So far the Republican candidates have been extremely vague about what parts of this "monstrous snowball" they are going to cut. If previous Republican administrations are any guide, the answer will be "not much".

I would be fine with many program cuts, but I don't believe any politician who says he's going to cut spending without telling us precisely what he means to cut. This criticism also applies to Democrats who say that they will raise taxes, just not your taxes.

Mr. Anderson,

Your vision is that of unbridled avarice, anarchy and "might makes right."

Your utopia exists; it's called Somalia.

I prefer civilization, a level playing field and an effective government working for the common good under the rule of law.

Relax. You can absolutely get stinking rich in this society - you just can't do it by abandoning your humanity.

I'm not worried about our Nation. We have a great President and he'll do a lot more in his next term. Go Obama!!!

So, Fred, by your standard, you can't vote Republican. Where does that leave you?

By the way, it will be interesting to see if the GOP allows the President to reduce government with his proposals to streamline the commerce agencies and the military. I'm betting they won't.

"...work hard, earn and to keep the rewards of their efforts. "

If only!

As it is, the "rewards of their efforts" are going to the CEO and investors instead of to those who put in the "effort".

Where is the morality in that?

Lest we forget police and jails are government as well. We build them more and jail more of our citizens than any other country. Big Government will be complimented with a police state before we know it.

"or is it to be a future of free economics and wealth creation where people are at liberty to work hard, earn and to keep the rewards of their efforts."

Yes, I remember when taxes were 39% when someone who earned millions a year by simply clipping cupons had to pay that same 39%, it was a terrible time..poverty on the rise, an economy losing 9% a quarter, people being thrown out of their houses on to the streets, people being denied the right to work hard becuse they lost their jobs and couldn't find other work..yes it was a terrible time....oh wait I've confused myself (silly old man)..those were the conditions after the tax rates were lowered to 35%, and coupon clippers were allowed to pay a mere 15%.

When taxes were 39% and everyone was on the hook for the same we had expanding prosperity. Millionaires were being created every day, and we balanced the federal budget..wow, go figure.

"...laying waste to an ever wider swath of human life each year."

Because the above is true today in these United States of America, I suggest people invest their money in cemetery land and funeral homes. This is obviously the great growth industry of today and tomorrow.

Since when did working for a business give you ownership in that business? People are paid to work. If they want ownership of a business, they will save some money and eventually build or buy a business of their own.

Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats have limited themselves to the authorized duties of Congress. The President pretends that neither the Congress nor the Court is part of the Federal Government. He tries to write his own legislation and then pass judgement on that legislation without the need for Congress or of the Court.

Social programs are not authorized by the Constitution. PERIOD. Any person in Congress who has ever voted for a social program MUST be removed from office. That blatant disregard of the Constitution has given us our deficit. Taxing people for Social Security, and then mixing that money with the General Fund has bankrupted Social Security.

That's what happens with government disregards the Constitution.

Thanks FDR. You will become known as the father of the collapse.

Tea Partiers....hahaha.

Look,
American government was tiny,
barely had 13 agriculturally based Colonies,
existed on a wild untamed Frontier on the OTHER side of the world back in 1776.

Were a person built his own house,
grew his own food,
dug his own well,
chopped his own wood,
and delivered their own babies,
protected his own farm,
and was 1-2 days ride to his closest neighbor.

Of COURSE our Government has had to grow -- America has grown over 100 times.

But - This IS America,
if you want to live in a cabin in Montana, or in the Western Utah Desert -- go right ahead, we are still free.

Just don't call us when you need help.
But rest assured our Military will be protecting you from terrorists in the Middle East.

Well I don't want to be killed by any giant snowball. what parts of the snowball would I cut? Roland asks.

I couldn't cut pieces out of a giant snowball personally but I do support mr paul who would cut five government bureaucracies for starters. he would cut down on the many un necessary military occupations and presences in so much of the world. that would do it and alleviate my fear of an early icy death. Second thought's. Romney leads big with Latinos vs. GOP, struggles against Obama. Beginning of the end?. With Mitt Romney's expected victory at tonights Florida primary, The New York Times asks a very good question: Will it mark the beginning of the end of the GOP nominating season, or will it merely signal the end of the beginning? On the one hand, Romney winning Florida would give him a victory in the largest, most diverse, and electorally important state so far. It would demonstrate his ability to bounce back from a major setback (the Jan. 21 South Carolina primary), as well as his organizational and financial strength. Ideological split over unemployment benefits: At first glance at two policy questions in the NBC/WSJ poll, there appears to be broad support for extending the payroll tax cut until the end of the year (55% good idea, 17% bad idea) and continuing to provide unemployment benefits for those out of work up to 99 weeks (52%/33%). But when you dig into the numbers, very different pictures emerge. For the payroll tax cut, support is broad and non-ideological. So we'll tax the rich and start expanding government, why cares.

What a rant. Personally, I don't feel any of my liberties at risk because of Obama. On the contrary, I'm better off than I was 4 years ago, I feel less threatened by the BushCheney warmongering machine, and I trust the gov't more. Ol' Cheney in charge was like having Voldemort run Hogwarts.

Frederick Anderson, do you really believe that our government was not created to govern? If so, why doe we have all those rules, laws and regulations? Would we have any rights or freedoms if we did not have the governmental rules, laws and regulations to secure them?

Do you really believe that given the liberty to work hard and keep the rewards of their efforts would provide the food for anyone else to eat?

Do you really believe that the government of today of should be the same size and nature as the government of hundreds of years ago. Do you really believe that the plots, plans, schemes. scams and size of the objects of government do not require that government be bigger than the size and complexity of the governed.

Do you really want to live in a jungle?

You can't spend you way out of debt. It is impossible for the government to do this and they don't want to do it either. Both parties have sold out to corporate interest who want all the power and the government is letting them have that power.
