14 points? Really? I wouldn't be surprised if Hearlihy is having 2nd thoughts after being on hand for that.

Thanks Duckhunter for your great observations. Funny that you haven't been on the byu forum. As for Hearlihy, number one, he's signed, number 2, he's smart enough to know exactly why the Ute's are struggling, and three, he'll be able to contribute immediately!

I was glad to see Utah come out with some heart in the second half.

If Mike Riley, Oregon States football coach viewed Utah as a "trap" game for the Beavers last fall, then USC was truly a trap game for this Utah basketball team. Hah... Can't wait to get this season over with and our newbies into the system....

Ute loss to USC - not unexpected.
BYU loss to St. Mary's - not unexpected.
BYU fans throw trash from the stands - why couldn't THAT game be on ESPN?
Jimmer's game winning attempt against the Jazz is an airball - priceless!

Utah's loss to USC really created a log jam for the all important 11th and 12th place in the conference standings. I thought U would pull off the win and prove once and for all that U are not the worst team in the PAC.

If Utah and USC both finish with two wins in the conference, how does the tie breaker work?

This was a game the Utes should have won. USC is horrible and they have a handful of injuries.

Even with our leading scorer getting dismissed from the team, I'm not sure how a D1 program can only score 14 points in the first half. All that being said, I hope this team can bounce back this week for a couple of home games. I'm hoping they will be able to make some adjustments and just keep trying to get better.

As for the coug fans on here still talking smack - you just got swept out of the NCAA tournament on your home court. I didnt see the game and I know Saint Mary's is good but it sounds like you may want to worry about your own team a little more. If it is true that fans were throwing garbage on the court, sounds pretty classy.

Go Utes - hang in there, net year will be better.

@cougiefaninTX....It works out the same as it does for your team. No conf title and no NCAA tourney.

If it wasn't for bad ref's though Utah would be undefeated in ranked in the top 3.....lol

That's too bad. This was supposed to be one of the "winnable" games, and they don't get USC at home this year.

Come on Utes. Time to get ready for the Ducks.

Nice try, but trying to equate a 20+ win season and at the very least an NIT bid with a 20+ loss season is laughable.

Its also funny how ALL the ute fans are over on the Y article. But of course there is absolutely nothing to see here is there?

Like I've said before, just fold up the tents and concede being the worst team in the Pac.

How many bounce backs(Qwester), resurgences, or chances to get "better" does this team get. The Y just lost to a legit top 25 team, what's your excuse? If this horrible team gets a pass EVERY game, for being horrible, then Byu definitely does for playing 10x better opponents and winning some and losing some.

Jack a something, I know delusion helps you Y fans cope with the harsh reality that your team plays in a conference 90 percent of the country has never heard of but your above comments take it to a new level. Utah may stink right now but at least my team is not in in the WCC. And in the end, your team won't be in the NCAA Tourney either so save us all the bluster.

@jark

I don't make excuses for this Utah team. Every Utah fan out there knew that this season was going to be a struggle at best. I simply hope they can make improvement. At times they have shown they have and at times they have taken steps backwards. That is what they did against USC.

Kind of funny that you complain about Ute fans posting on y articles yet you post on this one twice.

Utah doesn't get a pass this season, its just that our expectations are realistic for this team. I'm not sure with what that has to do with your teams excuse on why they lost. Maybe it's safe to say that coug fans expectations of their team aren't realistic.

It's laughable how often you Utah fans are forced to hide your sorry basketball team behind the skirts of your conference because you're too embarrassed to actually talk about your team.

The truth is, Utah is an even worse team in the PAC 12 than they were in the MWC, yet you've deluded yourself into believing that being in a "better" conference, makes U a better team.

Here's a clue from Pomeroy/Sagarin:

#35/#32 BYU - Top 10% - 17th in scoring
#313/#299 Utah - Bottom 10% - 338th in scoring

Every conference has its perennial conference contenders (see BYU) and perennial conference bottom dwellers (see Utah).

What exactly are U building? Krystko went out and grabbed a bunch of JC transfers just so he'd have enough players to field a team. Most of the players who are playing for Utah this year are so lacking in talent that they won't even be starters next season, so what difference does it make if they occassionally show some slight improvement?

you are so predictable, just like your team.

I do find it interesting that until they kicked the one kid off the team almost none of the underclassmen were playing much. That is not a good sign. They are awful anyway so why not play those kids? Unless of course those kids aren't any good in which case why bother playing them?
