What an exciting week ahead, National Signing Day and announcement of a new OC.
Maybe we can get Craig Ver Steeg back?
Gary Crowton! That is why the announcement won't come until Wednesday
afternoon, after the letters have been signed.
Awwwww come on Dirk! "Utes to hire offensive coordinator, replace Norm
Chow" Really? How 'bout some real news, like a short list names? Or maybe
even the name of the person with whom they're negotiating. We're out here
starving for red meat already!!!
It is not Crowton, he just got hired by a CFL team. I would love it to be
Sanford, but I think the bridge was burnt between him & Witt. Ver Steig,
please no. That guy couldn't come up with a successful short yatage run play to
save his life.
It must be a slow news day to run a story telling us that Utah is going to hire
an offensive coordinator and they will announce it sometime in the future!!
Well whoever it is I can't wait to hear how he is "the greatest ever"
or "an up and coming star" or whatever other overhyped stuff you utah
"fans" come up with. Afterall, and just like with the recruits,
whittingham is the "most awesomest judge of talent ever in football
history" and there is just no way he would ever hire a coach, or recruit a
kid, that could in anyway be anything other than a "future NFL guy".
Based on what utah "fans" have been telling us it won't surprise me
one bit when every single player on utah's current roster, and every single
recruit they are about to sign, and will sign for the next millenium, and every
single coach whittingham hires, will all be in the NFL and not just in the NFL,
they will be STARS! STARS!But of course despite turning every
recruit and coach into NFL HOFers whittingham himself will never leave utah
because of the love he has for it. utah is the pinnacle of football, college or
pro, and anyone associated with it in anyway is a for sure superstar.
drum and featherHow about Jack RileyDuckhunterDang, Dude you guys think of Bronco the same way and the players and the
program. Going for the y's second Idaho state championships this year you've
got to think this way.Have fun Wednesday and quit throwing your
sprite cup on the MC floor,
@ UteowlNo doubt; at least throw out some names. Although, I would
rather coach Whit take his time and make the right decision. Seems like it will
be a fairly easy offense to run next year though: give the ball to John White IV
and watch him run wild.
@MLHOr maybe Anae? That would hold true to form.
There are many great offensive coordinators out there available. It is simply a
matter of executing the plays and reading the defenses. The defense will be
solid again and we we have 18 starters returning next year. The passing game was
abysmal last year so it won't take much to improve. Our schedule is virtually
identical as last year. I expect USU to be good and I expect another win against
BYU although it won't be a blowout like last year. I just read that
Gary Crowton is no longer available. I'm sure Kyle has someone picked out
already and is simply negotiating at this point. I'm sure they will be good.
They have great talent returning on offense.
Interesting that Crowton declined the position with Utah for the CFL job.
"Sigh" Duckie is still here, putting off his promise not to post
on Utah articles for a year. I think he cut and paste this latest
rant from one of his old posts--when he used to be a y fan--on one of Dick
Harmon's many articles from last year that extolled Roscoe, Heaps, Doman, et al.
When you got it, reuse it, eh Duckie?
"Interesting that Crowton declined the position with Utah for the CFL
job."CFIT:He didn't have a choice--you can only
decline when an offer was made. If that had happened I think even the DNews
would have sniffed it out. Unless, of course, you have some late-breaking inside
scoop straight from Cougarville, Texas.
@ Duckie Sounds like someone is a little insecure with what is going on
with the Utes. Don't worry, your Skyline High boys Dupaix & Doman will come
up with good enough players ( that you will for sure know their families) to
beat Idaho & New Mexico State !
K-Whit is obviously waiting until after signing day to announce his new OC so he
doesn't frighten off his new QB recruits.
Utah kept they're offer to Crowton secret to avoid being embarrassed when he
turned down the Utes for the CFL.
The comments about Crowton are too funny. I'm sure he turned down an 'offer'
from Utah so he could go to Canada instead. That is really funny.I do
have one for Ducky - Rivals just announced that Hiva Lutui commited to the U
today. He was a de-commit from UCLA and his final 3 choices were Utah, USC, and
BYU (he also had offers from a lot of big name schools - Michigan, Iowa, TCU,
etc.). Nice addition to our future offensive line.
Great time to be a Ute.I'm excited to see how the recruiting class
shapes up. Right now Rivals has 11 schools from the PAC 12 ranked in the top
50 recruiting classes and Utah is right up there. Hopefully a few last minute
guys will go Utah's way, if so the Utes could end up with their highest ranked
recruiting class ever.Oh and I agree with duckboy - I'm sure there
will be some future NFL players in the mix. Maybe even some future hall of fame
players. The Utes did have 3 former players in the Pro Bowl this weekend. I
couldn't find any cougs on the list - the NFL must be "delusional" to
not include anyone from the y.I'm very interested to see who the
next OC is going to be as well. For the record Crowton sent his resume to Kyle
and I'm sure if there was an offer extended to him, we would have heard about
it. Kyle keeps these decisions pretty close to the vest but there are enough
sources around Crowton that something would have come out.Just a few
more days and all our questions will be answered.Go Utes
@ duckhunterYour rant shows a total obsession with Utah football.
Why are you worried? Bronco has assured all Cougar fans he has
never lost a recruit to Utah. Relax.......
@ CougfaninTxCrowton received a courtesy interview from Whit.
Nothing more nor less. Crowton never received an offer from the U. Might want
to check your sources.
golfrUteObviously, denial isn't just a river in Egypt. Utah fans
were ready to embrace Crowton the moment Whittingham announced his hiring; now
they're pretending that they never had any interest in him.Tell me,
why is Kyle wasting his time conducting "courtesy interviews"???Doesn't he have more important things to do?
@mussingaround:Utah "fans" were not ready to embrace
Crowton. We are ready to trust Whitt as always and most of us figured that
would NEVER include GC. BTW, no one knows what kind of "interview"
Crowton was given, if any. Crowton was the only one who was talking about it.
I'm glad he is safely tucked away in the great white north.I can't
understand why you are hanging out on big brother's blogs. You should be over
on the blew blogs gloating over who bYu offered their final scholarship to
(hint: his only other offer was a walk on at Oregon State).Go Utes!!
@ mussingaroundNone of the Ute fans I know had any Interest in
Crowton. Kyle and Gary have known each other for a long time. Gary was
interested in getting back to the state of Utah where he has a lot of family.
Courtesy interviews happen all the time in all kinds of businesses. Gary is a good guy and I wish him the best in the CFL.
Ducky,I didn't know you were still around. After we beat you 54-10,
you didn't show your face for awhile, and now your beloved Coug basketball team,
who you said would walk through the WCC got killed over the weekend. Yes, I
know, our basketball team is awful, but at least I and other Utes admit that.
You wouldn't even admit that when your team was 1-26.Only Chris B thinks that
every UTE are all going to be NFL stars, and that they are the best thing since
sliced bread. The Utes do have a lot of starters in the NFL, 3 of which who made
the pro bowl team. The Utes have 3 ex players starting for 1 team alone. There
are teams out there that dont have 3 players in the NFL. Whit does do a great
job judging talent on defense and gets them ready to play at the next level.
Will every player he coaches make it to the NFL, no, but he will try to and
usually does get the most out of them. This years class is shaping out to be the
best recruiting class in our history, but that does not mean that they will all
pan out or be NFL players. I would take Whits track record of judging players
and coaching them up and getting them to the NFL any day over Bronco. Also, who
besides maybe Chris B has ever said every coach that Whit hires is the best hire
in history, and will all be stars in the NFL for ever and ever? The Utes have a
good staff right now, and that is all that matters to me.
