"Showing restraint and value?"
Government and the president need to exemplify this statement. Solyndra, vacations, sending American money to other countries, and useless stimulus packages don't cut it.
How can anyone respect political statements, when there's no example.

This will require a HUGE culture change in academics! University leaders are used to flying first class to several meetings/discussions each year. Faculty have an open checkbook for what they want to attend, including gatherings outside of the U.S.
This same culture change will have to happen in our government as well.
