This time we should believe Utah's weather Guru's, WHY? I grew up in the great lakes region of Western NY where Dan Pope himself once told me "That is about the toughest place in the United States to call an accurate weather forecast, yet I tell you, they were FAR more accurate than anyone here ever thought of being! Utah weather Witches are THE WORST Weather Predictors I have ever run across. I hope they are right!

I agree that the weather folks have a hard time getting storms right around here. Too many variables I suppose. I studied meteorology in college and forecasting is indeed very complex. Good forecasting is more of an art than a science. The methods are there but it takes years of experience and quite a bit of luck to get forecasts consistently right.

Every winter storm I've seen over the past few years has either been underforecast or overforecast. They call for a foot of snow and we get an inch... call for an inch of snow and we get a foot. This incoming storm could be a major blizzard... on the other hand the temperature could be just a few degrees too warm and all we'll get is rain. Just have to wait and see what develops.

I'm a meteorologist and grew up in Utah. The weather in Utah is hard to predict but part of the problem is the the media does not do a good job of getting the best information out to the public. Some of the best forecasts and weather information come from the local national weather service office in Salt Lake City which you can find on the web.

It is too bad I can't post a few links for you all to look at, you would be surprised of some of the detailed forecast models these days that do a good job of forecasting. The local national weather service office does a good job of forecasting but their forecasts can seem too general since they have to cover such a large area. If you look me up I can point you to some detailed forecasts for your specific location that will give you more precise snow totals and what time the snow will start/end.

I'm still proud to say "I survived the Blizzard of 2010"

They've already revised the forecast for the valley down to 1-3 inches. I'll wager we won't get that. It's nearly 50 degrees out, far too warm for snow, and it is going to be above freezing all night.

This is going to be a "significant" bunch of showers... that's all.
