im curious on the girl side how these are really chosen.... where is Morrison from Alta?? Williams from Syracuse?? Yack from Bingham?? Ive never heard about some of these girls?? Is there a commitee who chooses them? I find it odd that these girls are not there.... Anyone know how they are really chosen??

one only has to go look at the stats on this newspaper site and select statewide and look at the list of top scorers in the state and ask why there not on the list. Look at the girls with D1 scholarships and Martin is the only one on the list. Just where did this list come from?

Morrison from Alta is not on this list? Whatever? LOL

The answer is.......and having been involved in it before, the coaches are given the opportunity to nominate their players for this game. If a player is not on the list it is because the coach or the A.D. did not fillout the paperwork for them to be involved. Yes, it is too bad that some very good players are left out of this because of that but that is how it goes down.

This is the weirdest list I've ever seen. Most of these kids aren't even the leading scorers on their teams. One kid is averaging 8 pts!

This list means nothing.

Girls D-1 scholarships already accepted for Ramos, Morrison, Askew, Williams. Yack is committed to slcc i believe. Who created this list? My sources tell me its a club coach that has makes the decision and that is not right.

Don't get to worried these are only nominations. Loveridge is the only one with a chance of being selected for the team.

Looks like some coaches need to learn what ALL AMERICAN means. You said it Bear Loveridge is all i see on the list for boys.

I'm hearing that not every coach in the state gets to put in nominations... that people that are not even high school coaches or have anything to do with highschool coaches are the one who nominate...And is it a little convient that Morrison, Williams (who put up 35 the other night) Askew, Ramos are on the Flight Club and the besides Martin the rest of the girls Play for Salt Lake Metro??? Girls basketball doesn't get the respect it deserves any way, and now this just makes it easy for someone to still disrespect girls basketball.

Morrison and Martin are the only legit All American nominees from the lasies side. Loverage from the oiys side is the only player on the boys side that is a legit nominee. I predict no one from Utah will be named to wither teame

This list is from Dave hammer of metro who also is the person that selects them. Magic happens I would say that with 10 D1 offers Askew is a legit All American nominees. The flight girls are not on the list except martin.

Here we go again with the rumor mill and lack of facts by posters that hide behind their screen names. If you actually read the article it tells you who can nominate the players. HS coaches/athletic directors/HS principals. Also the national McDonald's voting committee can nominate players. Don't believe me goggle search McDonald's all american team selection process.

Hoops 24/7 everything you claim is just flat made up. Every coach CAN nominate their players and have always been able to do that. If a player isn't on the list then the high school didn't bother to nominate them.

In prior years McDonald's had a state representative that could also nominate players. I filled that role for several years after viewing a list similar to this one that did not include Mr. Basketball Tai Wesley. This year McDonald's decided not to have state representatives leaving only the high schools to nominate players.

Bottom line is if a player is there their coach nominated them if not they chose not to.

Every year I am surprised at the negative comments on this blog. I am Brittney's grama and have watched her practice basketball for years. On and off season she is on the court. She has worked very hard and deserves this nomination. She has been a great ball player and beyond that she has always shown respect for the teams she plays with and her coaches. She shows amazing sportsmanship. If you watch her you will notice she plays with a smile on her face. She loves this game. I always tell her not to read these comments. Maybe I should take my own advice. Congratulations Brittney. Your hard work has paid off for you. Congratulations to all of these kids that make watching girls basketball so much fun. Go Lady Titans.

They should let gramas nominate. Then no one would be left off.

@ Dave Hammer..... I said that I "heard" these things not that I said they were true. I just find it hard to believe that Coach Rasmussen wouldn't nominate Summer Yack, or Deb Bennett wouldn't nominate Askew, or the Alta coach wouldn't nominate Morrison, ETC ETC ETC.... Its a fair question. Just doesnt seem like those coaches would let a opputunity like this pass them up.

@gramadeb....Britney deserves this honor. She's a great player. I don't think anyone is saying she doesn't deserve it. I think it's some of the players that DIDN't get nominated that people are upset about. I wish Britney all the success!

I certainly didn't get a vote. Lots of these girls playing basketball in this state call me grama and they're not on this list.
I too feel like some of the best players in this game were left off of this list but that does not make Brittney's addition to it any less valuable. She wasn't added because of one great game or one amazing shot. She has worked endlessly for years and if you have watched her improve year after year I don't think anyone would feel right taking this honor from her or making her feel like she doesn't deserve it. Once again we want Brittney to know just how proud we are of her accomplishments. Everyone that knows her personally is celebrating with her.

Hoops 24/7 is right on! I 'heard' the same thing, and I am not sure the high school coaches are aware that its their duty or obligation to nominate. I bet if they did there would be kids nominated up and down the state by coaches trying to do right by their players. I cannot imagine them letting the opportunity to honor their own kids be passed by.

Personal opinion boys nominee: Jordan Loveridge, girls nominee: Brittney Martin --go titans!

I just talked to my friend who is a coach of one of the players on the list - and he confirmed to me that he did in fact nominate his player. Dave Hammer is correct, if the high school coach did not take the time to nominate his/her player, then he/she is not on the list. So if you have a complaint about the process, look no further than your own school's coach for not taking a few minutes of time to get their player recognized.

Am I the only one who read the article? Wasn't the Martin girl listed as nominated? I don't understand the other players not on there but Martin was nominated????

SportsLover24

Brittney Martin, Makenlee Williams, and Morrison shouldn't just be nominations... They should all be on chosen for sure! They're all on a whole different level than their competition and truly can succeed at the next level. Congrats to all the nominations and sorry to all the players that SHOULD HAVE been nominated...
