He is correct when he says his policies are an extension of his faith. 20 years of teachings by Jerimiah Wright !!
Jesus' teachings are admonitions to individuals and the church -- they are NOT a prescription for governmental policy!
Can you imagine if Mitt Romney had said that his policies are an "extension of his faith"? Holy cow, the libs would jumped all over it.
The double standards in politics are sometimes too much for me to handle.
Holy cow, they did regarding michell, rick, huckabee, and others. Free pass for the liberal left, he even admitted to praying about governing issues. Quick now, where is the seperation of church and state? We can't have christians praying and meeting in public school buildings, we must censor the president for praying in the white house, a public owned building. This might imply a religous position to young impressionable minds.
Hmmm. Just curious how long before Pagan chimes in with some comment about how it's not about religion. Or is. Hard to tell sometimes which side he's going to come down on. Or not.

Because that has to do with...
Obama...
his policies...
or his faith.
All mentioned, in this story.
I appreciate the attention Chris B. but I'm already seeing someone. :)
@USAlover, or how about "Sometimes, he said, pastors come to the Oval Officer to pray with him, for his family and for the country."
Imagine the liberal outcry if Romney had fellow Christians over for prayer or discussion.
Atter all, I have seen a picture of Obama and President Monson with others presenting Obama a genealogy. Would liberals make an outcry of such with Romney in office?
Eeeek! Is this really OK--a POTUS making his religious beliefs part of his public policies?
Is he going to get bashed and pilloried over this, the way Perry, Bachman, Romney, Santorum, and Palin would if they openly acknowledged that their religius convictions influence their political views? Or is mixing religion and politics a cardinal sin only if you invoke Deity or Scripture in ways that go against the politically correct conventional wisdom of the day?
Ok.

When you claim that 'the Liberals' are going to make an issue of Romney talking about his faith...
and it's only Republicans who do?
You show how out of touch you are, and loose even more credibility.
Because you are CAUGHT...

Billy Graham has shown up in just about every White House with about every President (sorry, y'all, can't do that POTUS thang, seems disrespectful)since I began reading newspapers and watching the news on TV--in grade school, early. Say, the Ike years? All those guys had some pastor or minister, somebody there. Any church, Catholic guys, Protestant guys, LDS guys...yup, LBJ did, you bet. Now, let's be grown-up boys and girls, can we? Jesus didn't preach to the choir, he preached to the people most in need of hearing His word. That means He spoke to the imperfect, the less than wonderful, those who needed to not cast stones, those who needed His teachings to learn how to return to the Father. Whatever party this, or any other President comes from, we should be glad he seeks wisdom and guidance and doesn't feel he is so smart that he can't benefit from wiser minds and hearts.
The left isn't bothered with Obama saying this because we know he's just pandering.
I cannot recall any reference in scripture to taxes required by government as a good thing, or something a disciple should aspire to. or that one should go the extra mile by paying extra taxes. Rather, Jesus said to give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's & give unto God that which is God's. We should obey the laws & pay our taxes. But all references to taxes & the burden of taxes in scripture is negative.
We have to pay tax so that government can serve its purpose of protecting our rights. Beyond that men try to capture power in government for their own purposes. I don't believe it is the purpose of government to raise some but stomp on others through any policy. Nor is it in governments interest to take from one & give to another. When did Christ do this?
Jesus taught to have faith in Him, & exercise that faith to develop & improve oneself & to serve & bless others. He never demanded or took from one to give to another.
Obama's understanding of Jesus' teachings are the false doctrines taught by Jeremiah Wright of social justice & other distorted doctrines that enslave & crush.
Woa..
If Romney had said this it would be all over for him!
This looks like Obama trying to court the evangelicals who have turned their back or Romney because he is LDS.
This is such a double stand and that it makes me sick!
it really does not matter what this president does you all well criticize him so I think most liberals figure why bother.
Omigosh, omigosh, I am in a tizzy, I am hyperventilating. Calm down! Calm down! Om my goodness, religion is in government! What is the world coming too?
Ok, I am calmed down now.
The scriptures speak a lot about our obligation to care for the poor. In the Old Testament Jehovah rails on Israel and Judah because they were not kind to strangers, because they oppressed the stranger, the widow and the orphan. Remember Isaiah 1, "Your sins are red like scarlet . . ." It isn't because they were doing the moral sins that conservatives rail against. They were oppressing the poor.
(I am not endorsing any political view, we need to care for the poor, competently.)
Years ago I voted for a measure to eliminate the sales tax on food. I was motivated by my religious views on the importance of caring for the poor. I also voted for a Democrat state senator because I didn't think that Repubs were properly concerned about the poor.
Two months after the election , the same state senator spoke at an abortion rally with the ACLU and said the Repubs were using religion to influence their position on abortion and that was bad.
So I stopped voting for the Dem state senator. Because, as he said, my motivation was bad.
The question regarding the poor is how is the best way to help them.
The term "enabling" may sometimes be applied to the US welfare policies and programs.
The LDS Church's welfare program is widely recognized as one that extends a helpful hand, but maintains the dignity and bootstrap ability of the recipient to not become dependent upon the help, and to move towards self reliance and independence.
The US welfare system does not do this, nor is it designed to. Rather, it is used to make many dependent upon the government, strengthening political parties that promise more and more.
Obama dispensed $500 million to Solyndra because of his political views and for political pay back. Government should not be using money to punish one group or individual and to help another.
Fairness, which is what Obama is campaigning upon, does not mean that everyone drives the same car and lives in the same type of home.
Fairness is when rights are protected equally. Opportunity is open to all.
Obama's plan and policies are not fair, but punishing and creating dependence, not independence and self-reliance.
"President Barack Obama said his Christian faith is a driving force behind his economic policies"
His church must be in A LOT of debt.
The President can't really call his teachings for 20 years, very Christian. He can say that on the tenets of Prayer Breakfast day but not the way his advisors talk about his policies. The battle on contraception against Christians is there now and during the breakfast. He would like to take away personal freedoms and have government control our lives by laws, regulations, edicts and other forms. He wants us to be energy conscious but prior to being elected, his private car was a large vehicle with a large engine. With a wife and two daughters, he could have used a Prius as a Senator, if he really Green.
All the rationalizing haters out there who attack the President when they think he is not religious enough, then attack him when he expresses his religious faith. It is pretty sad. Nothing will convince these two-faced critics who say they follow Christ, yet their hearts and actions are far from Him. I listened to the President and was inspired by his expression of faith. It is too bad some out there are so negative and cynical that they can't open their hearts top this, mocking from their great and spacious building.
By the way, Frank Rich has argued in a compelling article that Romney should stop suppressing who he is, particularly as to his church. I've argued this for a long time, that Romney needs to be true to himself and his beliefs. He has been trying to appease his right wing critics, and as a result, comes across as insincere and a man without a core foundation. I agree with Rich, and Romney's public ambivalence will prove the end of Romney's political career. You have to true to yourself and not run from who and what you are.
