interest is to try to better their own position", this clearly should also apply to Romney himself. Romney has told some real whoppers.

Ike J May, bless your heart, we get it. The real issue here is what his record is and what he has proposed. It comes down to what day it is. The safety net would have more holes in it after he got through with it.

Do we need another thread on this subject? Romney made the same comment multiple times during the debates. In context he spoke about the need to concentrate on the impoverished middle class who have lost ground over the last generation.

Now can we talk about Nevada's voter fraud and investigate who really won the caucuses in Nevada, and who actually came second with only 71% of the votes published, Clark County being undocumented and Washoe County complaining that the GOP is repeatedly misrepresenting the vote count in that county. Can we discuss the irregularities occurring nationwide in these elections?

The biggest disadvantage the republicans have in the coming election is their tin ear. I've listened to comments about this statement on MSNBC and Fox news and the only place it's ever taken out of contex is on Fox. Every time a commentator on MSNBC plays the tape they play the whole conversation..because..the point is as ugottabekiddin said, what is his record and what has he proposed. By not focusing on the very poor he means, raising their taxes by 20%, dismantling medicaid, and medicare and replacing it with a phony voucher, not extending unemployment benefits, and letting the foreclosure process just contine to throw thousands maybe millions of hardworking poor who are trying to do the right thing out in the street.

Also to Joe5, no one on the thread claimed credit for the saftey net..that was the letter writer who was being sarcastic..tin ear again.

What does he plan to do to help the "very poor" to not continue to be "very poor?"

What a tragedy that in America the "poor" own cell-phones and wear $100 jeans, but they can't afford to feed themselves.

The tragedy is that the Democrats perpetuate poverty. They keep people on welfare. They penalize those provide for themselves.

The tragedy is that the "poor" are pawns used by the Democrats. The insensitive and uncaring Democrats see nothing wrong with encouraging fathers to abandon their families so that the mother can get food stamps. They see nothing wrong will keeping families in drug-infested ghettos so that government will always have an excuse to "provide" for the "poor".

What has changed since FDR decided to help the poor? Nothing except the exponential growth of the "poor". They are constantly told that they can't succeed, that they can't learn, that they can't produce, that they are incapable of getting off drugs, that men will always abandon their children - and that Washington is their savior.

The "poor" are cared for by those who refuse to listen to the government rhetoric.

Let Mr. Obama mentor a family. Let him teach them how to vacation and how to play golf. He's on "welfare" as much as they are.

The doctrines of the democratic party appeal to the two ends of the intellectual spectrum:

1)The uneducated who tend to be poor because they are ill suited for the work place (and who are easily bought and paid for by democrats' largesse with money stolen from the nation's producers); and
2) Ivory tower intellectuals who are puffed up with philosophies, idealisms, and rhetoric but lack both common sense and a practical understanding of life.

If we were honest with ourselves and each other we would admit that the "saftey net" has become a dependancy trap! What's the solution? You need food stamps, housing assitance, unemployment benefits? Fine, your shift at cleaning the court house windows, cleaning up trash along the interstate or whatever work we assign you is,such and such! The left would howl but that's because they don't understand how to end dependacy and foster self reliance!

Mike Richards says all the poor are wearing $100 jeans and have cell phones. I'm not sure what poor you are talking about Mike Richards, but I've seen some pretty poor people in my life that fit the description of being poor.
If you Mike Richards want to justify your position on the poor by convincing yourself that they have $100 jeans and cell phones you continue to do so. But the reality is much different than your partisan position on the matter.

Selective criticism, out of context quotes and gotcha moments always seem to out weigh intelligent analysis when it comes to political campaigns. Romney's opponents will focus on anything but the current sovereign debt and our failed economic policies.

I get tired of Romney and his supporters always being "victims."

They claim that religion shouldn't be a part of the election. When just a few years ago they were out to smear Obama and his religion. He was first a Muslim then a Christian with a terrorist Pastor. Then... He wasn't even American...

Basically, everything that is happening to Romney, whether it be words taken out of context, smear campaigns, religion, etc. Romney and his party has done before.

Clean up the inner vessel before you complain about others.

Until then, Romney is just another politician to me.

The "honest poor" take care of themselves. They don't hold out a hand to government. My family has been poor. We never applied for government assistance nor have we accepted any government assistance. We cut all expenses and then, when dinnertime came, if there wasn't enough to fill us up, we tightened our belts.

I am vary familiar with the "welfare" poor. I know exactly what they do, how they hide every nickle so that they will still qualify for welfare, how they spend their food stamps on things that most families will never be able to afford.

Not all of the poor do that; it is a learned pattern. After 80 years of instruction by parents who have always been on welfare and from government workers whose jobs depend on those people staying on welfare, MANY have learned their lesson well. They know the tricks and they have been told by family and by the government that they DESERVE a lifetime handout.

This much I can guarantee you, the "poor" would not wear the wornout clothes that I wear when I'm out of public view.

Two things will prevent me from voting for Romney:

1. His promise to kill "Obamacare" and return millions of Americans to life without hope.

2. His endorsement from Trump.

Seriously, though, there are more. Many more.

Obama in 2012.

To embarrassed Utahn: Intelligent supporters of any candidate do not simply ignore whenever their guy misspeaks or takes liberty with the truth. They weigh the strengths and weaknesses of their candidate with those of the others in the race.

Every time Romney says something controversial, people like you can't fathom how so many continue to support him. The question really is - Who else has a better plan? Sure Romney has made many mistakes, but are you saying the other candidates haven't?

You say that Romney has "told complete lies that are documented". Are you saying that Gingrich and Obama haven't??? If so, maybe there is a real reason to be embarrassed.

I'm glad you brought this up, that when Mitt Romney stated that he is "not concerned about the very poor," this of course, created a firestorm in the political talk of the day".

Here's a reply back I wish to share with many Utahns as well.

2/6/2012

Dear Brother Chuck Schroeder:

Thank you for contacting me to offer your comments and suggestions for my campaign as I run for President of the United States of America.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write me with your thoughts for my campaign. I will certainly keep these sentiments in mind as we move forward through the election cycle.

Again, thank you for your email. I genuinely value your input.

Sincerely,
Mitt Romney

I really think he does care.

Even if he's got a lot on his plate right now.

Like when Trump took sides with Newt, and not Romney.

At least he understands where I come from on the issues.

I hope you do to.

Thank you.
