Craig Cusick and Jimmer Fredette?
Hmmm.
I like Craig's steady play and think he has played well and been a major bench contributor. Maybe compare Craig to Jimmer's freshman year.
The Cougars need to get healthy! Glad the bench is filled with solid players. I'd like to see them play more minutes -- but not because guys are hurt.
I wish Rose had substituted much earlier in the game at San Diego. They're playing 4 games in a week, and were 20 points ahead. I don't understand why they didn't put the subs in earlier. Now they're a bit banged up and still have a couple of games yet this week. Makes no sense to me. They could have easily played the subs with at least 5 or more minutes remaining and been in no danger of losing.
I think everyone but Gurney would agree that the Cusick is nothing like Jimmer and there should be no comparison. Carlino's game gives more glimpses of Jimmer than Cusick.
But I do like how Cusick plays. He does not create shots for himself, but he can hit 'em when he's open. He needs to be set, and doesn't shoot on the run. He has a rather slow release, but if nobody is guarding him, he doesn't need a quick release. 90% behind the arc is impressive in WCC play.
Speaking of behind the arc, Austin's shooting percentage behind the arc is the same as his free throw percentage. Someone who can hit 46% behind the arc while being guarded should be able to shoot better than 46% from 15 feet with no one to contest the shot. Can someone work with him on his free throws? He has a nice delivery and should be able to make over 60%.
Great news that Rogers will only miss a game or two. One commenter wrote that he was out for the season. It would be great to get him back for the Va Tech, St Marys, Gonzaga games next week.
As someone who has had a lot of nose injuries and surgeries from basketball, I have even more admiration for how Hartsock continues to deliver after learning about his "issues". A bad nose injury can affect everything you do on the court. You're more tentative running, jumping, crashing boards. You can't breathe the same, your eyes water, your teeth hurt, etc, etc, etc. Oh, and you can't sleep, and the lack of sleep also affects all of the above. Hartsock is the man, well one of the men! This whole team is pretty fun to watch.
Cusick comparable to Jimmer?? Haha. That's a funny joke... i hope. Anyways, he's doing better as a bench player. Hopefully he keeps improving.
What a nice luxury to have depth on the bench. It is to bad that Rogers appears to be some what fragile physically. All in all the team seems to finding its stride. I hope they maintain this growth spurt and can peak right around tourney time.
I watched Jimmer. I knew Jimmer. Cusick is no Jimmer.
One should make note on how Jimmer is doing in the NBA.........not too good!
One should make note that most rookies struggle in their first year in the NBA. Jimmer didn't exactly set the world on fire during his Freshman year at BYU, but by his Senior year, Jimmer was the concensus National Player of the Year.
Honor Code:
Would you kindly point out to the group how any of your beloved Aggies are doing in the NBA?
Wait...what's that? There aren't any? Hmmm. That's too bad.
Thank you for promoting the Honor Code. It's important to live with honor.
However, one should make note on how HC is doing with her analysis......not too good!
I'm glad that most fans have the sense to know that this article comparing Jimmer to Cusick is completely ridiculous. Jimmer was a once in a generation player folks - don't put that kind of comparison on anyone - let alone a back up point guard.
Don't write Jimmer off because he is averaging 7.5 ppg through the first 14 games of his career (without a proper training camp). That is decent for most NBA rookies. He'll be a solid pro. Go back and look at how John Stockton started his career (not saying Jimmer is Stockton at all) or Steve Nash (again, not saying Jimmer is Steve Nash) -- most rookies - especially guards have a breaking in period in the NBA. The one thing that is really concerning is Jimmer's field goal percentage - for a shooter - sub 35% is not going to cut it.
This team is fun to watch and 4 games in about 7 1/2 days are too much for starters. I agreed with SkookumDon that Dave Rose need to sub more before facing those next three important games. No wonder Hoah Hartstud stats were so bad against SD game, and that last year game against ASU really took him out for two or three games was scary.
While I agree with all other cougar fans that Cusick is no Jimmer, he has been a pleasant surprise this season. It is true that he cannot create his own shot... but we don't want him doing that anyway. In fact, it would be really nice if Carlino followed suit and stopped trying to be Jimmer.
If the guards can continue as they have started doing these last few games and adopt an inside-out approach we will be much better off. With two good-to-great big men and another good big in reserve we should be banging all of the first half (or until the opposing bigs all foul out, whichever comes first). That will allow for the more of the wide open threes that are Cusick's current bread and butter.
I love the development that has already taken place this season and look forward to continued improvement. Go Cougs!
I think Cusick feels a good role as a reliable scorer off the bench. Cusick should not be compared to Jimmer as his role is much different. Why would Honor Code bash Jimmer. Jimmer is actually doing quite well and was listed as one of the top rookies so far in the NBA Season. Jimmer's shooting has not been up to his normal, but he brings more to the game than what most experts thought he could. Jimmer has started a few games and been instrumental in a couple of come backs. Bill Reilly actually wrote a specific article appoligizing to Jimmer for bashing him after the draft. So Honor Code, as always, you have no clue.
Oh please people he wasn't really trying to compare him to the Jimmer. He was just saying how great Cusick has been shooting.
Do you people really think the writer thinks Cusick is the next Jimmer?
Seriously?
Cusick is doing a great job along with Carlino. To think we will be getting another Emery and Haws not to mention the RM Haws means the future is BRIGHT! Just look how many freshmen are getting playing time this year. A great recruiting class by a great coach.
Added bonus --- You can see EVERY game on tv if you can't make it the MC.
Great time to be a Cougar!
Whoa, whoa, whoa...2nd coming of JIMMER FREDETTE?!?!?! Cusick may have hit a few 3-pointers, but let's get real, Brandon Gurney!
