"Campaign officials tell The Associated Press Huntsman will endorse Mitt Romney at an event in South Carolina on Monday morning."

Well this is awkward.

This is sad news for Republicans who would like to elect a moderate Republican candidate who will work with the members of the Democratic party to have Congress solve the nation's properties instead of drawing a line in the sand as exteme Democrats also do.

He never had a chance. Why did it take him so long to figure that out?

He was the only one with an ounce of good sense. But now maybe we can hope he will return home to run for Senate and replace Hatch. A term in the Senate might be good stepping-stone toward the White House later. I could maybe even vote for him -- even if he is a Republican.

Although my first choice for Utah Senator would still be Pete Ashdown.

Regardless of what you think about his politics, this is a Class Act from our former Governor. Utah should be proud of him.

The one candidate who could have beaten Obama - - rejected because he wasn't foaming-at-the-mouth enough to suit the "base."

Huntsman is rational, evidence-based, and pragmatic. He established a stellar record as Utah's governor, and is an effective statesman who has earned international respect.

Unlike Romney, he's also a very likable guy. He's genuine.

But in today's surreal landscape of political make-believe, it is those exact qualities that make him unpopular with GOP leaders who'd rather see America burn than tolerate Obama in the White House.

Huntsman would have attracted half the votes of the moderates who will now vote for Obama, while alienating only about 10% of the fringe Christian evangelicals. You don't need the fringe 10% to win an election; but you must have the 50% of folks who are the nation's moderate center.

Romney will alienate half of the Christian right and 2/3 of the moderate middle.

We'll get Obama for four more years - you can count on it.

Thank you, Governor Huntsman, for running an honorable campaign, and promoting ideas that need to be heard.

Although this round is not your time, you are young, and you have made your name known. Perhaps the seeds you have planted in this campaign can come to fruition after then-President Romney's successful second term ends!

I hope this will be good in regard to having more Republicans working together. I wish Newt would bow out.

What a shame. Mr. Huntsman was an incredible candidate, and I would have liked to see more of him in the forthcoming campaigns. I hope that the winning Republican nominee will make use of Huntsman's talents when that individual wins the 2012 presidential election.

Jon Huntsman Jr is far too intelligent and has way too much common sense to win the Republican nomination. A party full of birthers, death panels, Sarah Palans, tea partiers, hill billies, is far beneath him. Run an independant campaign,Jon, I will vote for you.

Honorable campaign? Well he has done the right thing. I suppose the msm will be in mourning tomorrow.

Come and enter the Senate race, I think Huntsman would make a superb senator in place of Hatch.

Game over. Romney will be the nominee.

Senate? Come do another round as Governor! The GOP puts forward poor candidates every 4 years--start in 1988 and move to the present gaggle--and really none of them have been what we want or need. This is Post-Ronald Reagan Traumatic Stress Syndrome. As soon as that is accepted, maybe there will be some effort at cultivating viable candidates. Might be wise in light of the past 5 elections. The reality for many Republicans (and Democrats) in Utah is that most are moderate in their view. No one will come out and say it, but what we are tired of is the sharpness of the partisanship--not the partisanship itself; we understand that is bound to happen. The sharpness of it, however, clouds needed debate and work being done on behalf of the nation, the entire nation. When our politicians work only to block the opposing party's game plan, we end up with what we have largely had since 1988. As long as one-upping is the only aim of elected officials squat gets accomplished. And we the people get 4 more years of nothing much. Just my 2 cents.

There would be way way too many jokes if Romney asked him to be his running mate. Besides he already has Christie running around being his lap dog.

Why do Democrats/Liberals say that Huntsman is a "moderate"? Because he was a global warming "true believer"? Huntsman was as conservative as any of the Republican candidates- he was right there with Ron Paul when it came to getting the US out of foreign engagements militarily.
Unfortunately, he had an odd campaign strategy of insulting the primary voters who he expected to nominate him. So we're neanderthals because we don't believe in evolution and we recognize that the whole "climate change" agenda is simply the red tide of communism on the rise again? Sorry John but we're not that stupid and we don't like being insulted like that. Yes, we're all impressed by your fluency in Chinese but Americans aren't real crazy about China right now.
Honestly, I think the man had a good and timely message but he didn't really come off real well presenting it.

Well, it looks like I either have to vote for Obama or not vote at all now.

"Religion, too, is a factor, with evangelical voters rejecting Mormons as fellow Christians."

Show me an "evangelical" with the family and integrity of Jon Huntsman, and I will show you a true Christian. And these same people would vote for Gingrich before they would vote for Huntsman, or Romney for that matter. You all know what I'm talking about. (Need to be careful or DN will deny the comment).

I thought Huntsman along with Romney were head and shoulders over their peers in Huckabee's forum last night in SC. The fact Huntsman will now endorse Romney is nothing but class - and should also be a good lesson for a lot of (you) Romney pundits.

No great loss. Huntsman pretended to be a conservative to get elected here in Utah, but at heart is more of a liberal, seduced by the manmade climate change hysteria, eager to grow government and always ready to indulge his ego which far exceeds his accomplishments.

He was a good Ambassador, but would have been a disaster as President.

Let him run as a Democrat, which is more to his true inclination.

His endorsement of Romney made me even more ill at ease with Romney.

Quoting you on that, I think your wrong, but hey Ron Paul is the only one willing to do what's necessary to save the USA as the founders and patriots intended it.
