Millions of dollars get spent in Iowa in the effort to win the caucus vote. Normally, the parties handle the job of counting things up (the state itself does NOT have a role) and then it's on to the next state the next day. But the Iowa GOP, whom the candidates have no choice but to trust, fouled up the caucus badly this time. They not only announced a winner BEFORE any certified vote, but LOST the results from EIGHT precincts. The fiasco was complete when the Party finally threw up its hands in apathy, declaring that it was officially a "tie" between Romney and Santorum. Maybe from now on the state GOP should reward CASH to the people responsible for getting results delivered accurately and ON TIME. But the whole performance in 2012 can be summed up in two words - stunning incompetence.
