Nice to see people remember that where you go to school has nothing to do with deciding if you represent the church or not or whether you have a responsibility to serve. Cougar, ute, aggie, tar heel, blue devil; if you are a member of the church you represent the church. Thanks for being good examples guys !
Ditto there ted. Great examples for my boys. If they spend four years wearing red, blue, or anything else that's great. But they better spend two years in white.
Nice article. I didn't knoe much about these guys. Well researched and informative. I enjoyed the Quin Snyder ans Shane Battier references. Good job.
Great article. Some LDS athletes don't choose to attend BYU and that can be great for them. These two athletes show how that decision can help a person grow stronger in the gospel while being the "light on the hill". Having lived outside Utah for quite a few years, I have seen my LDS kids have many of the same types of experiences. The other kids that knew they were LDS acted different...more respectful, when they were around.
Fantastic article Trent! I love these stories about LDS athletes who play somewhere other than BYU or Utah. Although I would love to see them in BYU blue it is great that they get tp play for such storied programs and be an example of the LDS faith! Also loved the story about Battier!
You know I still dislike Duke more than most things but when you read how they handle something like this you can find a little compassion for them- just a little- not much
Did Mr. Christensen forget that a fellow member of the LDS church preceded him at Duke in the form of Chris Burgess? BYU fans will no doubt remember that name. Burgess did not serve a mission, which is probably why the author of this piece did not include him.
I would have preferred this article much more if it were just about Stilman White, considering he is the current scholar athlete in the ACC.
Excellent article. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I certainly remember Matt Christensen at Duke, but found out in this article that Clayton Christensen is his father. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree with Matt! Wow.
RE: MESQOUTE: "Did Mr. Christensen forget that a fellow member of the LDS church preceded him at Duke in the form of Chris Burgess?" Matt's quoted in the article as "I THINK ..." Furthermore, Matt played there 1995-96 and then served his mission before returning to play in 1999. Burgess played 1997-98 before transferring to Utah. I'm sure Utes Fans will remember Burgess because of his stellar career at Utah .... or not. So at the time Christensen started at Duke he was the first member of the church to play at Duke. So, the author did not include that because Burgess had zero relevance to the article.
I would prefer to see LDS kids go to schools other than byu. I think it's more important for them to be around kids that don't know about the LDS faith so they can be an example to the kids they go to school with.
Good job Tillman on going to your dream school. Sounds like you are doing a great job representing the LDS church.
Awesome story.
2 members in 20 years and both little used scrubs, we are reaching a little aren't we?

"both little used scrubs".
Aren't you reaching a little to find fault in this article? First of all, Christensen may not have had flashy career stats at Duke but since he was honored as a Duke player exemplifying excellence, he obviously had an impact on the program. Second, Stilman is a true freshman. They don't sound like a couple of scrubs to me.
Great article, great examples. Thanks!
Mormons that go to places other than BYU can do so much good! When I saw that article a few months ago about how many returned missionaries there were on BYU's football team, I cringed. What a waste of what could be LDS influence!
Good for these guys. I had to laugh seeing the comments from Ute fans how much they like to see LDS players play for someone besides BYU. Well, duh! Of course they don't want them to go to BYU. Guess what, I am glad to see LDS athletes play for anyone but the U!
I like that this story failed to mention that time when Matt Christensen, as a player for Duke, had to write a letter of apology to the NCAA for almost punching an official in 2002 after a tournament loss to Indiana. So yeah, he may be LDS, but he still went to Duke.
